John Frieda Rethinks At Home Hair Color

As a beauty blogger, hair color is that one category of hair that still baffles me. Especially since I’m neither a brunette or blonde (or red head for that matter) but with black hair I don’t have as many options but I still find it fascinating the lengths and hours spent by people have to maintain their hair color. And if there’s one major hair trend we’re seeing right now is taking salon services at home. Or at least trying to cut down the visits in between those salon visits. John Frieda has always been an innovator in the category and are pushing the boundaries even further with their “Rethink Everything Rethink Color” campaign.

Best Color Treated Shampoo & Conditioners

Even as a natural blonde, bi-monthly coloring is a must for my ashy roots. After my regular visits to the Serge Normant at John Frieda Salon in Chelsea, is top of mind. When you spend the money and time on color treatments, maintaining that long-lasting vibrancy is a priority. With over thirteen years of color care product testing under my belt, I can recommend these products with confidence!

John Frieda A Girl's Got To Be Free

We’re all guilty of it – imprisoning our unruly locks in a bun, ponytail, or something that resembles both.  Whatever the excuse – time crunch, pure laziness or just lack of know-how, we have been tying up and holding back the best of our selves.

If you followed Fashion Week as closely as we did, you will distinctly remember the vivid hair colors featured at the Zac Posen show.  Backstage, John Frieda Hair Care used rich shades of Precision Foam Colour to enhance the already breathtaking color of these models’ blonde, brunette, red and black tresses to create a truly memorable, color drenched look that complimented the vibrancy of Posen’s clothing line.

Now, the two are partnering to once again create the “it” look of the season.  For a limited time, Precision Foam Colour collection will literally be wearing Zac Posen’s designs.  Each limited edition box features one of four prints, all handpicked by Posen to complement

Harry Josh shares how to achieve the perfect blowout (at home)

Do you struggle with trying to create a salon-caliber blowout at home? If so, John Frieda‘s International Creative Consultant, Harry Josh has some advice — beginning with taking your time. “A perfect blowout can last for days,” says Harry. “Taking the time to do it correcting may be an extra ten minutes, but you’ll have gorgeous hair at least 24 hours. It’s not worth rushing it!”

Step One: Prep Your Hair
Take a good look at your hair type and identify its weakness: Frizz? Damage from heat styling? Lack of volume? When you get out of the shower, apply a pre-blowout product which targets that weakness. If you have frizzy hair, apply Frizz-Ease (Original Formula Hair Serum or the new Sheer Solution Lightweight Frizz Control, if you have fine hair) to soaking wet hair to combat frizz. If your hair is damaged and

Dinner with Harry Josh + What’s NEW at John Frieda

If ever a man that could get you excited about hair… it’s Harry Josh. Hair stylist to the stars including Gweneth Paltrow, Katy Perry and Rose Bryne (he’s responsible for that amazing bob we all drooled over at the SAG Awards), Harry Josh is also the International Creative Consultant for John Frieda. And I love that! It takes someone constantly working with different hair consistencies and styles to really get to know what’s lacking in the market place and what can be improved.

{Harry Josh and the John Frieda team present the new products at the blogger dinner}

So as part of a special celebratory dinner of their latest product launches, John Frieda & Harry Josh hosted an intimate dinner for myself and fellow bloggers. And without further ado, here’s what’s new at  John Frieda:

First up, Frizz-Ease Sheer Solution ($9.99):

For all of you looking for a lightweight frizz reducer but get turned off by serums that are too greasy or weigh your hair down, get excited! This rendition of their existing Frizz-Ease serum, is specifically designed for fine to medium hair.

Part lightweight serum, part smoothing elixir this shake-to-activate dual formula is specifically designed to fight frizz and leave hair light and manageable whether you style straight, wavy, or curly.

I have long, wavy (I know it doesn’t appear that way in most of my pictures since I’m always straightening it) but it’s thin. So in theory this is meant for my hair type, however I have a lot of it — I have enough hair for small village. And because of this I fall somewhere in between this product and the original. For the time being, I like the how light it is and that it goes on towel-dried hair. Although, I can already tell come that come summer, I’ll need something heavier to fight my

Fresh Start Beauty Products on a Budget

As we say goodbye to January and have completed our first month of 2012; I’ve been thinking a lot about many of the “new year, fresh start” type resolutions we make for ourselves: to look better, feel better, travel more, save money… Taking some of these goals into consideration, I’ve put together some of my favorite travel-friendly on-a-budget products all under $15 to help you on your way.

