Megan Fox rocked the red carpet at the 2011 Golden Globe Awards dressed in Armani Prive with a classic Hollywood do that perfectly sculpted her face and complemented her one-strap gown.
Inspired to create a classic look for Megan Fox with a glamorous vibe, hairstylist Andy Lecompte achieved the look using Phyto Haircare to create a beautiful side-swept wave.
HERE’S HOW:
Lecompte started by applying Phyto Professional Intense Volume Mousse prior to blow-drying. He then set her hair using a 3/4-inch barrel curling iron and then pin curls. Once he released the pin curls, Lecompte brushed out her hair and gave it a deep side part.
For any regular Pretty Connected readers you’re probably aware of my love for ping pong and specifically the table tennis social club, SPiN New York (and their handsome owners). In fact I’m the first member of their club (I have a card that says ‘001’ and everything!). And as their biggest fan I’m passing on an invitation for an event they are hosting tomorrow night!
When: Wednesday, January 19th, 6:30PM Where: Museum of Natural History Milstein Hall of Ocean Life on the first floor. (Enter the Museum at 77th Street.)
As part of their crusade for endless ridiculousness (all in the name of ping pong) and places they aspire to play the sport consider yourself invited to come play with them at the American Museum of Natural History under the 94-foot Giant Blue Whale. It will be an evening focused on the science and skill of ping pong and to discover how the brain benefits from our favorite game.
Improve your skills with instruction by our SPiN Pros during free, open play and partake in a conversation with aficionados, including Susan Sarandon, puzzle master Will Shortz, Wendy A. Suzuki, Professor of Neural Science and Psychology at NYU, and a few ranking champions in a short discussion moderated by Melanie Stiassny, Curator of Ichthyology at the American Museum of Natural History.
This event is free and open to the public with a cash bar. Click HERE to learn more.
I am no Tequila expert –I learned that last month at a private Tequila tasting hosted by Rene Valdez, Jose Cuervo’s National Tequila Ambassador. Then again, I never claimed to be, I’m not one that savors the taste nor do I enjoy having it on the rocks. As far as I’m concerned, mix it with something fruity so I don’t have to taste it and if it doesn’t give me a hangover the next day then it’s good quality in my book. Needless to say I seized the opportunity to attend the tasting and get better acclimated with the alcohol and learn it’s rich history.
For starters I learned that Jose Cuervo is a real person — Jose Antonio de Cuervo to be exact! And the man invented the Tequila industry over 250 years ago, before Mexico was even Mexico. The original distillery, La Rojeña, where Cuervo produced the first ever agave spirit (modern day Tequila) still stands today. 50 years later, the Cuervo family obtained the first license to sell and distribute Tequila –hence the 1798 date on the bottle.
My favorite part is ten generations later, it’s still a family-owned and operated company! This month the Jose Cuervo family is introducing Jose Cuervo Tradicional Silver ($24.99/750mL). A reminiscent version of the original Tequila created more than 200 years ago by Don Jose Antonio de Cuervo in celebration of their rich heritage. So if you’re a tequila fan add this piece of history to your collection.
And speaking of Tequila, on Christmas Eve, Ami Mesika of GM Diamonds was confirmed as the maker of Tequila LEI 925; the most expensive bottle of Tequila –literally. The bottle is priced at $3.5 Million dollars thanks to it’s design of 3.6kilo of platinum with 6,400 diamonds on it for a total weight of 415ct. Needless to say, it won the Guinness record for the most expensive bottle in the world.
Of all the things I’d think to put 6,400 diamonds on, this would probably never cross my mind. Whenever I read stories like this, I’m baffled.
66 Degrees North, the brand that has been keeping Icelanders warm since 1926 unveiled it’s Winter 2011 Collection last week at the Scandinavia House Volvo Hall.
Creating an Icelandic experience –between the setting of the venue and serving REYKA Vodka with traditional Icelandic hors d’oeuvres (even the room was on the chillier side), their models walked the runway wearing select pieces from the 66 Degrees North Winter 2011 Men’s and Women’s collection.
True to their roots, 66 Degrees North is a response to Iceland’s challenging weather conditions (they can experience four seasons in one day!). The winter collection features a range of warm insulated and stylish protective clothing, comprised of a variety of down and nylon jackets, warm wool sweaters and accessories with accents of faux fur linings.
“We don’t let bad weather stop us from experiencing life!” – Halldor G Eyjolfsson, CEO 66 North.
