Last night I hosted a 90s party in celebration of three-night miniseries The ’90s: The Last Great Decade? premiering this Sunday, July 6 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on the National Geographic Channel. Our friends at the network sent us an advanced copy and some fun 90s merchandise (gushers anyone?) and I invited the ladies over and hosted a viewing party (dressing up 90s style was mandatory).
I used to be one of those people that cut their hair every 3 months. That’s what I was told you had to do to keep your ends healthy and for it to grow. Well not so surprisingly my hair would make it to my signature length of 3-4 inches past my shoulders and then stop. Highly frustrating! As was every stylists obsession with giving me layers. Here’s the thing, I have a thin hair but I have a lot of it which is easy for people to mistake as being thick and big.
Secondly, my hair is curly and when layers get involved sh!t gets crazy and for the person who has to maintain it on a daily basis, it’s not fun. Yes, it looks amazing while I’m at the salon but past that I have to really work with it. So fast forward to my waiting 8 months for a haircut (I was deep conditioning my roots like a crazy person to pro-long the cut), I was invited to Ryan Darius Salon for a cut. I’ve met Ryan on a few occasions and used to go to his salon for blow-outs before the whole drybar/dreamdry kick, and enjoy the atmosphere, and prime location. Nestled on a quiet street blocks from Union Square, there are only a few chairs in the salon so it’s very private. For me getting my haircut is not a fashion show; I love an intimate, peaceful atmosphere where I can hear my stylist and have an actual conversation without people watching and music blaring.

One of my favorite NYC sanctuaries, Oasis Spa recently got a makeover at their One Park Avenue Flagship location. A perfect place to take some time for yourself and unwind, the award-winning spa, deemed “Best of New York” and “Best of Westchester,” continues to remain true to their core values of providing luxury spa services and relaxation at affordable prices. The spa has undergone a complete restorative makeover, and while the ambience has changed for a more modern and luxurious feel, and are incorporating new extensions to their quality services, their prices have remained the same.
Since attending Buxom’s Speakeasy event last week, I’ve had so much fun experimenting with the line. Prior to the event I was only really familiar with their lipsticks and mascara — which is to be expected, they rule those categories. Well apparently I missed the memo on their blushes, BB Creams, cream eye shadows and a whole slew of other products. I listed some of my favorites (thus far) in last weeks post. Earlier this month I took part in what could be my favorite photo shoot yet! Sure I’ve been in campaigns for major magazines like Elle and Lucky, and soon to be Cosmo! (Check out my latest one with Nair!) but nothing toped the Head & Shoulders experience.

When it comes to curing dry hair, Neutrogena is at the top of my list! To date their Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask is the best I’ve ever used and a staple in my bathroom. I have a self proclaimed dry mullet. I’m literally normal to oily in the front and utter dryness in the back. So when Neutrogena launched their newest haircare collection, Triple Repair which consists of a Fortifying Shampoo, Fortifying Conditioner and Fortifying Leave-In Treatment, I was all over it. It’s formulated to make hair 3x’s stronger and clinically proven to instantly repair the three leading signs of hair damage, it helps mends split ends, strengthen brittle hair, and protect from new hair breakage.
I have an ombre so I use the shampoo on my scalp; I keep the conditioner off my roots and focus it on my ends and they after towel drying I add in the leave-in treatment about four inches away from my scalp working it down to my ends. Since this line is all about hair repair dry, and mending dry, damaged locks (as in if you have shiny, healthy hair it’s not for you!), I had my (un-naturally) bleach blonde bombshell roommate test it out with me. Here’s what I figured out: the more damaged your hair is (whether it’s heat, chlorine, sun, or hair coloring damage), the more you will love it! Or rather the more drastic the results.
