Nicole Miller Now: Fall 2010 Sportswear Collection

Lara with Nicole Miller

Everything changes in a New York minute, one second it seems like summer and the next it’s suddenly fall.  All this talk about Spring 2011, has really postponed my urge to transition my wardrobe for the new season.

Newly back from New Zealond Fashion Week (where she was the guest of honor), I had the pleasure of joining Nicole Miller in her SoHo store for a tour and chat about her latest sportswear collection.

Inspired by New York (the streets, lights, graffiti…), this collection is everything I need to gear up for fall and get back in the NY groove –tight, skinny black pants, flattering flowing tops, and accents of sequence, chains and zippers.

Check it out for yourself! The collection is now available in stores and at NicoleMiller.com

While you’re there, don’t miss the accessories! There are some amazing accent pieces.

Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF with FEED and HSN

FEED Trick-or-Treat Bag for UNICEF ($13.20)

When did it get to be October? Looks like it’s time to get out of summer mode and gear up for Halloween!

While you’re out buying decorations and candy and getting those costumes ready, consider purchasing the new FEED Trick-or-Treat bag ($13.20), now available on HSN.com. Designed by FEED Projects in honor of the 60th anniversary of Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF, HSN is donating 100% of the bags profits to support UNICEF; who in turn will supply a child with essential nutritional supplements for

Pete 90-X Hilarious Work Out Video

I had a tough time getting out of bed earlier. However, inspired by Twyla Tharp’s speech about wellness and how important it is for our bodies to move, I turned to YouTube for some motivation.

My morning workout spoof video is brought to you by a bunch of camp counselors, just having a good time (and yes ladies, get in line, they are all straight).

All laughing aside, I’m legitimately impressed by how in shape these guys are– I mean a two person jump rope, circular jumping jacks, horizontal sit ups, pull up with a person on your chest, synchronized push-ups with their legs intertwined… it’s ridiculous! And don’t even get me started on the solo acts– whatever the dance move the two boys in black spandex and the one in the green neon shirt have going on, I need to practice.

“Now every single day I just want to hear you say, I’m so lucky, lucky, I’m so lovely, lovely…”.

Good morning New York!

Conversations with Norma Kamali

Thursday, I joined fashion designer Norma Kamali for the kicked off of her wellness series, “Conversations: A Dialogue on Wellness Solutions” at the Museum of Modern Art. “The planet we live on is not like it was at any other time. In order to survive fast food farming technology and the toxic environment, we must face our problems head on with practical solutions,” said Kamali. Change doesn’t happen over night but by educating her piers and spreading awareness we can all work together for a solution. So in front of a live audience, she showed a movie featuring two-minute conversations with notable experts in fitness, health, beauty and nutrition. Followed by a panel discussion and Q&A session.

Honored guests included choreographer, Twyla Tharp, founder of Aveda and Intelligent Nutrients skin care, Horst Rechelbacher, spiritual counselor and author of “Shadows On the Path”, Abdi Assadi, filmmaker of “Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead”, Joe Cross, vegan and raw food chef, Chef Matteo, and more (Nancy Shaw, Magen Banwart, Dr. David Colbert and Physique 57).

I thought over all the speeches we’re good. The highlight for me was Twyla Tharp telling the audience the most important thing is “to just move, our bodies just want to move”. Anyone who’s ever been through a rough patch knows how easy it is to emotionally give up and just not want to get out of bed. Ultimately, the only cure for that and to turn your life around in any capacity is to move.  Sometimes, it’s the simple things that we need reminding of. I could stand to start moving a little earlier in the morning.

I’ve also thought a lot about Abdi Assadi saying “everybody has a piece of the puzzle… no one person has the answer”, which is so true. I remember reading an article about actor Adrian Grenier, saying something along the lines of his biggest fear is all of his environmental initiatives have made no impact on the planet. For some reason that really stuck with me.  Can you imagine if

Leila Shams Spring 2011 Collection

Last year (in one of my first posts on this blog!) Leila Shams dazzled us with her use of sequence, fringe and oversized zippers in her premiere collection of super hot party dresses.

This season for her Spring 2011 presentation, while still maintaining her stylish edge Shams took somewhat of a different direction. Inspired by ‘freaks of nature’ (albino peacocks and alligators, and two headed horses and vultures); she mixed more classic, well structured short dresses with very pretty, flowing long ones (and a feathered skirt I’m lusting over).

In a collection that’s effortlessly sexy and oh so flattering, it not only appeased my appetite for mini dresses, but also made me rethink my ban on long dresses in my wardrobe. Plus I think I need more feathers in my life.

Check out the collection below, and

Swarovski Element '22 Ways to Say Black' Event

Monday (20th) – I attended the Swarovski Elements ‘22 Ways to Say Black’ charity auction. Hosted at Phillips de Pury, I registered for a paddle and partook in the auction, although I came home empty handed.  The event raised over $100,000 to benefit breast cancer research. Guests in attendance included Halle Berry, Julianna Margulies, and Sofia Vergara.

Welcome to Coterie

Tuesday (21st) – The first day of the Fashion Coterie Sole Commerce show at Jacob Javitt center! I spent the day at the Chocolat Blu booth lusting over these shoes! I have to wait til Spring 2011 to add them to my collection. That should give me enough time to decide which color I want.

Chocolat blu Dallas Shoe ($120). Launches Spring 2011

That evening I took my first Pole Dancing class (Intro to Pole Dancing, taught by Bonnie Fischer) at NY Pole. I’m not one for working out (I try, I just get bored), and I’m incredibly shy, so walking into the small studio, I was a little nervous. However, my friend and I had a blast! It was so fun, and we both felt so comfortable that it wasn’t scary at all. It was such a great workout and the time flew by. I even learned a thing or two;)

My new Hermes Silk Jersey Scarf (36"x36")

Wednesday (22nd) – I was a bad girl and joined my cousin at the Hermes sample sale.  Meet my new friend (above). Love my scarf, but I’m officially cut off.

Lara & Erika at the Casio Baby-G & Hellz Release Party

That evening the lovely Erika (from Shoes, Shirts, and Other Sh!t) and I attended the Baby-G & Hellz Collaboration Release Party featuring DJ Elle at 1Oak. Creating two signature watches, L.A. based designer Hellz and Casio Baby-G watches featured 80’s pop fashion homage to the NYC streets. What do you think of them? Better than the poor excuse of a drink 1Oak served up? Agreed. What can I say 1Oak if you’re not offering an open bar and are going to charge $18 a drink, put some alcohol in it.

Hellz and Casio Baby-G watches ($89)

Thursday (23rd) – Back to the Coterie show, this time to hang out with former Project Runway contestant, Daniel Feld and model his new line, Kymerah. I WANT IT ALL! I will post more about the line shortly.

After the show, I headed to

Odd Molly Spring 2011 Collection

Odd Molly makes me happy. There’s something about the mix of knits and silk with bursts of color and femininity that just makes me want to chuck my cell phone in a lake and spend the day out in a field picking daisies. They have this boho-hippy chic way of mixing a bunch of otherwise statement pieces together that flows whether the items are worn together or separately. And with braids (and ribbon) in their hair to models strutted down the runway at Lincoln Center to a live performance by Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl (I die, especially since my last encounter with Sean involved him spilling his drink on me—I was honored).
