The First Amendment Party

Kicking off my weekend in DC, Amy and I hit “The First Amendment” party with one goal of Amy finally exercising her freedom of speech on Bradley Cooper.

Hosted by The Atlantic and NationalJournal, the event, which included a live performance by Chris Rob was held at the Long View Gallery. Google had a lounge in the back of gallery which was where all the celebrity guests tented out.

Of all the crazy things that could have happened, some man crept behind the plants in the lounge and lunged at Sean Penn. Fortunately he was caught or more so grabbed mid-air by an incredibly large bouncer. I happened to be walking by right at that moment and literally had to duck out of this mans way. It was insane!

Mario Bello and Ian Somerhalder gave a speech

White House Correspondents’ Association Weekend

While the world’s been obsessing over Kate’s dress, I’ve been doing a bit of that myself over what to wear to the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) parties. That’s right, I’ll be live from DC! I’ve been in LA all week and I’m flying direct to DC today, so I had some advance planning to do when leaving NY.

I think the winning dress is this lovely Nicole Miller number…

What do you think of my Nicole Miller dress?

Sleep No More

A few weeks ago while I was at Katie Holmes’ John Frieda event, I ran into a group of friends I hadn’t seen in a while. Amidst our departure one of them mumbled something about how we should go to this play, Sleep No More, where you wear a mask and it’s totally ‘Eye’s Wide Shut’ like. I didn’t really know what that meant at the time –was I going to watch a play and be seduced while wearing a mask? Especially since it was at a hotel I had never heard of –the McKittrick. I was intrigued.

The emails circulated, tickets we’re bought and next thing I know I’m entering a set of large unmarked black doors and being asked to check everything. When in Rome… I gave them my purse, coat, cell phone –it felt kind of liberating. I then walked to the 2nd floor bar and joined my friends. And that’s where the journey began. You walk through this maze of darkness feeling your way through and come out in something set out of the 1940s. Live entertainment with tables and a bar. The hosts all dress to a tee as if we’re all at a masquerade ball –only at this point we weren’t required to wear masks. The ticket alone was worth hanging out at the bar all night.

You’re given a card as your ticket (I had a jack), which designates your group. And call different cards up to enter the hotel. Once yours is called you follow the seductress into a small room where

My NEW Ferragamo Bag: Charlize Tote

Rocking my new Ferragamo bag!

As many of you know thanks to your countless votes I was the proud winner of the Ferragamo “W List”. The prize was a bag from their Spring/Summer collection (drool).

Last month my mystery bag arrived and to my great disappointment, it was –errr–ahh–not my style (you remember the post I wrote).  Unfortunately, when everyone you know and even more people you don’t voted for you, it poses the never-ending chain of emails and Facebook message of “did you get your bag yet?”

Winning a bag out of the support of so many is something I wanted to wear loud and proud, which is why I took a memorable stroll to the counter and exchanged it for what could be the new love of my life. After all of

DC Cupcake Season Finale –Katherine and Ben Get Engaged!

Cupcake Engagement Ring!

This month reality TV series DC Cupcakes premiered the season finale of their 2nd season. The show, which is centered around two sisters, Katherine and Sophie, who traded their corporate jobs to open the cupcake bakery, Georgetown Cupcake.

The finale, labeled “Katherine’s Surprise”, follows Sophie as she attempts to plan and surprise her sister with an engagement party for her and fiancé, Ben. Funny enough, I was there for the party and taping of the episode (random, right?). Although until the finale aired I wasn’t able to talk about it –I signed a waiver.

Enjoying my amazing cupcakes gift box! Dress: Nicole Miller

Ben and I share a very close mutual friend who asked me to be his date to the event. I’m not sure what I was expecting out of a surprise engagement party –maybe a huge crowd and an even larger cake? Frankly I didn’t care. It was filmed in mid-January, back when I was recovering from a partially collapsed lung (and you thought you had a bad week), and needed out of NY. Any excuse to get out of bed, void of take-out and sweats and put on a form fitting dress (ahem Nicole Miller) sounded like a dream.

