MAKE UP FOR EVER Fluo Night

I have a rather humorous story to tell that sums up to MAKE UP FOR EVER new Fluo Night is a must-have for Halloween or in your makeup collection for any occasion that deems you in Ultraviolet light.

My story begins at 10am in the bathroom of my office smothering this translucent loose powder all over my lips and eyes, turning off the lights and waiting to glow in the dark. I didn’t. I put more on, turned the lights off…nothing. I missed the part about only glowing in the dark under black-lights. Naturally, I put makeup on over the light-weight powder and chalked it up to a failed product. A whole day of work, and several events later; 12 hours to be exact, I stopped by SPiN New York to finalize my birthday reservations only to get a lot of stares. NO ONE SAID ANYTHING! Finally some overly drunk table-tennis player nearly screamed while almost tripping over me to pick up a ping-pong ball asking, “what’s the matter with your face?”

Confused for a moment, I realized it was black-light ping-pong night at the club (what are the odds?), and my MAKE UP FOR EVER product doesn’t glow in darkness, it glows under UV lights! I ran back to my date and asked what was the matter with my face? He replied, ‘nothing, why?’, I grabbed his arm and moved us under the black-light lantern –‘What about now?’. When he was finally able to compose himself from the horrific laughter we snapped a few shots, and I left mortified. Then off to Bulgari 5th Avenue location for a private event to celebrate the release of the infamous Texas socialite, Joanne King Herring (you know, the character Julia Roberts played in the movie Charlie Wilson’s War) new book, DIPLOMACY & DIAMONDS. While Joanne was doing a book signing, I was perusing the store drooling over just about everything I can’t afford, champagne glass in hand, with fellow blogger (and stellar date for the evening, Jonathan Valdaz of OJ&B). Everyone at the party was buzzing about the Studio 54 party that was going down later that night.

Jackie Collins Launches Goddess of Vengeance

Earlier this month, Jackie Collins debut her 28th novel, Goddess of Vengeance ($26.99), bringing back our favorite leading lady, Lucky Santangelo. Which for any Collins fan is the ultimate. Lucky is the girl we all want to be –and ones who don’t are likely pretending. We’ve watched her character grow from young bride, rouge adolescent to powerhouse jet-set mother of three; with a movie star husband and thriving career with the popularity of her casino and hotel business. While fans may have thought her wild days we’re over, with a title like Goddess of Vengeance, I look forward to seeing her unleash her wrath; after all, you know that families famous motto — Never fuck with a Santangelo.

And if you follow me on twitter (@prettyconnected) you’re well aware that Jackie Collins novels are my not-so-secret guilty pleasure. In fact after a particularly exhausting fashion week, amidst starting my own company and keeping up with my blog; I decided my reward for getting through the 4-hour sleepless nights and never ending to-do list would be to curl up in bed, shut out the world and read her latest book.

I’m not entirely sure what I was thinking having a Jackie Collins book in my possession for almost 2-weeks and resisting dropping everything to read it. I just knew that once I opened it, I would not be able to stop until it was finished. And last night, with the unappealing weather and gray NYC skies it was the perfect excuse to pour a glass of wine and enter the world of Lucky and her famous family and friends, while Armoand, a misogynist prince (who I’m hoping is the subject of Lucky’s vengeance and takes down) tries to take over her hotel. I’ve been a huge fan of the Patrick Melville Salon for some time now. I used to frequent the salon when I worked in Rockefeller Center and exercised at The Sports Club LA (where the salon is located in NYC).  Although in all my visits (and they are literally responsible for some of my best blow-outs and manicures), I’ve never had the pleasure of meeting Patrick himself until Fashion Week.

Pretty Connected Photo Credit in Elle!

How exciting! My first MAJOR photo credit in Elle!!! As most of you know I partnered with supermodel, extraordinaire, Elettra Wiedmann to join the PR team for her GOODNESS pop-up restaurant during New York Fashion Week. Elettra is also the face of Lancome and during GOODNESS, Lancome hosted a private beauty editor event — as in literally all my hero’s in the beauty industry were there (*contain excitement*)!

And fortunately for me, they asked if I would shoot the event! While I’m an amateur photographer at best, I have to say, I did pretty good for myself!

Spotted: Giuliana Rancic at the Lia Sopia Social Fashion Suite, as the jewelry brand debuts their Fall/Winter 2011 collection and Red Carpet line at the Empire Hotel during New York Fashion Week.

In what felt like a Pretty Connected exclusive with the E! News host, what with my friend Jonathan Valdez (of OJ&B ) and I, being the only lounge attendants with her (other then the staff and camera-man); we took full advantage of some quality time with Giuliana, complimenting her on — her jewelry!

Although after making my selection I had slight remorse over not getting the arrow ring! How hot is that!?!?! Jon Valdez scored it instead (arrow earrings and necklace are also available).

I’m very excited to announce the opening of  GOODNESS, a full service Fashion Week pop-up restaurant presented by The Daily and created by supermodel, extraordinaire, Elettra Wiedemann. I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with Elettra on this project and working with someone so creative and passionate has been truly inspiring –and delicious!

From Sept 11th – 14th,  7am – 3pm, GOODNESS will be open for breakfast and lunch to provide healthy and delicious appetizers, entrees and desserts. And then I jumped out of a plane

It’s been an exciting couple of weeks, although I’ve been unusually quiet lately (especially on twitter). The reason being, I have been asked to host and produce several VERY exciting events over fashion week, which I can’t wait to share with you! Between that, keeping up with my social life, getting everything in order for officiating my consulting business (I’m such an adult!) and managing my Pretty Connected world, it’s been a lot. Although I haven’t felt this exhilarated in a long time. Don’t get me wrong, averaging 4 hours of sleep/night, every few days I hit a wall and am ready to jump of a bridge. My boyfriend one-uped me and said how about a plane?

After several attempt to go skydiving over the summer and it being canceled due to weather conditions we finally made it! The perk of being flexible on the time and open to a weekday, we had a reservation for the next day. And it was just what I needed. A total adrenaline rush and 4 minutes of being completely out of my head to just enjoy the world and soak in the scenery.

After 45 seconds of free-falling, my instructor released the parachute and we floated for a few minutes doing twirls and taking in the sunset before making a perfect landing. I didn’t realize it until I got the pictures, but I’m a hard-core lip biter when I’m nervous!

It’s kind of the most amazing thing ever!

We jumped in Perkasie, PA at skydivingphiladelphia.com. My instructor was Rom (he was great, although he believes in humor over instruction until about 30 seconds before you’re about to be hurled off the plane). Onward and upward!
