Where Did You Go Louis Boston?

R.I.P Louis Boston Newbury St. Location

Growing up, Louis Boston was everything that exemplified high-end fashion. Great clothes, quality products and an iconic location residing in a historic building on Boston’s Newbury Street. The interior was beyond classy, and they even had a restaurant called Boston Public. Despite barely being able to afford anything in it, it was really a very special store; one I’d marvel at similarly to a museum with an exceptional fashion exhibit–all year round. This past trip to Boston I made it a point to stop by and low and behold it’s completely abandoned *heart break*.

You were once the greatest location ever, now you're a parking lot:(

After some further investigation it would appear Louis is not lost, just moved. But still, I would like to take a moment and reflect on the store that once was.

Reporting From Boston: Louis Vuitton Je t’aime

Spotted: Amazing Louis Vuitton bag

I was invited to Boston for a few days, so I seized the opportunity to work-from-awesome-hotel (The Collanade!) and clear my head. NY, I love you but we need a few days apart.  My hotel’s location is so absolutely perfect, that I’ve been pretending that I live here. (Did I mention I’m originally from the Boston area and my parents live all of 15minute away?). I know, super lame.

I woke up early this morning walked across the street to Copley Place, grabbed a tea and did a little window shopping. I had to go before the shops opened out of fear-or-bank-account-withdrawal.

The highlight was this amazing Louis Vuitton bag. Le drool. I can’t find it on their website so I can’t offer any additional details — I even searched under “Best bag ever!”.  LV, what gives?

Friday Night At The Darby

The Darby
With my Frenchie!

From the same owners as 1 OAK and Butter, Scott Sartiano and Richie Akiva opened the new supper club, The Darby. I have to say I didn’t have high expectations for the restaurant. I read some review on Eater where a guy went there and was charged $2 extra for getting his drink on the rocks. When the website asked the GM for the explanation he said,

“Drinks with ice get a bigger pour…We charge more because we use more alcohol for a drink served with ice. We’re not charging for the ice…Clearly, this person doesn’t go out much and doesn’t know how things work.”

That basically translated to me as this is a totally douche restaurant that wants to be sceney and needs to get over itself. Needless to say it wasn’t my first choice, but I had a friend in town from France and was not going to miss out on the welcome dinner.

Before even stepping foot in The Darby, I received an email confirmation for my party of 8 saying “On Friday and Saturday evenings, a $25 per person Entertainment Fee is added to all Guest checks.”  Reading this only drilled my original suspicion in further.  Here’s the thing, places like The Darby in

CoupTessa Fools Day

ConTessa April Fools Day joke

Happy April friends! Yesterday, I woke to an email from a friend with the subject line “Jimmy Choos”? And inside was a link to daily deal site, CoupTessa for $5 for the designer shoes from Jimmy Choo, Christian Louboutin, Manolo Blahnik & more (Value $1200, Save $1195). A deal too good to be true? Yes, it was a big whopping April Fools joke, and I for once didn’t fall for it—I emailed my friend back saying it was a prank. Although a part of me was going to feel really stupid if I was wrong. What gave it away for me was the ‘unlimited coupons per customer’ part. I think had they said 1/per customer it would have been more realistic and hilarious since everyone would be calling all their friends, family and going nuts to get even more pairs.

That evening I received a press release about the occurrence and I was right! Apparently their phones were ringing off the hook all morning and everyone had a good laugh out of it, especially the subscribers themselves. Definitely my kind of prank –funny but not harmful or embarrassing. I have to give it to CoupTessa, that was a good one and considering how much the deal circulated and a really brilliant marketing campaign.

Happy Birthday Daniel Vosovic

Last month Daniel Vosovic celebrated the showing of his Fall 2011 RTW collection and today we celebrate his birthday.

