Boots: More Trusted Than The Queen

Last week, I had the pleasure of joining Britain’s leading pharmacy-led health and beauty retailer, Boots for an evening of pampering, complete with manicures, skincare consultants and cosmetic advisors.  Hosted at the Norwood Club in NYC, Steve Llyod, (CEO of Boots) and Sandra Gabriele (their VP of Marketing & Communications) introduced myself and fellow beauty bloggers to the UK brand and their No7 collection.

Here’s some fun facts I found out.

  • 1 in 7 UK women owns a Boots No7 product.
  • Boots is the original creator of ibuprofin in 1969.
  • Boots and No7 specifically is Britain’s #1 skincare and cosmetic brand (bigger then L’Oreal, Olay..).
  • The No. 7 Protect & Perfect Serum ($23) is their best seller in the US and abroad! One is sold every 8 seconds at Target.
  • Studies show the No. 7 Protect & Perfect Serum actually visible reduces the appearance of deep lines and wrinkles and as you continue to use it the more effective it becomes. And won the Good Housekeeping Anti-Aging award for Best Anti-Aging Serum .
  • Target carries 6 Boots brands: No7, Botanics, Destination Brand, Boots Original Beauty Formula, Expert, Time Dimensions and Hawaiian Islands/Mediterranean/Amazon Forest Bath & Body.
Lara with Steve Llyod, CEO of Boots

After the speeches, I took some time out with Steve Llyod, CEO of Boots to ask a few more question:

The UK is obviously your largest market. Where does the US rank?

The thing about the US is that it’s a huge market so one of the advantages of being in Target and going national is you can have access to a lot of people. The US is the 3rd biggest in terms of beauty sales.  We’re Thailand’s largest pharmacy chain and they rank just above the US, but we’ve been there for 15 years. Boots has only been national in the US since 2007.  And the US market has nearly caught up to Thailand so it will likely overtake them next year.

Any plans to expand in the US beyond Target?

Yes, in the 1st qtr calendar we will have an additional retail partner. I just can’t tell you which one it is; but it’s a national chain.

Will you be in all of their locations or select ones? Can I guess the retailer?

We will be

Beyonce for Temptu: Dereon Temporary Tattoos

Beyonce under her mother, Tina Knowles’ fashion label, House of Dereon has teamed up with airbrush makeup company Temptu to create a new limited edition line of temporary tattoos.

“The look is 1960s pin-up meets futuristic biker chic”- Beyoncé for Deréon

Released earlier this month, there are three collectible variations of the tattoo kit ($16), each consisting of 8 Temporary Tattoo Transfer sheets (2 each of 4 designs) and 10 Tattoo application pads; cleverly packaged in what looks like a CD cover. Temptu has also released a DELUXE EDITION ($34), which is composed of all three kits and a few added bonuses.

Check out Beyonce’s promo video:

Her eye makeup in this clip is fabulous, although I’m not sure how I feel about the platinum blond hair. The tattoos in the video are the designs in the collection, however

True Body Soap Bars

I learned about True Body Soap on a recent trip to Boston for the Natural Products Expo East convention. Being a beauty blogger, I’m often taken in by a product’s scent, color and packaging, however it was quite the opposite with True Body.  It’s their simplicity and ethos that really caught my attention.

True Body Soap is an all-natural, everyday soap bar that is unscented and made of five ingredients –Coconut Oil, Palm Oil, Water, Vegetable Glycerine and Sodium Citrate –that’s it!  Committed to producing environmentally sustainable products, True Body Soap contain no animal by-products, synthetic ingredients or chemical preservatives

Hercules Magnetic Jewelry Clasp

Hercules Magnetic Jewelry Clasp

Having recently gone through a breakup and all the joys of basically living with someone for the past 3 years, you realize it’s the little things you miss the most. For instance, having someone help put on your jewelry. It may sound silly, but I completely took that comfort for granted. While I’m pretty solid with putting on my own necklaces (unless they are really tight), I have a lot of difficulty with bracelets.

