10/22: Lancome Unveils Genes Day to Support St. Jude Hospital

Lancome declares October 22nd Genes Day –who knew you could do that? Then again it’s for a great cause, so we endorse it! The day will serve as fundraiser in support of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, with the luxury brand pledging to donate a minimum of $100,000.  Go Lancome!

How are they doing it? With your help! Last year Lancome launched Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate, which I have yet to try but have heard good things. In honor of their claim that the product delivers results in seven days, Lancome is donating $7 from the sale of every bottle to St. Jude on October 22nd.

For anyone who wishes to try the product prior to purchasing, visit a Lancome counter on the 22nd for a complimentary deluxe seven-day sample (no purchase necessary).

With all these 7’s running around, I wonder why

Gilt Groupe Wedding Shop – Starts Today!

Calling all brides! Today at noon Gilt Groupe is launching a wedding sale. Unlike their regular 1-day sales, this event will last until midnight on Sunday, 10/24 with a different theme everyday.  If you’re planning a wedding, or even in one (that’s me! proud bridesmaid to be), you’re probably well aware of all the expenses associated with both and that it’s hard to skimp for your big day.  So at up to 60% off, Gilt has you covered.

As a side note: all you guests attending the wedding, check out the Michael Aram selection on the last day of the sale (10/24). I’m so fond of his work and aesthetic. In my opinion, his pieces truly make the perfect wedding present.

Here’s the official schedule:

Boston’s MFA features Avedon and Scaasi

Dovima with Elephants

Fresh off the plane from San Francisco, I had an eventful week in Boston between the Catwalk for a Cure breast cancer awareness event and Natural Products Expo East trade show featuring keynote speaker Alicia Silverstone (I’ll post more on both experiences shortly). For now, as a museum and fashion enthusiast I want to talk about two great exhibits currently being showcased at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston: Avedon Fashion 1944-2000 (on display from Aug 10, 2010 – Jan 17, 2011) and Scaasi: American Couturier (on display from September 25 2010 – Jun 19, 2011).

Photographs by Richard Avedon

Avedon Fashion 1944-2000 – I first saw this exhibit last year, when it was on display at the ICP in NY. It doesn’t get old with time. Richard Avendon’s work is both iconic as you walk the decades of his peices and breath taking in his muses, the scenery and of course the fashion in his photography.  Don’t miss this opportunity to see Dovima with Elephants, amongst so many more classics.

By Arnold Scassi

Scassi: American Couturier – I wasn’t so familiar with Arnold Scassi’s designs when I walked into the exhibit. However, with all of his prestige over so

Haut’e MusiQ: A Night of Fashion & MusiQ charity event

Design by Phuong My

On behalf of Shoes, Shirts & Other Sh!t blog, I had the pleasure of attending and sitting front row at Haut’e MusiQ: A Night of Fashion & MusiQ charity event in San Francisco. Hosted at the Slide Lounge (yes, although closed off for the evening there was actually a slide at the club), all proceeds from the fundraiser benefited the American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter for San Bruno Fire Relief.

Models from labels Phuong My (who participated in Fashion Night Out at Macys in SF & NYC) , Kaatje Designs and PACE Clothing (available at Urban Outfitters) walked the runway garnished in rose petals. And in celebration of

If you’re going to San Francisco…

I know I keep talking about fall and spring, but truthfully I’m soaking up every last bit of summer and jumped on a flight to sunny San Francisco.  NYC, I love you, but you’re going to have to do something about that rain if you’d like to hold me down.

If you ever find yourself in the bay area, here’s a small list of recommendations.

Dodge Challenger

1. If you need a car, rent a sweet ride. For me that translated to an orange, V8 hemi Dodge Challenger (think modern day Dukes of Hazzard). All that was missing was my daisy dukes (and 001 on the side of the car)!

Domaine Carneros Winery

2. Rev the engine and take that car for a ride! If you like wine, do a day trip to Napa. Ideally find a local friend to recommend some good choices (and drive you). I did and loved Domaine Carneros (I would like to live there) and Duckhorn Winery.

The drive to Santa Cruz

3. If you’re more of a beach enthusiast, drive along the coast to Santa Cruz . Pack a picnic (and good tunes) and enjoy scenic drive.  Don’t forget

NARS Cosmetics Opens its First Store in NYC + Vintage Nail Polish is Back!

Finally! It’s been 16 years since Francois Nars launched NARS Cosmetics, and come Spring 2011 they will open their doors for the brand’s first flagship boutique. The store will be located in the West Village at 413 Bleecker Street, in NYC.

Speaking of NARS, they just brought back their vintage nail polish ($16)! Any of you old school fans remember the colors Mash (army green infused with gold), King Kong (copper infused with gold), Midnight Express (deep navy), Zulu (forest green), or Full Metal Jacket (gunmetal grey)? I do! In fact

Diane von Furstenberg Goes Beauty (Again)

Diane von Furstenberg will re-enter the beauty biz this fall with the launch of a women’s fragrance through her partnership with ID Beauty. The collection will also eventually include a makeup and skin care line.

DVF previously launched a fragrance and color line in the 70s but sold it to British pharmaceutical giant Beecham Group Ltd. in 1983.

I, for one hope this time the fragrance is wearing a wrap-dress (in my size).

Tide Loads of Hope Vintage T-Shirts

I’m generally not one for logo shirts, however I love my new Tide ‘Loads of Hope’ vintage t-shirt –I wear it loud and proud considering it goes to such a worthy cause. Tide ‘Loads of Hope’ program was founded in 2005 in response to Hurricane Katrina to provide clean clothes and help renew a sense of hope to families in New Orleans impacted by the hurricane.  All the profits from the sale of the tees benefit families affected by the natural disaster.  To date, they have washed over 33,000 loads of laundry for more than 22,000 families. Talk about feel good fashion!

They are incredibly soft and comfortable and have a nice fit. I’m generally a small in shirts however I went with the medium since they run tight and I like my shirts long (but still fitted).

Tide ‘Loads of Hope’ tee comes men (SM-XXL) and women’s (SM-XL) sizes in your choice of blue, green, orange, red or yellow. The front of the shirt features the ‘Tide’ logo, and on the back of the shirt reads ‘loads of love’.
