Heather Thomson and Yummie Tummie at Curve NYC

Curve Expo NYC was hosted at the Javits Center in NYC to showcase designers’ Spring/Summer 2013 lingerie and swimwear lines. And like any major trade show, it can be overwhelming if you don’t know what you’re looking for, so I headed straight to the booth of shapewear expert, Heather Thomson, founder of Yummie Tummie and the newest cast member of the Real Housewives of New York.

The history and concept behind Yummie Tummie can be traced back to the birth of Heather’s first child. She began searching for shapewear that was comfortable, but also styles that made her feel sexy, or “yummie”, at the same time. Unimpressed with what she found in stores, Heather took it upon herself to design a line that would make every woman feel her absolute best at all times. “Fashion and function” are not typically words spoken in the same sentence, but Heather succeeded in changing the concept

The Future of Fashion: Tech Edition

I wouldn’t consider myself “techie” per se, but after attending last week’s Future of Fashion event, (which is part of the Emerging Startup Series held at Projective Space), there are several tech/app start-up companies that are now on my radar.

Several founders presented their creations to a crowd and high profile panelists, who included Steven Alan, fashion designer (@Steven_Alan), Philippe von Borries, Co-Founder of Refinery29 (@refinery29), and Keegan Vance Forte, Chief of Staff at AOL Ventures (@keeganforte). If you’re into fashion and keep up with current trends, here are some apps you should check out:

Cloth – If you’re that girl who posts outfit pics, then take note. The app allows you to snap a pic and keep track of what you wore and how you wore it, while connecting you to social media sites so you can get feedback from friends and fans. The best part is the creators recently started collaborating with wunderground.com so you can get real time weather data – these two sites working together means real time advice as to what outfits you should and should not wear for the current conditions! Follow @clothapp and visit clothapp.com for more information.

Bazaart – Pinterest meets scrapbooking with this creative and fun app. The idea behind it is a user-generated fashion catalogue. Users can shop while making art. This allows for each person to make personal shopping

Beach Bag Essentials: Top products to have on your radar

Whether you’re planning a trip to the beach, a lake or Central Park, there’s some key don’t-leave-home-without products that make the leisure day in the sun that much better. And with summer in full swing here are some of our top beach bag picks!

Morning routine: Start fresh!

1. Rembrant Deeply White Toothpaste – It’s an all-in-one fluoride toothpaste with Active Dental Peroxide that helps safely whiten below the enamel to remove deep and surface stains. I like that it offers a deep whitening without being too strong and makes for a pleasant brushing experience. The packaging is simple and clean and aesthetically looks great in my bathroom along with it’s Deeply White Mouthwash counterpart (which I also use). At 2.6oz, it’s big enough for your bathroom and yet small enough that it fits comfortably in most makeup cases if you’re on the go and need an afternoon freshen up.

2. Degree NaturEffects deodorant– With temperatures hitting close to 90 degrees do everyone a favor (including yourself) and apply! I use the orange flower + cranberry scent which smells lovely. As both an anti-perspirant & deodorant in one, it keeps me dry and is offers long-lasting protection. Plus it goes on smooth and has never given my clothes a single mark.

The gear!

3. THE BAG! People often use weekender bags interchangeably with beach bags and unless you’re packing for the whole fam that can get a little bulky (plus the bigger a bag, the more you’ll fill it with stuff you don’t need). I opt for the L.L.Bean Boat and Tote bag in size medium ($33.95). Opting for a size smaller then the weekender makes the bag much more comfortable to hold while still guaranteeing room for all your beach essentials.

VS launches new Body by Victoria and Love My Body collection angel style!

This morning I awoke to perfect weather, a gorgeous roof top, and supermodels and indulged in some yoga (poolside), polished off by a mid-morning massage. If only the next line of this post read “welcome to my life.” (A girl can dream…) This is in fact not my general routine — I’m not a morning person — however, when Angels, are involved, anything is possible!

And by Angels, I mean Victoria’s Secret supermodels Candice Swanepoel and Bregie Heinen. With the Angels on hand, Victoria’s Secret introduced my fellow editors and I to the NEW Body by Victoria bra collection which features vibrant colors and new lace in their Demi, Push-Up, Perfect Coverage, and Front-Close Razorback bra styles. As an extension of the collection, VS Beauty launched the Body by Victoria fragrance as the perfect compliment to the lingerie.

MARNI WINTER EDITION 2012 EYEWEAR COLLECTION

Wohooo! Behold the MARNI WINTER EDITION 2012 EYEWEAR COLLECTION! I want to ride in the back of a classic convertible car, scarf around my neck and these glasses on my face! Look at the construction and originality of each unique pair!  The main feature of the collection is the contrast between opaque and shiny used for a flower motif on relief in the upper part of the frame.
The opaline and watery colors range from bright green, pink, yellow and red to sand and brown, while temples are in contrasting solid colors.

THE MARNI WINTER EDITION 2012 EYEWEAR COLLECTION is available at all MARNI boutiques, and at www.marni.com

Stella & Dot Fall Collection

Earlier this week, I peaked the new fall collection for Stella & Dot and it’s totally glam! SO many fun statement pieces and a perfect mix of delicate everyday necklaces and big, bold, compliment-worthy items.

First off, here are my favorites: layering necklaces (especially the thin arrow “On The Mark” one, which previously was only available in gold and now comes in silver), the large woven “Tempest Necklace” that combines a steel chain, brass cupchain, distressed black acrylic stones and silk ribbon! The complementary bracelets in similar form (although I wouldn’t wear the two together — it’s a little too matchy matchy unless you’re wearing a very simple, preferably strapless dress). And the the rock-glam “Lillith Fringe” dangly earrings are high on my list!

PickN’Tell Welcomes you to the Future of Shopping

Fashionistas, rejoice! On July 16th, PickN’Tell was launched as an exciting way to make your shopping experience more interactive. Whether you’re perusing the streets of Soho, or in the comfort of your own home, you can use this app to shop, find the best deals, create and share wish lists, or give and receive feedback on that cute new outfit you recently saw in store.

How it works: retail stores can install interactive mirrors with unique codes that, when connected with a smart phone, allow shoppers to take pictures of themselves in an outfit and forward it to their friends via text or Facebook from the mirror itself. For the stores that don’t have the mirror installed, the app allows you to use your camera phone to upload pictures and videos directly to the main site and get instant feedback from your PickN’Tell network!

For more information visit the PickN’Tell website, and download the app for free on your smart phone. Happy shopping!