Recently, I discovered Hercules Magnetic Jewelry Clasp. It’s actually really cool, it clasps to any regular lobster clasp at either end transforming your clasp into a magnetic one; making it very easy to open and close. I know that sounds

The Card Cache

I don’t know about you but I have a lot of junk in my wallet between business cards, credit cards, ID, gift cards and receipts. Plus why does every company have it’s own reward card? Can’t there be some paperless system in place already, like using a phone numbers?

I actually get so frustrated with how heavy and bulky my wallet gets that often I’ll take out my license, bank card, $40 and throw them in my makeup case and call it a night (literally – that’s about all the room my clutches can handle).  Then again it’s no wonder I’m always losing my license, this isn’t exactly the most organized solution. However, the Card Cache is. It’s a stylish keychain for your cards. Simply hole punch the corners of your promotional cards and

Chella’s NEW Brow Full-Fillment Conditioning Treatment

Collection of Chella Products

By now most of you are aware (or have even been apart) of the eyelash conditioning craze that’s been trending thickening and growing lashes for over a year, but what about your eyebrows?

In celebration of the launch of Chella’s latest product, the ‘Brow Full-Fillment Conditioning Treatment’, I attended a live demonstration by celebrity makeup artist DeeDee Marcelli (who’s worked with

Tide Loads of Hope Vintage T-Shirts

I’m generally not one for logo shirts, however I love my new Tide ‘Loads of Hope’ vintage t-shirt –I wear it loud and proud considering it goes to such a worthy cause. Tide ‘Loads of Hope’ program was founded in 2005 in response to Hurricane Katrina to provide clean clothes and help renew a sense of hope to families in New Orleans impacted by the hurricane.  All the profits from the sale of the tees benefit families affected by the natural disaster.  To date, they have washed over 33,000 loads of laundry for more than 22,000 families. Talk about feel good fashion!

They are incredibly soft and comfortable and have a nice fit. I’m generally a small in shirts however I went with the medium since they run tight and I like my shirts long (but still fitted).

Tide ‘Loads of Hope’ tee comes men (SM-XXL) and women’s (SM-XL) sizes in your choice of blue, green, orange, red or yellow. The front of the shirt features the ‘Tide’ logo, and on the back of the shirt reads ‘loads of love’.

Tide ‘Loads of Hope’ tees can

neuLash Eyelash Conditioner

I’ve been using neuLash active eyelash technology conditioner ($85) for over a month and am completely impressed by the results. Packed with essential proteins and vitamins (including Vitamin H, Pro-vitamin B5, pumpkin see extract and licorice extract), within two weeks my lashes were notably curlier and longer, and at this point they are ridiculous. I applied neuLash along the trail of my eyelash every evening before bed –okay that’s not completely true, I’ve definitely missed a few nights but am still reaping the rewards (although I advise daily use as recommended).

My only advice is to

Tom’s Peppermint Wave Long-Lasting Wicked Fresh Mouthwash

Mouthwash, it’s one of those products I generally have in my cabinet and yet as obsessed as I am with having white teeth, I rarely use. Partially because I’m apprehensive about the alcohol content many of them carry but mostly it’s due to the taste.  I simply prefer to spend more time brushing my teeth –an action I very much enjoy.  Problem is with this heat and dehydration my mouth gets totally raunchy and over-brushing (something I’m I’ve been a victim of in the past) can actually be quite harmful.  Brushing in the AM and PM is enough, but what about the middle of the day when I need a pick me up?

The answer is Tom’s NEW Peppermint Wave Long-Lasting Wicked! Fresh Mouthwash.  I’m from Boston so I thought I’d be disappointed with any product with the word ‘wicked’ in it and figured if it were ‘long-lasting’ it would be very strong.  I could not have been more wrong; it was actually a pleasure to use it. It’s alcohol free and tasted great. I could actually gargle with it for over a minute without feeling like I would be foaming at the mouth.  The secret is
