Week in Review (9.20 – 9.24)– Parties, Places, and Happenings

Swarovski Element '22 Ways to Say Black' Event

Monday (20th) – I attended the Swarovski Elements ‘22 Ways to Say Black’ charity auction. Hosted at Phillips de Pury, I registered for a paddle and partook in the auction, although I came home empty handed.  The event raised over $100,000 to benefit breast cancer research. Guests in attendance included Halle Berry, Julianna Margulies, and Sofia Vergara.

Welcome to Coterie

Tuesday (21st) – The first day of the Fashion Coterie Sole Commerce show at Jacob Javitt center! I spent the day at the Chocolat Blu booth lusting over these shoes! I have to wait til Spring 2011 to add them to my collection. That should give me enough time to decide which color I want.

Chocolat blu Dallas Shoe ($120). Launches Spring 2011

That evening I took my first Pole Dancing class (Intro to Pole Dancing, taught by Bonnie Fischer) at NY Pole. I’m not one for working out (I try, I just get bored), and I’m incredibly shy, so walking into the small studio, I was a little nervous. However, my friend and I had a blast! It was so fun, and we both felt so comfortable that it wasn’t scary at all. It was such a great workout and the time flew by. I even learned a thing or two;)

My new Hermes Silk Jersey Scarf (36"x36")

Wednesday (22nd) – I was a bad girl and joined my cousin at the Hermes sample sale.  Meet my new friend (above). Love my scarf, but I’m officially cut off.

Lara & Erika at the Casio Baby-G & Hellz Release Party

That evening the lovely Erika (from Shoes, Shirts, and Other Sh!t) and I attended the Baby-G & Hellz Collaboration Release Party featuring DJ Elle at 1Oak. Creating two signature watches, L.A. based designer Hellz and Casio Baby-G watches featured 80’s pop fashion homage to the NYC streets. What do you think of them? Better than the poor excuse of a drink 1Oak served up? Agreed. What can I say 1Oak if you’re not offering an open bar and are going to charge $18 a drink, put some alcohol in it.

Thursday (23rd) – Back to the Coterie show, this time to hang out with former Project Runway contestant, Daniel Feld and model his new line, Kymerah. I WANT IT ALL! I will post more about the line shortly.

Odd Molly Spring 2011 Collection

Odd Molly makes me happy. There’s something about the mix of knits and silk with bursts of color and femininity that just makes me want to chuck my cell phone in a lake and spend the day out in a field picking daisies. They have this boho-hippy chic way of mixing a bunch of otherwise statement pieces together that flows whether the items are worn together or separately. And with braids (and ribbon) in their hair to models strutted down the runway at Lincoln Center to a live performance by Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl (I die, especially since my last encounter with Sean involved him spilling his drink on me—I was honored).

Not to deviate from the clothes or makeup, but I have to give a special shout out to one of the gift bag items, Bridgewater Candle Company in Bouquet of Roses ($13). I’ve been

Lorick Spring 2011 Collection

As a Gossip Girl fan, I’ve been drooling over the designs of  Eleanor Waldorf since Season 1. However it wasn’t until Season 2 that I learned Abigail Lorick was the real-life ghost designer behind the character’s collection; so imagine my excitement to receive an invitation to attend her Spring 2011 collection.

Hosted at Philip Pelusi’s Tella Design Studio in the meatpacking district, Lorick previewed her collection during NY Fashion week. Titled Linear Dawn and inspired by painter Agnes Martin, it was a very whimsical collection with asubtle palette of muted purples and blues. The clothes we’re effortlessly chic with fabrications of organza ageorgette and chiffon. It was cohesive and yet each piece was very unique, down to the styling.  With neutral makeup and rosy cheeks, some model wore their hair down with hats, while others in a low bun.

While backstage I noticed all the model’s shoes we’re wrapped in nylons. I assumed that was some new, clever way of

GANT by Michael Bastian Spring 2011 Collection

Last fall, Michael Bastian designed his first menswear collection for GANT. This season for his Spring 2011 presentation, the classic American heritage brand launched it’s first womenswear collection.

Can I take a moment to just say WOW? When I walked into the presentation held at Sir Stage 37 during NY Fashion Week, I was agape by the world I had entered.  Okay it was just a room, but It felt like I was on a movie set from a different era and was struck by how visually stunning the models, the makeup, the sets and of course the clothes were. Inspired by the many husbands of Marilyn Monroe –mainly Joe DiMaggio and Arthur Miller, the show merged the classic sporty man with a classic Hollywood beauty.

Max Delorme, Key Makeup Artist for TEMPTU created the makeup looks for the show. Although Temptu is no stranger to photo shoots or television sets, It never ceases to amaze me the level of precision and perfection that can be achieved using an airbrush.