The party was hosted in a private room at contemporary Asia-French fusion restaurant, OYA. I walked in and was surprised to see it was an intimate gathering of close friends and family of maybe 25 people…and uh, me!

Ben and Katherine walked in and we’re both glowing, as the crowd yelled surprise. I would like to take a moment to appreciate the ginormous cupcake engagement ring Sophie made! It was unreal!

AVEENO Wants You To Take Steps For The Planet

Walking through the Aveeno Forest in Times Square

With Earth Day right around the corner (April 22nd), AVEENO kicked off the month with an ACTIVE NATURALS Forest in New York’s Times Square to launch their BE AN ACTIVE NATURAL campaign. While I’ve been to many pop-up shops, this is definitely my first pop-up forest and most enjoyable (and natural) walk through Times Square!

The forest was part of the AVEENO BE AN ACTIVE NATURAL™ program, which is in an initiative to help raise awareness for healthy living and environmental sustainability. The program, encourages consumers to make small changes in their daily lives and they are rewarding everyone who joins them on FACEBOOK (www.facebook.com/aveeno), and makes a pledge towards a healthier planet. Inside Angelo David Salon

Angelo David, Lara Eurdolian (post-styled hair!)

Celebrity hairstylist Angelo David, needs very little introduction. Notorious for his Couture Hair extensions and additions, the man can transform any type of hair –short, damaged, thinning, and create length and volume. Extensions, fillers, wigs…his salon, does it all using 100% human hair perfectly matched with your hair type, color, texture and wave pattern.

As someone with long, full hair (don’t hate me), I haven’t explored extensions, although they fascinate me. They have been such an ongoing trend, and their ability to serve as a decoy to transform a head of hair (when done properly) is amazing. While Angelo David salon does specialize in hair extensions, they also offers a full menu of hair styling, beauty and nail services.

Inside Angelo David Salon

There’s something to be said about a salon that from the street level has no storefront or signage, yet still manages to be busy. The environment was very warm and friendly and from the moment I stepped off the elevator it felt like I was walking into a family establishment. While sitting in the waiting room, Angelo David, came out and asked if I wanted a tour (of course I did). I perused

By Robert James Opens in John Allan’s

Checking out the sunglasses at the By Robert James Grand Opening at John Allan's. A shoe shine in the background!

LES menswear designer, Robert James recently opened a pop-up shop of his By Robert James label in John Allan’s in NYC. Have you ever been to John Allan’s? It’s a total club house, complete with billiards, cafe, gallery space and more notably a hair and nail salon complete with shoe shine services.

Prior the the announcement of the two combining forces, I had never even heard of John Allan’s. Possibly because it’s tucked away on a quiet street in TriBeCa and ever since

Yours Truly Featured on the Today Show: Women in the Workplace

This morning I was on a segment for the Today Show (I was literally asked to do it last night), that circled around the challenges of working for women vs. men and my choice to get out of a full-time role and become a consultant (and start prettyconnected.com). The segment was derived from a recent study that women are not nurturing towards other women in the workforce and “men exceeded women in receiving job-related support from female supervisors”. Also that more than twice as many people would rather work for a man over a women.

Fostering a career in the beauty/fashion industry has made me no stranger to female bosses. And it is disappointing to see segments of this nature and hear stories of nightmare women bosses and toxic working environments; what’s worse is the reality of the situation. Early in my career,

Pretty Connected Featured in Revlon’s “What’s Your Power Color” Video

Back in February, Lucky Magazine hosted their inaugural Fashion and Beauty Blog (FABB) Conference, powered by Revlon. Over the course of the day Revlon filmed a segment asking each of us two makeup questions: “What is your power color?” and “What is your power makeup pick?”

There were 150 bloggers in attendance at FABB and only a handful were featured. I am so honored to have made the cut–much less be be highlighted for both questions!

The video can also be viewed on Revlon’s Facebook page and new YouTube channel and Lucky Magazine’s Facebook page, so check them out and be sure to let them know what your power color is.

Speaking of video segments…I’m excited to announce that I’ll be collaborating with The Look on The Pulse Network. More details to come (and of course I’ll post it once I’m done with the shoot).
