Brands Doing Some Good

Rihanna for UNICEF's Tap Project

I cover a lot of charities on this site since giving back is important to me and I’m constantly amazed by the amount of press releases I receive with brands showing their support by donating to various causes. So to show my support, I thought I would do a sum up of the recent ones I’ve received.

NYU Annual Premiere Benefit Fashion Show EXPO 2011 – Friday April 29th, 3PM (day show), 7:30PM (evening show). All of the proceeds from the show will benefit Hamilton-Madison House, a nonprofit community center that caters to low-income households in NYC.

If you can’t make the show, you can still get involved. EXPO 2011 has partnered with GoodSearch. Anyone online can download the GoodSearch toolbar, specify “New York University – NYU EXPO – Hamilton Madison House” as the chosen charity, and each time that they use the toolbar to search the internet, Hamilton-Madison House benefits. UNICEF Tap Project – Celebrities, including Selena Gomez, Adrian Grenier, Dwight Howard, Rihanna, Robin Williams and Taylor Swift have joined forces with the U.S. Fund for UNICEF to engage consumers in a conversation about the lack of access to safe, clean water for nearly 900 million children and adults across the globe. The UNICEF Tap Project is a public service campaign that aims to draw attention to this serious issue and encourage the public to take action to reduce the numbers of children dying daily from waterborne illnesses, the second-highest cause of preventable childhood deaths in the world. Considering $1 provides clean water for a child for 40 days –imagine the difference you can make! Get involved at http://tapproject.org/

Sleep No More

A few weeks ago while I was at Katie Holmes’ John Frieda event, I ran into a group of friends I hadn’t seen in a while. Amidst our departure one of them mumbled something about how we should go to this play, Sleep No More, where you wear a mask and it’s totally ‘Eye’s Wide Shut’ like. I didn’t really know what that meant at the time –was I going to watch a play and be seduced while wearing a mask? Especially since it was at a hotel I had never heard of –the McKittrick. I was intrigued.

The emails circulated, tickets we’re bought and next thing I know I’m entering a set of large unmarked black doors and being asked to check everything. When in Rome… I gave them my purse, coat, cell phone –it felt kind of liberating. I then walked to the 2nd floor bar and joined my friends. And that’s where the journey began. You walk through this maze of darkness feeling your way through and come out in something set out of the 1940s. Live entertainment with tables and a bar. The hosts all dress to a tee as if we’re all at a masquerade ball –only at this point we weren’t required to wear masks. The ticket alone was worth hanging out at the bar all night.

You’re given a card as your ticket (I had a jack), which designates your group. And call different cards up to enter the hotel. Once yours is called you follow the seductress into a small room where

DC Cupcake Season Finale –Katherine and Ben Get Engaged!

Cupcake Engagement Ring!

This month reality TV series DC Cupcakes premiered the season finale of their 2nd season. The show, which is centered around two sisters, Katherine and Sophie, who traded their corporate jobs to open the cupcake bakery, Georgetown Cupcake.

The finale, labeled “Katherine’s Surprise”, follows Sophie as she attempts to plan and surprise her sister with an engagement party for her and fiancé, Ben. Funny enough, I was there for the party and taping of the episode (random, right?). Although until the finale aired I wasn’t able to talk about it –I signed a waiver.

Enjoying my amazing cupcakes gift box! Dress: Nicole Miller

Ben and I share a very close mutual friend who asked me to be his date to the event. I’m not sure what I was expecting out of a surprise engagement party –maybe a huge crowd and an even larger cake? Frankly I didn’t care. It was filmed in mid-January, back when I was recovering from a partially collapsed lung (and you thought you had a bad week), and needed out of NY. Any excuse to get out of bed, void of take-out and sweats and put on a form fitting dress (ahem Nicole Miller) sounded like a dream.

The party was hosted in a private room at contemporary Asia-French fusion restaurant, OYA. I walked in and was surprised to see it was an intimate gathering of close friends and family of maybe 25 people…and uh, me!

Ben and Katherine walked in and we’re both glowing, as the crowd yelled surprise. I would like to take a moment to appreciate the ginormous cupcake engagement ring Sophie made! It was unreal!

By Robert James Opens in John Allan’s

Checking out the sunglasses at the By Robert James Grand Opening at John Allan's. A shoe shine in the background!

LES menswear designer, Robert James recently opened a pop-up shop of his By Robert James label in John Allan’s in NYC. Have you ever been to John Allan’s? It’s a total club house, complete with billiards, cafe, gallery space and more notably a hair and nail salon complete with shoe shine services.

Prior the the announcement of the two combining forces, I had never even heard of John Allan’s. Possibly because it’s tucked away on a quiet street in TriBeCa and ever since

Pretty Connected Featured in Revlon’s “What’s Your Power Color” Video

Back in February, Lucky Magazine hosted their inaugural Fashion and Beauty Blog (FABB) Conference, powered by Revlon. Over the course of the day Revlon filmed a segment asking each of us two makeup questions: “What is your power color?” and “What is your power makeup pick?”

There were 150 bloggers in attendance at FABB and only a handful were featured. I am so honored to have made the cut–much less be be highlighted for both questions!

The video can also be viewed on Revlon’s Facebook page and new YouTube channel and Lucky Magazine’s Facebook page, so check them out and be sure to let them know what your power color is.