I wish I could say the same! These recent storms in NY make me want to curl up by the imaginary fireplace (I wish I had) and never leave home. Although many pieces from this collection would have me singing another tune.
After flipping through the Look Book, I’m adding Vik Women’s Hooded Sweater ($168) in Red to my wish list! I love it!
That’s right, today is National Hat Day! More heat is lost through your head than any other part of your body so carpe diem and stay warm while making a statement today.
I’m celebrating with a vintage cloche I purchased last year.
Here are some tips compliments of www.eHow.com for how to wear the perfect hat on National Hat Day!
Choose a hat that fits your face and complements your skin tone. For instance, a person with a long face shouldn’t wear a hat with a lot of height, but a person with a round face will look good in a tall hat.
Restyle your hair. For most hats, it’s best to pull your hair back or let it hang down without styling it around your face. You’re more likely to get the dreaded “hat hair” if you style your hair the same way you do when you’re not wearing a hat.
Wear the correct size. Your hat shouldn’t come down over your ears or fall off every time you tilt your head. It shouldn’t give you a
While I love to accessorize and get creative with my outfit choices (and makeup), there is something to be said about owning really great, quality basics that can be worn on repeat to build a variety of looks and outfits or be worn alone and look effortlessly chic.
A warm coat that fits and is made well, will go a long way in your wardrobe. I bought mine last year from Marc by Marc Jacobs (#1) and it still looks brand new. Red has been huge this season and the shade I chose is a really happy one that works with my skin tone. No matter how disheveled I am, this coat instantly brightens me up and makes me look considerably more put together.
To compliment my coat, I opted for a crisp, white beanie from D&Y (#2). What I love about this knit is that it’s not too tight like a snowboarder hat or too big like an oversized beanie and I it’s light enough that I can carry it over into Spring. For those really bitter cold days, I turn to my Kaldi Arctic Hat from 66 North –the Icelandic brand designed to deal with extreme weather conditions. And if it’s good enough to keep Icelanders warm, then it can handle this New Yorker. And the lining is
Have you ever been to Daffy’s? If you live in the NYC you’ve probably walked by their stores; there are several. They are the discount retailer with big yellow signs with their DAFFY’S logo in large print written all down the front. Up until this week, my only other knowledge of the store was that “the ones in Jersey are the best”. Or at least that’s what a former colleague once told me when I complimented her on a jacked she purchased there.
Having been given a $50 gift certificate, I took the afternoon off to explore their assortment and do a little shopping. For the men’s department, I was shocked to see Sebago (one of my favorite brands for boat shoes) priced at $49.99, then further reduced on clearance for $37.49 (they generally retail for $120). For kids they had a great assortment of dresses and jackets. My big find was kids Ralph Lauren button down polo shirts for $16.99 (those retail for $40). Then on to women’s to really get down to business and do a little shopping for myself.
Overall the clothing wasn’t my aesthetic, however I was impressed to that they carried a limited assortment of Patrizia Pepe and Les Copains pieces. Both of these brands are very well known in Europe, and priced easily at 50-75% off from what they would retail for abroad. Their fragrance wall carried a large variety of luxury lines including Chloe, Burberry, CK, and Ed Hardy all priced around $15-$20 below retail.
After browsing the different departments of the store, I decided to spend my gift certificate split between the home department and socks. I found a great office desk organizer and wastebasket set, which perfectly complimented my New Years resolution of being more organized. There are actually way too many products on my desk so I plan on using the wastebasket to temporarily store any items I’m in the process of reviewing instead of for trash. Then headed over to socks where there was a large assortment of brands including
Remember last year when Lady Gaga was named Creative Director, Brand Ambassador, and the ‘new face’ of Polaroid and everyone thought it was just some publicity stunt to get the otherwise bankrupt cult favorite back on it’s feet?
Well, as it turns out pop star was hard at work on the Polaroid Grey Label, a line of products that includes the GL20 Camera Glasses. Now how’s this for innovative? The sunglasses have a
Tonight, I attended a group meditation session lead by renowned spiritual counselor and Shadows On The Path author, Adbi Assadi. I’ve written about Abdi in the past, he was one of the panelists at Norma Kamali’s “Conversations: A Dialogue on Wellness Solutions” seminar I attended at the Museum of Modern Art.
The session began with us using sage to smudge away negative energy on another member of the class; followed by Adbi leading us in a through a meditation sequence. I had a very rough week –I was out of commission due to an injury (hence I’ve a little quiet recently) and it felt really good to finally get out today and be apart of something so relaxing and mind opening.
