Fun, Corky Gifts for Under $10

Let the holiday gift guides begin! Here are some fun, silly gifts for adults and kids all for under $10. They also make for a great stocking stuffer!1. TO-DO TATTOO ($7)– I found this at the infamous Powell’s bookstore in Portland, Oregon. A temporary tattoo to do list, complete with skin-safe gel pen. Peel it on, then use the pen to write out your to do list. Perfect gag gift (or practical gift in my case) for all your disorganized, flaky or plain forgetful friends. Each pack comes with 12 ‘to do…’ tattoos, perfectly sized to fit in the palm of your hand, although I generally stick them on my arm. For more information visit worldwidefred.com

2. Risk It/Play it Safe Coin ($4)– It’s genius! A silver, rustic looking coin that on one side has ‘RISK IT’ imprinted on it and on the other ‘PLAY IT SAFE’. For all those moments in question, now you can just flip a coin and leave it to fate. This is somewhat an iconic gift I give to the very special men in my life –who may or may not happen to make reckless or irresponsible decisions, and need a little voice of reason.  I like to

Beyonce for Temptu: Dereon Temporary Tattoos

Beyonce under her mother, Tina Knowles’ fashion label, House of Dereon has teamed up with airbrush makeup company Temptu to create a new limited edition line of temporary tattoos.

“The look is 1960s pin-up meets futuristic biker chic”- Beyoncé for Deréon

Released earlier this month, there are three collectible variations of the tattoo kit ($16), each consisting of 8 Temporary Tattoo Transfer sheets (2 each of 4 designs) and 10 Tattoo application pads; cleverly packaged in what looks like a CD cover. Temptu has also released a DELUXE EDITION ($34), which is composed of all three kits and a few added bonuses.

Check out Beyonce’s promo video:

Her eye makeup in this clip is fabulous, although I’m not sure how I feel about the platinum blond hair. The tattoos in the video are the designs in the collection, however

Boston’s MFA features Avedon and Scaasi

Dovima with Elephants

Fresh off the plane from San Francisco, I had an eventful week in Boston between the Catwalk for a Cure breast cancer awareness event and Natural Products Expo East trade show featuring keynote speaker Alicia Silverstone (I’ll post more on both experiences shortly). For now, as a museum and fashion enthusiast I want to talk about two great exhibits currently being showcased at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston: Avedon Fashion 1944-2000 (on display from Aug 10, 2010 – Jan 17, 2011) and Scaasi: American Couturier (on display from September 25 2010 – Jun 19, 2011).

Photographs by Richard Avedon

Avedon Fashion 1944-2000 – I first saw this exhibit last year, when it was on display at the ICP in NY. It doesn’t get old with time. Richard Avendon’s work is both iconic as you walk the decades of his peices and breath taking in his muses, the scenery and of course the fashion in his photography.  Don’t miss this opportunity to see Dovima with Elephants, amongst so many more classics.

By Arnold Scassi

Scassi: American Couturier – I wasn’t so familiar with Arnold Scassi’s designs when I walked into the exhibit. However, with all of his prestige over so

If you’re going to San Francisco…

I know I keep talking about fall and spring, but truthfully I’m soaking up every last bit of summer and jumped on a flight to sunny San Francisco.  NYC, I love you, but you’re going to have to do something about that rain if you’d like to hold me down.

If you ever find yourself in the bay area, here’s a small list of recommendations.

Dodge Challenger

1. If you need a car, rent a sweet ride. For me that translated to an orange, V8 hemi Dodge Challenger (think modern day Dukes of Hazzard). All that was missing was my daisy dukes (and 001 on the side of the car)!

Domaine Carneros Winery

2. Rev the engine and take that car for a ride! If you like wine, do a day trip to Napa. Ideally find a local friend to recommend some good choices (and drive you). I did and loved Domaine Carneros (I would like to live there) and Duckhorn Winery.

The drive to Santa Cruz

3. If you’re more of a beach enthusiast, drive along the coast to Santa Cruz . Pack a picnic (and good tunes) and enjoy scenic drive.  Don’t forget

Week in Review (9.20 – 9.24)– Parties, Places, and Happenings

Swarovski Element '22 Ways to Say Black' Event

Monday (20th) – I attended the Swarovski Elements ‘22 Ways to Say Black’ charity auction. Hosted at Phillips de Pury, I registered for a paddle and partook in the auction, although I came home empty handed.  The event raised over $100,000 to benefit breast cancer research. Guests in attendance included Halle Berry, Julianna Margulies, and Sofia Vergara.

Welcome to Coterie

Tuesday (21st) – The first day of the Fashion Coterie Sole Commerce show at Jacob Javitt center! I spent the day at the Chocolat Blu booth lusting over these shoes! I have to wait til Spring 2011 to add them to my collection. That should give me enough time to decide which color I want.

That evening I took my first Pole Dancing class (Intro to Pole Dancing, taught by Bonnie Fischer) at NY Pole. I’m not one for working out (I try, I just get bored), and I’m incredibly shy, so walking into the small studio, I was a little nervous. However, my friend and I had a blast! It was so fun, and we both felt so comfortable that it wasn’t scary at all. It was such a great workout and the time flew by. I even learned a thing or two;)

My new Hermes Silk Jersey Scarf (36"x36")

Wednesday (22nd) – I was a bad girl and joined my cousin at the Hermes sample sale.  Meet my new friend (above). Love my scarf, but I’m officially cut off.

Lara & Erika at the Casio Baby-G & Hellz Release Party

That evening the lovely Erika (from Shoes, Shirts, and Other Sh!t) and I attended the Baby-G & Hellz Collaboration Release Party featuring DJ Elle at 1Oak. Creating two signature watches, L.A. based designer Hellz and Casio Baby-G watches featured 80’s pop fashion homage to the NYC streets. What do you think of them? Better than the poor excuse of a drink 1Oak served up? Agreed. What can I say 1Oak if you’re not offering an open bar and are going to charge $18 a drink, put some alcohol in it.

Thursday (23rd) – Back to the Coterie show, this time to hang out with former Project Runway contestant, Daniel Feld and model his new line, Kymerah. I WANT IT ALL! I will post more about the line shortly.