Inspired by “old Hollywood Glamour”, Delorme wanted to create a modern 50s look. How did he do it? By giving the models very soft, perfect skin with strong, sharp eyebrow and lip. “I used white inside the eyes to make them look bigger without mascara, and no blush. And two different looks for the lips; coral for a cute, softer look and red

Raul Penaranda S/S 2011 Ready-to-Wear Collection

With Designer Raul Penaranda

Raul Penaranda debuted his premiere collection at the Metropolitan Pavilion last week during NY Fashion Week. The inspiration for his Spring/Summer 2011 show was ‘Uptown meets Williamsburg’ mixing together refined dresses with vibrant colors and metallics.

Even before the models took the stage, I was very taken aback by the man behind his namesake label. In his program to the audience he wrote a letter saying:

“I would like to thank you for attending the launch of my first collection, a day where my dreams become a reality. A journey full of challenges and lessons, with no regrets. As a token of my gratitude, I would like to share a piece of my collection with you. [he inserted a bottle with a piece of fabric from the collection in all the gift bags] This bottle will serve as a reminder that nothing is impossible and miracles take a little bit longer. Dream, Vision, Reality”.

What a lovely (and inspirational) gift! That journey and joy radiated through the runway by both the clothing and the models, and ultimately the grand applause by the audience when Penaranda took the stage.

Pretty Connected caught up with the Raul Penaranda to a get the inside scoop on the collection:

Why Uptown Meets Williamsburg?

“Uptown meets Williamsburg is about two opposite elements that collide and create an emotion, it’s about mixing unexpected materials to create an element of surprise and interest. It’s about vulnerability is about imperfect beauty.”

What’s next for you?

“Working on my Fall collection and continue working hard to improve/evolve the product and reinforce the brand identity ‘DREAMS-VISION-REALITY’. As I mentioned in the past for me there is nothing impossible and miracles take a little bit longer. When fear is out of the equation there is nothing but success”.

Happy 1-Year Anniversary SPiN New York!

By now some of my avid readers have probably noticed I have thing for ping pong. Unlike most table tennis players, the obsession doesn’t come from a table in my basement or game room in my college dorm, but from a few friends.

With SPiN Owners Franck Raharinosy and Jonathan Bricklin at SPiN Hollywood Opening Party

Once upon a time these friends, filmmakers Jonathan Bricklin, Franck Raharinosy and Bill Mack all lived together in fabulous loft in TriBeCa and bought a ping pong table. They started playing, didn’t stop, friends would come over, more tables we’re bought, more friends would come over and eventually they started throwing a weekly party/tournaments named Naked Ping Pong. While no one was actually naked, the parties attracted everyone and anyone from  jocks to hipsters to nerds, artists to celebrities and everything in between; creating a diverse environment that was effortlessly fun. In those days I didn’t play, but I wasn’t the only one, and it didn’t matter. The mix of great people and music in such a social atmosphere made it still one rockin’ party.

With all the press they we’re receiving and popularity of the parties they decided to take their idea to the next level. Together with investors Susan Sarandon and Andrew Gordon they opened SPiN New York; a 13,000 square foot table-tennis social club complete with a gourmet restaurant, Ducks Eatery and bar.

Adrienne Zernich Spring 2011 Collection

Adrienne Zernich with one of her models

A pastel palette of fitted bodices with flirty, flowing skirts graced the runway with elements of lace and ruffles as Adriene Zernich debuted her premiere collection at the National Arts Club. “Romantic Garden Party” was the theme of Adriene Zernich Spring 2011 line inspired by

It’s been a long week, I’m burnt out. How about you? After being on planes all summer and then diving into a wonderful week in New York for fashion shows, presentations and parties I’m inspired! And slightly sleep deprived. While I should be spending this weekend writing, writing, writing (and I will!), I need some physical activity to jump start my endorphins up that doesn’t involve running around the city in my Mui Mui’s.

Backstage at Marc Jacobs SS2011 Show

NARS Cosmetics and Redken 5th Avenue joined forced to create the makeup and hair look for Marc Jacobs RTW Spripg 2011 fashion show.

LEAD MAKEUP ARTIST: François Nars, Founder & Creative Director of NARS Cosmetics
TREND: Glossy green eyes & deep matte lips

LOOK & INSPIRATION: “The look is very reminiscent of Angelica Houston in the 70s-the bleached brows and the deep eyes,” said François Nars. “I wanted them to look like iconic models from the 70s with a modern approach. Marc had images of what he wanted the makeup to look like – mimicking the colors of the clothing but not matching exactly.”
