As most of you TOMS Shoes as the do-gooder shoe company where for every pair purchased, a new pair is donated to a child in need of shoes.
How does going a day without shoes make a difference?
Through change! And it gives us just a very, very, very, microscopic taste of what children in developing countries go through barefoot for miles to go to school, get clean water and medical help.

Tucked away in the basement of Lavo, John Frieda hosted a private screening for the premiere of his short film “The Decision” starring Katie Holmes. While guests got settled inside, the red carpet was buzzing with excitement and as fans gathered outside to catch a glimpse of Katie Holmes, and other high-profile guests including several of the NY Housewives, Tinsly Mortimer and Julie Benz.
First off Katie Holmes is stunning. I was at the bottom of the stairs checking my coat as she walked in all tall and lanky with this amazing white blazer and black pants on looking so tasteful and natural. Her hair in was down in loose curls and her skin was glowing. Shortly after she was seated, Elle’s Creative director, Joe Zee gave a short speech and introduction to the film. I was expecting Holmes to say a few words, however other
Shave in the front, party in the back? I really don’t have words for this hairdo, although it’s very rare I find anything this original. Highlight of my Tuesday night!
You may have noticed some recent updates on my site, one of which is my fancy new AVEENO/Recyclebank partnership badge. Well I have some exciting news, I’ve been asked to be a RecycleBank and AVEENO Ambassador!!! I’m one of 25 hand picked bloggers to receive this honor and as a result I’ll have access to products, events, and the inside scoop on both these great companies to share with you.
Part of my Ambassador perks (I love saying that!) was an all-expense paid trip to LA to cover this year’s Independent Spirit Awards. Unfortunately, I had a wedding that day (I REALLY love the bride), so I had to turn it down. Fortunately, I was still accepted into the program and as of this week had my first orientation.
If you’re not familiar with RecycleBank, you should check them out. They are all about motivating people to take actions that have a positive environmental influence by offering rewards for individuals making greener choices.

“I kept looking back to a moment with my grandmother in a department store. There was a gumball machine that I wanted, but the only one left was housed in a box that was a bit damaged. The idea of something slightly distressed, but still beautiful intrigued me. The colors are warm – there’s a 70s sensibility but in an American sportswear way, ” said designer, Giovanna Randall for her inspiration for the Honor Fall 2011 collection.
James Pecis of Bumble and bumble and lead hair stylist for the show was going for a look that was “light, fluffy, with static fly away hair”. Using all Bumble and bumble products, he began by using Thickening Spray, to help give the hair body and lift for when he blew out the style. Once the hair was curled, he kept the curl soft, and moveable with the Spray de Mode Hairspray.
The other two other must have products to always have on hand for a perfectly styled look is Bumble and bumble’s Surf Spray and Texture Cream. They give your hair that “second day after washing your hair look, and holdability,” said Pecis.
The look for the show was finished off with a makeup look designed by NARS CosmeticsInternational Lead Makeup Artist James Boehmer. “The look is very punky, sort of like a London ‘club kid,’ but there’s a romantic

I have a sweet spot for Jason Wu, not only because he’s brilliant, but also because I had the honor of attending his first runway show back in 2006; when Fashion Week was held at Bryant Park and he was the new kid on the blog. I don’t remember every detail from the show, only that I walked in not knowing who he was, and walked out with an ever-lasting impression of his work. So in 2009, when Michelle Obama choose to wear Wu for her inaugural gown, it felt like such a warranted success. I haven’t been to his show since, so I felt very fortunate enough to be able to cover his Fall/Winter 2011 fashion collection and share it will all of you!

For this collection, Jason Wu was inspired by the photographs taken by Robert Polidori in his book “Parcours Museologique Revister,” which documented the restoration of Versailles. As you will notice from the video (posted below), his show began with more traditional sportswear; tailored pants, and jackets then segues into evening wear, before the grand finale of this long, bright pink, silk chiffon strapless gown. While the strong change in silhouette, palette and fabrication would generally make this collection not feel so cohesive, it was the progression of his clothing and the accents of embroidery and lace he embedded within the pieces that really converged it all together. I also really like this little, black, feminine bow-tie he’s introduced.
Makeup by MAC, Nails by CND
What always stands out about Jason Wu is his attention to detail. His ability to carry over this baroque theme went beyond the clothing. We saw it in the hair, makeup, nails—all the way to the stage. He had this incredible custom runway, which looked like antique mirrors.
Roxanne Valinoti for CND created the nails for the runway show. She fashioned a gold gilded burgundy manicure using two coats of CND Dark Ruby layered with one coat of Bloodline, and gilded with Gold Chrome on the tips. To create this look at home, simply put the Gold Chrome shade on first, then apply those French Manicure stickers on the tips and paint over it with the remaining colors. Then peel the sticker off to reveal the gold tips and voila!

These manicures matched the burgundy shoes we saw on the runway and complimented the slicked back twisted low ponytails (with a flash of gold leaf accent) hair look created by Odile for Aveda.
As for the makeup, the look was created by Diane Kendal for M.A.C. Cosmetics, I mean look at this gorgeous intense gold highlighted, deeply shadowed
Lara with Miles Ehan and his Inspiration Board for Three Custom Color
You may have noticed that I (and some fellow beauty bloggers) were tweeting up a storm recently at a tweet up hosted by one of my favorite bloggers, Felicia Walker Benson of ThisThatBeaty.com. We were celebrating the launch of the Sweetest Thing collection by Three Custom Color Specialists, inspired by up-and-coming fashion designer Miles Ehan, who designs gowns using unconventional materials. And in this case appropriately yummy ones like cotton candy and cupcake wrappers!
Some of you may be familiar with Three Custom Color for their unique ability to offer customers custom colors –or to re-create discontinued beauty product from any brand on the market. You just have to provide them with a sample! In addition to that ridiculously practical and helpful service, they also have a color line, which now includes the Sweetest Thing collection, just
A few months ago I posted an announcement that NARS Cosmetics was opening their first flagship boutique in Spring 2011; and now I’m excited to share their official opening date of February 10th. It would appear they are opening ahead of schedule! The store will be located in NYC’s West Village at 413 Bleecker Street.
The “NARS 413 BLKR” ad campaign (shown above), was conceptualized by Fabien Baron’s team at Baron & Baron. It features NARS Cosmetics first 12 lipsticks that launched with the brand 16 years ago. The open lipstick at the end is Jungle Red.