1. TRESemme FRESH START Dry Shampoo – Dry shampoo has been all the rage for the past year and with good reason! It’s an easy way to revive your hair in between washes or when you’re leaving the gym and don’t have time to shower. And TRESemme has created an entire line of FRESH START aerosol dry Shampoos based on hair type and need! There is a Volumizing, Strengthening, Smoothing, and even a Moisturizing Waterless Foam version designed to absorb excess oil and remove odor without needing a drop of water. And best part is they are priced under $6 and come in two sizes, 5.7oz and 2oz; which is perfect for travel, and compact enough to fit in your make-up case or gym bag.

2. John Frieda Full Repair Touch-Up Flyaway Tamer (0.5 fl oz/$9.99) – This product is genius! Packaged within a mascara bottle, it contains a crystal clear polish formulated with Inca Inchi Oil that weightlessly takes down flyaways without being sticky. It’s great for on-the-go touch-ups and is safe for color-treated and chemically-treated hair. Just brush the mascara wand against those flyaways and watch them settle.

3. Aveeno Smart Essentials Daily Nourishing Moisturizer with SPF30 (2.5 fl oz/$14.99) – Just because it’s winter does not mean you can stop wearing an SPF! This moisturizer is lightweight, hydrating and protects against sun exposure, free-radicals and environmental toxins (which NYC is full of!). It goes on smoothly, absorbs quickly and is very hydrating. Plus it can be worn under your makeup without making it flake.

4. Clean & Clear Limited Edition Hello Kitty Oil Absorbing Sheets ($4.99/50 sheets) – launching in February, Clean & Clear is teaming up with Hello Kitty to bring you this oh-so-adorable limited edition version

Look at those eyes! Ignore my hair (I was rained on)

Halloween is a fun time of year when you can really go outside your comfort zone and play dress up without any concern about looking too ridiculous or over-dressed.  This year, I decided to be Kim Kardashian.  It was very entertaining creating this costume considering it was my first ‘stuff my bra/butt experience.’  It also gave me an opportunity to test a lot of products.

Here’s a quick excerpt of the my Kim Kardashian look (more detailed review to come):

Redken Go Clean Shampoo and Finish Up Conditioner – Love it! This is part of Redken’s men’s line but it works really well on my hair.  Great lather, my hair comes out shiny and well, clean.  But yes, you’ll smell like a dude.  When men ask me for a list of products I recommend for them, this is always on the list (unless they have color treated hair).

Ken Paves Professional Styling Iron – Part of Ken Paves’ Travel line, is this lightweight straightener, which is fast becoming my everyday straightener – it’s that good.  Originally I was apprehensive about this product since I didn’t think ‘one heat setting fits all’ is viable for flat irons; however it gets very hot (up to 410 degrees F), which is what is really necessary for my curly hair.  Warning, if you generally use your flat iron on a low heat setting, this may not be the product for you.  Unless of course the heat settings automatically adjusts based on hair need, but either way there is no dial to manually control it.  I will investigate this further and report back.

Living Proof Straight Making No Frizz Styling Treatment – a great protective cream for when you’re using a flat iron or blow-drying your hair.  Helps fight frizz and only requires a small dollop to service your entire scalp.  It’s no wonder this line has been winning so many prestigious beauty awards!

Cutler Specialist Fly-Away Control Stick This is my go to product for fly aways. Shaped like a deodorant stick, I just roll them over problematic areas and I’m all set for the entire evening.

John Frieda Luxurious Volume All-Out Hold Hairspray – This product fell a little flat.  It has great hold, but didn’t maintain the volume I was hoping for.

L’Oreal Infallible Plumping Lip Gloss in Plumped Pink and Plumped Red – It tingles a bit, and I definitely felt a little plumping action taking place, but having pretty full lips already, it wasn’t