Fun fact: Dan and I went to college together –good ol’ Fashion Institute of Technology. And we were RA’s –people love making fun of me for that tidbit (my favorite ex-boyfriend used to refer to this time as “when I was a hall monitor”). I’d shower this post with old photographs but frankly I think I burned them all. Since our college days, the former Project Runway star, has gone on to write a book (it’s in my fashion library–okay fine, it’s bookcase) and successfully launch many collections and I could not be prouder. I get to follow him behind this year attend his RTW show. What really enhanced the experience is being seated next to another former RA with us –Marissa, the Market Editor for Seventeen reunions. It’s amazing how much changes in just a couple-errr, more-than-a-few years.

Check out the video from his Fall 2011 RTW Show:

Happy Birthday Dan! Cheers to you!

Elizabeth Taylor, RIP

Actress, Elizabeth Taylor passed away today at the age of 79 of congestive heart failure. One of last great MGM stars that not only lived but also encompassed all that was Hollywood glamor. Beautiful and talented, Elizabeth Taylor was an icon in so many ways. She won two Oscars, was named 7th on the Fernale Legends list by the American Film Institute, married 8 times, and launched one of the first celebrity fragrances –who can forget her voice in the white diamonds commercial saying, “these have always brought me luck”.

RIP Elizabeth Taylor. In so many ways it feels like the end of an era. You will be missed!

Backstage at Honor Fall 2011 Show (plus video of the runway show)

By Heather Wilson, Guest Blogger and Fashion Week Correspondent

“I kept looking back to a moment with my grandmother in a department store. There was a gumball machine that I wanted, but the only one left was housed in a box that was a bit damaged. The idea of something slightly distressed, but still beautiful intrigued me. The colors are warm – there’s a 70s sensibility but in an American sportswear way, ” said designer, Giovanna Randall for her inspiration for the Honor Fall 2011 collection.

James Pecis of Bumble and bumble and lead hair stylist for the show was going for a look that was “light, fluffy, with static fly away hair”. Using all Bumble and bumble products, he began by using Thickening Spray, to help give the hair body and lift for when he blew out the style. Once the hair was curled, he kept the curl soft, and moveable with the Spray de Mode Hairspray.

The other two other must have products to always have on hand for a perfectly styled look is Bumble and bumble’s Surf Spray and Texture Cream. They give your hair that “second day after washing your hair look, and holdability,” said Pecis.

The look for the show was finished off with a makeup look designed by NARS Cosmetics International Lead Makeup Artist James Boehmer. “The look is very punky, sort of like a London ‘club kid,’ but there’s a romantic

I Partied With Charlie Sheen…actually it was Richie Rich!

The picky girl in me wishes this was a burnout, rocker, v-neck tee (that looks like it had partied all night with Charlie Sheen), but that doesn’t negate from the hilarity of the messaging.

And amidst all the Charlie Sheen controversy Jac Vanek is genius for creating this t-shirt. Do you realize how many people joined twitter alone just to follow Charlie Sheen’s tweets? Okay, neither do I, but it’s a lot! The  limited edition ‘I PARTIED WITH CHARLIE SHEEN’ t-shirt ($24) is available in Small, Medium, or Large Adult unisex sizes. To pre-order yours, visit JacVanek.com

Rachael Szporn, Lara Eurdolian (me!), Richie Rich

Speaking of partying last night, I did with designer, Richie Rich at The Fifth Annual Texas Hold’Em Poker Night to benefit The Children’s Storefront (check them out, they’re amazing!). While the rest of the room was gambling, we we’re busy sitting on chairs we shouldn’t have sat on, doing tequila shots I’d rather forget, dancing by ourselves and having the loveliest time. Although I expect it’s next to impossible not to have a great time with Richie Rich– he’s so welcoming and fun oriented. He loves his glitter and I love him. Now how do I get an ‘I Partied with Richie Rich’ t-shirt? Preferably one with lots and lots of glitter?

Richie Rich

Cheers to you Richie Rich, thank you for making my night!