Speaking of video segments…I’m excited to announce that I’ll be collaborating with The Look on The Pulse Network. More details to come (and of course I’ll post it once I’m done with the shoot).

Happy Anniversary Mex and the City

Photo booth pictures! Lara Eurdolian (me!), Mex and the City Creator Erika Mercado, and "The Moogie Man"

Mex and the City is a very cool cultural website and blog created to promote the free thinking, enterprising, and artistic efforts of young creatives in New York City. Created by Marina Garcia-Vasquez, Iris Avelar, Ruby Vizcarra and Erika Mercado, it is a blog that speaks about the increasing Mexican culture in the New York landscape in a fun and personal tone.

Basically they are the authorities on all things Mex in this city and throw incredibly fun events.  Last night we celebrated their one year anniversary at the Hous Projects, a very cool space decorated in their blog posts!  So creative… It was a hip crowd, toasting with delicious margaritas by Milagro tequila, bonding over photo booth

Abdi Assadi Talks Intuition at Norma Kamali’s Wellness Cafe

Abdi Assadi. Check out his book, Shadows On the Path

Fashion designer/icon, Norma Kamali is on a wellness kick. Well more then a kick, it’s a way of life. I mean look at her, she’s definitely doing something right (it’s probably the Organic Avenue diet and all of those Physique 57 fitness classes). Back in September she hosted “Conversations”, a dialogue on wellness solutions with notable speakers including, Twyla Tharp, Horst Rechelbacher, and Abdi Assadi, which I was very lucky enough to be apart of.  She’s additionally has been hosting various wellness events at her store (sign up for her mailing list to stay informed). Her latest, featured a speech by Abdi Assadi, spiritual advisor, acupuncturist, and author of Shadows On the Path, on intuition.

Abdi Assadi, Norma Kamali

I was first turned on to Abdi Assani over a year ago by my former roommate (and best friend) Mike, who ordered me his book, after I was going though some distress. Probably some ‘what’s my purpose in life crisis’ or freak out over my 16th breakup with my boyfriend at the time. If you’ve ever met Mike, you’d probably recognize his endurance level for any type of bullshit is at 0.05% –and even then, he’s probably only tolerating that much out of friendship. Mike was one of the lucky individuals who got through Abdi’s waitlist, and gets to see him professionally. An endorsement from Mike has more value to me than 3 Michelen stars, so needless to say, I’ve been

Sean Parker is Engaged

Sean Parker, a co-founder of Napster and founding president of Facebook (or as many of you know him as Justin Timberlake’s playboy role in The Social Network) is engaged to singer-songwriter Alexandra Lenas.

I know this because I was at his not-so-recent 30th birthday party at his beyond amazing home in NYC (that’s a funny story for another time), and the blog post I wrote about it has been blowing up! So naturally I googled him to see what all the excitement was about and there you have it, his engagement.

And now for a little walk down memory lane, back to December 2009 at Sean’s 30th birthday…

some people I don't know, Lara Eurdolian (me!), Sean Parker, and someone else I don't know

Where the end of the night concluded with this outstanding group picture I’m in. Unfortunately, I have no idea who any of these people are (minus Mr. Parker) or why we even took this picture. Then again, who care, very few can throw a party the way Sean Parker can, so you just gotta roll with it.

Congratulations Sean and Alexandra!

Breakfast with Dr. Hirsch for SENSA

By now you’ve probably heard of SENSA, I had but knew nothing beyond it being some type of weight loss supplement. And frankly all that type of stuff kind of freaks me out. I tend to generalize them all into one category; innovative pills filled with chemicals, in fancy boxes promising to miraculously dissolve away those extra pounds. Of course when you read the fine print it has some comment about how it works best as part of a healthier diet and exercise regimen. And doesn’t that somewhat defeat the purpose? If I can get myself to eat healthier and regularly work out, I think I’m on my way to solving the problem.

Dr. Alan Hirsch

Out of pure curiosity, I got off my high horse and decided to join Dr. Alan Hirsch, M.D. for a breakfast he was hosting to learn more about SENSA, the 6-month weight-loss system that uses science and your sense of smell to shed unwanted pound. And I’m glad I did because he’s a breath of fresh air. I’m used to nutrition buffs or fitness obsessed working-out-is-my-life types starting these weigh-loss programs that for the life of me I cannot relate to (although I am envious of their drive and healthy endorphins).  Dr. Hirsch on the other hand is a Neurologist and Psychiatrist, and his passion for research and how the brain and sensory system of the human body operates is evident in every anecdote and fact he delivered.

“Did you know in a study we did on what people want kisses to taste like we found married and single women prefer their dates or husband’s kisses to taste fresh, like mint toothpaste; married men like their wives to taste like spearmint or peppermint, and single men prefer them to taste like alcohol,” he told the audience. That narrative is slightly off topic, but I couldn’t get enough of these random studies. I asked him

Essie and TOMS Shoes Partner: Will You Go A Day Without Shoes?

Nail polish powerhouse, Essie has teamed up with TOMS Shoes in support of the shoe brand’s global campaign, One Day Without Shoes (April 5th), which helps raise awareness of the millions of children at risk for disease and infection as they grow up without shoes.
