PC at Rebecca Taylor Spring 2012 RTW Collection

Rebecca Taylor was true to her reputation for S/S 2012 offering feminine, wearable dresses and separates that move with the body. Unfortunately, iPhone’s video capabilities and Fashion Week lighting are not a winning combination, but here’s a quick peak at the finale of the show:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKHLSt1XrJ8

“Inspiration is so ephemeral,” said Taylor, stating that she picked up her inspiration from a hodgepodge of places. Aiming to set a contemporary, fresh, and ethereal tone to the designs, the collection emphasizes cut and color with unexpected cut-outs in sibhouettes. This was reflected in her collection which mixed flowy materials and sparkly embellished tops, with some structured dark colored dresses. Also white, neon yellow, floral prints as well as a few dark black and blue pieces were thrown in, creating this disjointed palette. Although the collection lacks the drama and excitement of many runway shows, it is very wearable and I am sure the retails buyers were marking their favorites to display this Spring.

My two favorite looks from the collection included

Vivienne Tam at her Fashion Yoga Collection

While designers debuted their spring 2012 ready-to-wear collections during New York Fashion Week, Vivienne Tam decided to take the opportunity to present her new Fashion Yoga Collection. Utilizing the outdoor space of Barclay’s Capital Grove within Lincoln Center she strayed from the usual models standing around, while the press takes their picture and went with a more interactive route. Lead by yoga experts, Rodney Yee, they created a living and breathing fashion yoga installation. During the presentation, 20 female yogis, dressed head to toe in Tam’s new line performed a choreographed yoga session, lead by Lee.

DVF at Lucky FABB + TODAY ONLY 20% off Harper-Connect Bag!

DVF at Lucky FABB showing off her NEW Harper-Connect bag

Last month, the Pretty Connected team attended Lucky Magazine’s 2nd annual Fashion and Beauty Blogger (FABB) Conference. Highlight of the day was keynote speaker Diane von Furstenburg, who’s all around fabulousness inspires us to no end.

Her energy, her innovation and her support of women motivates us to be the entreprenuers we strive for at Pretty Connected –especially with our recent incorparation of our sister consulting company, Pretty Social (website and more info to come!).

We’re so used to women in this industry being powerhouses or workaholics (we’re slightly guilty of that), so to see the mother-ship of powerhouse women be so calm, collected and balanced made us hang onto her every word and feed off her advice. She stood before us composed, head to toe in her signature label; slim, tan and gorgeous (as always), spreading her message of ‘you can have it all; a great career, a wonderful family and healthy lifestyle’.

As she spoke out to a room of 250 predominantly female bloggers, she listed these three things all women should have (surprisingly enough a DVF wrap-dress was not one of them):

1. The most important relationship you will ever have is the one you make with yourself.

2. All women should have children.

3. It is very important for women to have an identity outside of their career.

DVF Harper-Connect bag

To each their own on #2 (especially since we’re not there yet, but look forward to that day), but we couldn’t be more thrilled and in agreement over #1 and #3; which we take to heart as we navigate to find a healthy work/life balance.

She also made a great social media point about when she tweets (yes when she signs ‘love Diane’ at the end of the tweet, it’s actually her!), that the non-sales, non-promotional, more heartfelt tweets are always the ones that get the most attention and responses!

She also took a moment to show off her new DVF Harper-Connect bag, which looks like any other gorgeous, well constructed, perfect-sized everyday bag and then opened it up to display that it doubles as an iPad case! To die for! And exclusive today only (September 29th) on DVF.com,  she’s offering the bag for 20% off!!!! Use the code HARPER20 at checkout to redeem.

So if you have the means, take advantage. We’ll be infinitely jealous of all who do!

Also on our radar, is the new DVF fragrance, Diane, which debut last week at Bloomingdale’s. Described as a floral woody scent that combines the Mastery of the Frangipani Flower with the Softness of Violet Leaves, I’m not sure what that means, but it sounds divine!

PC at Nicole Miller Spring 2012 RTW Collection

My first Spring 2011 show of the season and definitely one of my favorites as far as totally funky, wearable 60’s athletic wear meets 80’s neon hues and checkers turned ready-to-wear collection goes. Appropriately named Fast Forward/Rewind as it took a fashion forward look on the past, I’m all about this collection! It featured fitted dresses with geometric shapes, flowy tops paired with fitted pants, prints, checkers and bright colors galore. Great black basics were mixed in (and easy to miss) within the psychedelic prints and pay special attention to the shoes! They are divine! The collection was so fun and full of energy that it got me super excited for spring!

Described as the speed of wheels in motion. The momentum of a skateboard shredding through the air. The sooming tempo of an inline track. The velocity of a bicycle racing towards the goal… All I can say is Nicole scored!

And seriously, when am I not wearing Nicole Miller to events? In a world where rarely anything looks like it was made for my body, she’s one of my favorites; so a ticket to her fashion show is always a highlight and score to cover for Pretty Connected. Plus it’s a good chance to preview everything I plan on wearing for the next calendar year;)

It’s clear by soft nude makeup (look created by James Kaliardos for MAC Cosmetics) and straight hair (lead by Kevin Ryan for RSession Tool), all eyes we’re meant for the clothes. And considering they speak

Spotted: Giuliana Rancic at the Lia Sopia Lounge

Spotted: Giuliana Rancic at the Lia Sopia Social Fashion Suite, as the jewelry brand debuts their Fall/Winter 2011 collection and Red Carpet line at the Empire Hotel during New York Fashion Week.

