Farah Angsana Fall 2012 Runway Show

Farah Angsana brought the glam and sophistication of gala worthy, red-carpet gowns for her Fall 2012 fashion show. I got moved up to front row, which is always an amazing experience although especially appreciated for Farah since I got to see every detail and bounce in the fabric as the models flowed down the runway. Plus it makes for way better pictures!

This year, I like how Farah incorporated both short and long versions of many of the dresses she created –It just makes it more wearable for a lot of us that are lacking occasions worthy of long gown attire. The most moving part of the collection was the reaction the audience took to the finale dress. The gasps enough made it newsworthy as the model whisked down the runway in this strapless electric purple number that despite showing a decent amount of skin was so absolutely unique and elegant.

Enjoy the collection for yourself, I couldn’t resist the urge to film it and share it with all of you!

Norma Kamali Cut Out for Fall 2012: OMO and KamaliKulture Presentation

Norma Kamali at her Fall 2012 presentation

The most unexpected Fall 2012 fashion week presentation award goes to Norma Kamali. She generally has as an innovative angle to every show — or really anything she does. Usually, it’s some type of digital or social media angle, however this time it was something completely different and unexpected…  Jumbo faux cut-out models instead of live models. Then on opposite ends there were projections of the models wearing the clothes and dancing around.

Showcasing both her Fall 2012 OMO collection on one side and her new KamaliKulture (priced under $100!) on the other. While artistically I loved the installation and ambiance of the room. I found it a little challenging to really examine the clothes. Naturally, considering they were made out of paper (or plastic?) –but for me so much of these presentations is getting to see the fabric and how it moves on a live body.

That said, I’ll just have to wait for Fall 2012 like the rest of the world to get up close and personal with the collection.

NAHM Presents Pretty Vintage Inspired F/W 2012 Collection

The room was buzzing as the grand piano played at the presentation for NAHM, the line of Alexandra Hilfiger (daughter of you know who) and Nary Manivong.  In it’s second season the duo presented a collection of boxy dresses with drop waist skirts, delicate blouses with ruffle trim, skirts with varying hemlines, in modern, youthful cuts.

Looking to the past, the duo took their inspiration from the 20’s and ancient Egypt. It was a strong showing and I loved the hieroglyphic print dresses, featuring tiny ancient Egyptians engaging in very modern activities: trimming hedges with giant shears, toting shopping bags, cruising on skateboards. The shoes, contrast platforms in coordinating prints, and black suede, were a great addition to the look.

Vintage-centic NAHM featured a “Sugared Neutral” nail with pink undertones. This color was custom blended by CND‘s Angi Wingle, but can be recreated at home by layering CND Colour in Desert Suede with one coat of CND Colour in Marshmallow Rose, topped with CND Super Matte Top Coat. Strong nude nails looked flawless with minty green wingtipped eyes by MAC and glamorous ’20s ‘dos by Aveda amidst punchy plum and eclectic green patterned fabrics.

Happy 10yr Anniversary Oasis Day Spa + V-Day Specials

For the past 10yrs Oasis Day Spa has been a hidden gem, nestled in the basement of it’s Park Avenue location. Quiet, tranquil and private (adjectives you rarely associate with NYC), it’s like my dream bat cave, and a perfect afternoon retreat to shut out the world and bask in some much needed pampering. I celebrated their 10th birthday with a facial! Oasis Day Spa is one of the few locations that I have found that uses CosMedix; which is a highly efficacious, advanced cosmeceutical line, that just so happens to be my mother’s favorite skincare line (and she’s a very picky woman). If you’re in need of a facial and looking for someone to tell it like it is and give you the best advice for YOUR skin, ask for Evelyn! She’s lovely and so knowledgeable. If you’re looking for

Amazing Chops: Patrick Melville Salon Giveaway!

Under any other circumstances, if I was going to have my haircut by someone as experienced and sought after as celebrity stylist and co-owner of his namesake salon, Patrick Melville, I would probably spend half my morning styling it just to feel qualified enough to be in his presence and call myself a beauty blogger.  It goes along the same principle of those who clean their apartment before the cleaning person arrives.

Fortunately thanks to being an Aveeno ambassador, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Patrick on a several occasions (he consults on their haircare line). There’s something so welcoming and laid back about his personality that I felt completely comfortable (although slightly embarrassed) to refrain from putting my best hair forward, and checked my vanity at the door. In fact, I wanted it to be completely natural — product free — down to the last flyaway and split end so he could assess the best way to cut it, and advice me on how to maintain it.

The good news was, Patrick validated that there’s no reason for me to stray from my natural black color or abandon my long locks. Alas, I am not meant for short hair. However my dry ends needed to go, and my layers were in desperate need of fixing — I’m still recovering from a bad haircut I received in Portland last year (I knew I shouldn’t have trusted a hair salon that serves beer in the waiting room). And despite being capable of remarkable shine when my hair is healthy and happy, it gets desperately dry, especially on the ends and during the winter months.

Patrick used Kerastase Elixir in my hair to help restore some hydration and recommended I add an oil or comparable product to my hair regime. He also insisted I leave a little leave-in conditioner on the tips of my hair for added moisture, and to help keep the ends healthy.

Skimming only a few inches off the length, Patrick Edward Scissorhanded his way into giving my hair more texture and evened out my layers. By the time he was through, my hair was so much healthier and unbelievably soft and shiny!

When I left the salon, I looked like I was walking off the set of a hair commercial; which I was grateful for considering it lasted 3 days and I had a calendar full of press events to attend. Not having to worry about my hair was the biggest time-saver, not to mention I’ve never received so many compliments on my hair by some of NYC’s top bloggers.  Instant ego-boost, vanity in check!

ENTER TO WIN THE GREAT MAKEUNDER: Are you or someone you know, in need of a change?  If so, nominate them (or yourself!) for a chance to win a cut and color ($260 value) from Patrick Melville Salon! Tell the salon in 250 words or less why you or your nominee deserves to win by February 10th, using one of these methods:

The winner must be available during the week of February 13-17th to come in for their cut and color. For more details on this giveaway, visit the Patrick Melville Salon & Spa blog: RinseReadRepeat.com. Good luck!

Kmart returns to NYFW to solve your #fashionweekproblems and partners with Chrissie Miller of Sophomore

Chrissie Miller modeling her Kmart design

Kmart has become quite the fashionista! You may remember from last years New York Fashion Week seasons, Kmart developed a concierge program where elite fashion week goers could tweet them @kmartfashion, with their #fashionweekproblems (using that hashtag) and promptly be delivered a care package of solutions. We’re talking mascara, chapstick, tights, hair elastics, Dr. Scholls flats! In the name of fashion emergencies, if there was a problem, Kmart had the solution! And did I mention it was free? And, yes considering how accident prone I am (or just plain forgetful), I took full advantage of their services.

Good news fellow fashion week friends, next week Kmart’s concierge service returns for New York Fashion Week! And they have partnered with SOPHOMORE designer, Chrissie Miller to design a limited edition shirt that will be worn by the Kmart representative delivering your goodies. And although the shirt is not for sale, it will be offered as a gift with purchase (while supplies last) at SOPHOMORE’s 143 Ludlow Street, location. I was lucky enough to snag a tee at the shirts unveiling event and peaked some of this years menu offerings for the concierge program; which included Emergen-C, Colgate Wisps, COVERGIRL mascara, FIGI water, Coconut water, elastics, bobby pins, chapstick and more.

Note to self: Don’t forget to tweet my #fashionweekproblems to @kmartfashion.
