After announcing their partnership with actor and musician Bryan Greenberg (star of HBO’s “How To Make It In America”) at a recent press conference, Casio celebrated the official launch of their new men’s watch line, Edifice Black Label.

The collection is comprised of six styles ranging in price from $150 to $500. Sleek and functional, these water resistant, multifunction metal analog watches are equipped with stopwatch capabilities, LSI-controlled hand movements, world time, daily alarms, solar power and multi-layered dials.

Hosted at the Tourneau TimeMachine store in NYC, I caught up with Bryan Greenberg for a chat about his latest endeavor. Our conversation went

Rally to Restore Insanity and/or Fear

Over Halloween weekend, I took the train to Washington, DC for Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert’s  ‘Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear’; which was pure  insanity (in a good way). I don’t think Colbert or Stewart knew their own strength when organizing the rally, so unfortunately there weren’t enough monitors or strong enough audio to really understand what was going on stage.  Even so, it was incredibly inspiring to hear their muffled voices over

Birthday Bliss

Lara's 27th Birthday Celebration at SPiN New York

I’m not a very big birthday person. I used to be when I was younger; my mom would stress out over what to do for me ‘since nothing was ever good enough’.  I supposed I just wanted to feel special on my big day, although looking back that’s pretty funny.  Then again it did make for some very memorable birthdays.

This year I had mixed feelings about even celebrating; however after traveling most of the summer I realized it was the perfect excuse to just invite everyone I haven’t seen in months and whoever showed showed, whoever didn’t, no big deal. It fell on a Tuesday so I wasn’t expecting a crazy turnout anyways.

Considering it was my day and I get to do whatever I wanted, it came as no surprise to most that I decided to have it the ping pong social club/bar, SPiN. I wanted to do something fun and low key that didn’t require a lot of planning, had a bar and served food. And the best part about SPiN is how spacious it is (and I never have to worry about feeling too crowded whether I have 10 or 100 guests). Plus the owners Franck and Jon are practically my brothers, so it

Gilt Groupe Wedding Shop – Starts Today!

Calling all brides! Today at noon Gilt Groupe is launching a wedding sale. Unlike their regular 1-day sales, this event will last until midnight on Sunday, 10/24 with a different theme everyday.  If you’re planning a wedding, or even in one (that’s me! proud bridesmaid to be), you’re probably well aware of all the expenses associated with both and that it’s hard to skimp for your big day.  So at up to 60% off, Gilt has you covered.

As a side note: all you guests attending the wedding, check out the Michael Aram selection on the last day of the sale (10/24). I’m so fond of his work and aesthetic. In my opinion, his pieces truly make the perfect wedding present.

Here’s the official schedule:

Boston’s MFA features Avedon and Scaasi

Dovima with Elephants

Fresh off the plane from San Francisco, I had an eventful week in Boston between the Catwalk for a Cure breast cancer awareness event and Natural Products Expo East trade show featuring keynote speaker Alicia Silverstone (I’ll post more on both experiences shortly). For now, as a museum and fashion enthusiast I want to talk about two great exhibits currently being showcased at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston: Avedon Fashion 1944-2000 (on display from Aug 10, 2010 – Jan 17, 2011) and Scaasi: American Couturier (on display from September 25 2010 – Jun 19, 2011).

Photographs by Richard Avedon

Avedon Fashion 1944-2000 – I first saw this exhibit last year, when it was on display at the ICP in NY. It doesn’t get old with time. Richard Avendon’s work is both iconic as you walk the decades of his peices and breath taking in his muses, the scenery and of course the fashion in his photography.  Don’t miss this opportunity to see Dovima with Elephants, amongst so many more classics.

By Arnold Scassi

Scassi: American Couturier – I wasn’t so familiar with Arnold Scassi’s designs when I walked into the exhibit. However, with all of his prestige over so

Haut’e MusiQ: A Night of Fashion & MusiQ charity event

Design by Phuong My

On behalf of Shoes, Shirts & Other Sh!t blog, I had the pleasure of attending and sitting front row at Haut’e MusiQ: A Night of Fashion & MusiQ charity event in San Francisco. Hosted at the Slide Lounge (yes, although closed off for the evening there was actually a slide at the club), all proceeds from the fundraiser benefited the American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter for San Bruno Fire Relief.

Design by PACE Clothing

Models from labels Phuong My (who participated in Fashion Night Out at Macys in SF & NYC) , Kaatje Designs and PACE Clothing (available at Urban Outfitters) walked the runway garnished in rose petals. And in celebration of

Conversations with Norma Kamali

Thursday, I joined fashion designer Norma Kamali for the kicked off of her wellness series, “Conversations: A Dialogue on Wellness Solutions” at the Museum of Modern Art. “The planet we live on is not like it was at any other time. In order to survive fast food farming technology and the toxic environment, we must face our problems head on with practical solutions,” said Kamali. Change doesn’t happen over night but by educating her piers and spreading awareness we can all work together for a solution. So in front of a live audience, she showed a movie featuring two-minute conversations with notable experts in fitness, health, beauty and nutrition. Followed by a panel discussion and Q&A session.

Honored guests included choreographer, Twyla Tharp, founder of Aveda and Intelligent Nutrients skin care, Horst Rechelbacher, spiritual counselor and author of “Shadows On the Path”, Abdi Assadi, filmmaker of “Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead”, Joe Cross, vegan and raw food chef, Chef Matteo, and more (Nancy Shaw, Magen Banwart, Dr. David Colbert and Physique 57).

I thought over all the speeches we’re good. The highlight for me was Twyla Tharp telling the audience the most important thing is “to just move, our bodies just want to move”. Anyone who’s ever been through a rough patch knows how easy it is to emotionally give up and just not want to get out of bed. Ultimately, the only cure for that and to turn your life around in any capacity is to move.  Sometimes, it’s the simple things that we need reminding of. I could stand to start moving a little earlier in the morning.

I’ve also thought a lot about Abdi Assadi saying “everybody has a piece of the puzzle… no one person has the answer”, which is so true. I remember reading an article about actor Adrian Grenier, saying something along the lines of his biggest fear is all of his environmental initiatives have made no impact on the planet. For some reason that really stuck with me.  Can you imagine if