In what felt like a Pretty Connected exclusive with the E! News host, what with my friend Jonathan Valdez (of OJ&B ) and I, being the only lounge attendants with her (other then the staff and camera-man); we took full advantage of some quality time with Giuliana, complimenting her on — her jewelry!

Scope out the Lia Sophia Fall/Winter 2011 Red Carpet Collection! I picked up the red/gold necklace.

Although after making my selection I had slight remorse over not getting the arrow ring! How hot is that!?!?! Jon Valdez scored it instead (arrow earrings and necklace are also available).

Then we played with the jewelry on the step and repeat until our unexpected guest Giuliana came through the lounge, then all eyes

The WIE Symposium presented by Sarah Brown, Donna Karen and Arianna Huffington

Donna Karen moderates the 'Mind Body & Spirit - Creating Calm in the Chaos' panel

This week marked the 2nd annual Women: Inspiration & Enterprise (WIE) Symposium hosted by Sarah Brown, Donna Karen and Arianna Huffington garnering the theme of “what it means to be a woman now”. The two day conference featured a series of panels and discussions led by women leaders, activists, entrepreneurs and entertainers exploring how women can be more socially conscious, spiritually balanced and work to become more enterprising and inspiring leaders.

Speakers and panelists included Nancy Pelosi, Dr. Jill Biden, Kelly Cutrone, Rebecca Minkoff, Jane Wurand, Katia Beauchamp. Cynthia Rowley, Alexandra Wilkis Wilson, Christy Turlington, Dany Levy, Fran Drescher, Nancy Brinker, Gayle King, Georgina Chapman, Sonia Kashuk, amongst many more. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to clear my schedule to the extent I was hoping to be present for all the panels, I did however catch the Mind Body & Spirit – Creating Calm in the Chaos segment moderated by Donna Karen; who’s panel took us through a meditation exercise illustrating how just a few minutes of “getting grounded” can help bring balance to ourselves and those

9/26 Gossip Girl To Premiere Clothing Line and Season Five

Gossip Girl by Romeo & Juliet Couture collection

Season 5 of The CW hit, Gossip Girl premieres on Monday, September 26th. In conjunction with the premiere, Gossip Girl will launch a clothing line through Romeo & Juliet Couture available at major fashion retailers including Kitson, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue. Which is appropriate given that’s where you’d expect Serena and Blair to already shop. Although considering the prestige retailers picking up the line, the price point is in the lower range at $80-$200. The collection will launch with tops, bottoms, dresses and outerwear pieces. Come spring the line will extend to include accessories.

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Romeo & Juliet Couture on the sophisticated, fashion-forward line that truly brings the essence of the series to life,” said Maryelle Zarakas, Senior Vice President Worldwide Marketing and TV & Studio Licensing, Warner Bros. Consumer Products. “Romeo & Juliet Couture has created a collection that will resonate with fans of the show.”

I sure hope so, because the clothes is the only consistent thing that keeps me going back to that show. And frankly, from what I’ve seen of the collection they don’t read trendsetter or Serena van der Woodsen to me. The idea is there but I’m not overwhelmed by them nor have they  garnered the same reaction I have to the styling on the show. I wonder if Eric Damon had anything to do with the line (my guess is no). I do still plan to check them out in person and anticipate being pleasantly surprised.

What do you think Gossip Girl fans? Is this what you’d hope for from a Gossip Girl collection? To preview the line visit romeoandjulietcouture.com

Get Lucky at Lord & Taylor: 20% off sale!

Shopping with Lindsay from Saucy Glossie

It doesn’t get too much lucky-ier then an invitation from Lucky Magazine and Lord & Taylor for an exclusive shopping experience with L&T’s Fashion Editor at Large, Suze Yalof Schwartz and their Fashion Director, Paula Correri before the store opens. What’s even better is doing so during this crucial month when it’s time to transition your wardrobe from summer to fall and your in need of a few key pieces! Suze’s advice for quick updates for fall is it’s all about sparkle (although pay attention to your shape to be sure it’s flattering), get into the color blocking fad and if all else fails rely on beauty for a quick and easy pick me up.

While it’s clear Lord & Taylor has been making grand strides to invest in their classic department store and modernize it (have you seen Suze on the cab TV’s?); I have to admit they have been my secret weapon for a while now. Since there ‘ultimate face-lift‘ last year on October 26th (I remember the opening date as it was on my birthday), the redesign has made for an exceptional shopping experience and houses my favorite Clinique counter (check it out, it’s interactive and so amazingly merchandized —read my post about it). Although, I didn’t really have a problem with the older one since what I’ve always loved about their 5th avenue location is it rivals the assortment of Bloomingdale’s but mitigates the crowds or over-selling sales associates. And while you may equate it with an older crowd or sans the cool factor of the Brown Bag, nothing beats the privacy, instant access to the dressing rooms or spectacular beauty floor; especially when you’re in a rush and not looking for that shopping experience as much as to just get in and out of the store as quickly as possible with everything on your list. And they have the best
