Lucky Shops 2011 VIP Night Recap

Makeda from Glamazon Diaries, Lara (me), Eileen from Miss Who Ever You Are

What an exciting weekend! Friday night I was one of the featured bloggers for Lucky Magazine’s Lucky Shops VIP event (you may have noticed me tweeting up a storm).  I partnered with the publication to serve on their blogger committee which was nothing short of fabulous; I was so honored to be working with them.

The VIP event kicked off the annual Lucky Shops, which is 3-day shopping event, where dozens of our favorite designers sell their merchandise at up to 70%! It’s a fashionista’s dream, which NYC is not short on; so needless to say, it was packed.

My fellow committee members included  (check out their awesome blogs!): New York Girl Style, Miss Whoever You Are, My Style Pill, The Beauty File, Cheetah is the new Black, Nubia’s Nonsense, Audrey Allure, Honestly WTF, Cheap Chicas, Platinum Blonde Life, Style Cusp, Glamazone Diaries and of course myself, Pretty Connected.

On the red carpet...
Bloggers unite!

I met the glam team at Bloom Beauty Lounge to start the night out right with some blow-outs and styling. I went with my signature blowout with a some added curls and volume (I call it the Victoria’s Secret model blow-out) to compliment my awesome outfit  [Shirt/Shorts/Boots: Nicole Miller; Tights: Joe Fresh; Necklace: Banana Republic; Belt: The Limited]. Once our hair was red-carpet ready, that’s just where we headed — to the red carpet where we joined the likes of  Bridget Moynahan, Kaylee DeFer, Iman, Susan Lucci, Rachel Roy, Katina Bowden, and Erika Dasher to have our pictures taken and have exclusive coverage opportunities. Then on to go shopping!

I invited a few friends at the event and we bee-lined it to Rebecca Minkoff, and all walked away with a new purses. We circled the ground floor and then made our way upstairs to the Hunter Dixon booth. I’m new to their designs but am keeping them on my radar since I wanted everything in their booth! After settling on a pair of pants and skirt (my dates bought up just dresses and tops), it was time to move on. Two Lucky Shop shopping bags full later, I was cut off.

In love with my new Rebecca Minkoff bag!

We then headed to the Lucky Shops after-party at the Crosby hotel for a private advanced screening of Jane by Design starring Erica Dasher, Andie MacDowell and a whole lotta good looking men. As someone who probably doesn’t watch enough television, let alone ABC Family, I found it entertaining and fun without being cheesy (as I find most shows geared towards teenagers to be). If follows unpopular (although very fashion forward) high school student, Jane (Erica Dasher) as she applies for a fashion internship and instead mistaken for an adult, accidentally lands a part-time job. For the love of fashion, I’m sure this show will suck me right in — although it doesn’t premiere until January 23rd, so you’ll just have to wait to see what I’m talking about.

Joe Fresh Opens in NYC Flatiron District

Joe Zee and Joe Mimran at the Joe Fresh opening

Last week, NYC welcomed Joe Fresh, which as someone on Twitter referred to (when I tweeted I was at their store opening) “Canada’s treasure”. With 360 stores in Canada, Joe Fresh has been making a splash in the US beginning with locations at the Brdigewater Commons Mall, Roosevelt Field Mall and now NYC’s Flatiron district. Mimicking a food concept with fashion, Joe Fresh offers fresh styles at fresh prices.
Founded by Joe Mimran (Club Monaco founder), he attributes his ability to keep prices low (offering quality jeans, silk tops, and sweaters starting at $39, tights at $6!) to the creative process. Editing the assortment with high attention to detail and hand selecting what is made and the fabrication offers that control.

Hosting the opening was Creative Director of Elle Magazine and All on the Line star, Joe Zee; who’s first job was working for Joe Mimran when he began his fashion career in Canada, working retail at Club Monaco (he claims

As someone who went to ‘Fashion College‘ — I went to the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), this type of exposure is huge! At best we’d get one honorary speaker during the semester, with Teen Vogue it’s a back to back line-up of industry favorites. Personally, I can’t wait for Jack and Lazaro from Proenza Schouler –I’m obsessed with them. It wasn’t until last year during fashion week when I got to meet and hear the duo speak of which I’m still inspired by.

Last Night’s Parties, Places and Pictures: Nicole Miller, Bulgari, Ideeli, Carol’s Daughter

Getting in the Holiday spirit with Ideeli

Last night was one of those, I’m back in the game! nights, that remind you just why NY is so fabulous. The fashion, the crowd and all around entertainment of it all. I do love me my events, but I have been a hermit these past few weeks, living in my office and just trying to get organized with launching my company (sigh that sounds so adult) so at the chance of celebrating all my hard work and taking advantage of a full nights itinerary, I stepped back onto the scene at onto…

Sneak peek at Ideeli's sale

A holiday preview at discount designer sale website, Ideeli where I got a sneak peek at some exciting sales the site will be featuring between now and the holidays. Some of the many brands they are featuring at 40-80% off retail that we have to look forward to include: nOir (I’m obsessed with them), HeartBeats Headphones by Lady GaGa, ALEX & ANI, Betseyville, Juicy Couture, Laundry by Shelli Segal, John Varvatos Star, Ike Behar, Valentino scarves, KitchenAid and an assortment of fashionable must-have coffee table books. So if you haven’t signed up on Ideeli.com to be apart of their community yet, get too it!

Joanne King Herring book signing at Bulgari

Then off to Bulgari 5th Avenue location for a private event to celebrate the release of the infamous Texas socialite, Joanne King Herring (you know, the character Julia Roberts played in the movie Charlie Wilson’s War) new book, DIPLOMACY & DIAMONDS. While Joanne was doing a book signing, I was perusing the store drooling over just about everything I can’t afford, champagne glass in hand, with fellow blogger (and stellar date for the evening, Jonathan Valdaz of OJ&B). Everyone at the party was buzzing about the Studio 54 party that was going down later that night.

TriBeCa Whole Foods Launches the Wellness Club to Promote Healthy Living

By Pretty Connected Contributor, Elizabeth Borenstein

Whole Foods is defiantly my go to grocery store when I am looking for food that I think is healthy. That said, I have a sneaking suspicion that the Indian hot bar station I usually beeline to is not the most energy producing, nourishing option. It can be hard to know what to pick up that is healthy and delicious and Whole Foods can feel overwhelming to navigate. For confused consumers like myself and health conscious neighborhood residents, Whole Foods is looking to add a whole new dimension in how to shop their grocery store. Starting this month, with a pilot program at their Tribeca location in NYC, Whole Foods CEO John Mackey introduces the Wellness Club. “Created by doctors, this program offers members a wide-ranging set of tools for a greater chance of sustaining a healthier lifestyle.” Mackey describes.

Whole Foods Bread Breaking Ceremony

I stopped by the TriBeCa store for a traditional bread breaking ceremony and cooking demonstration in the brand new wellness center to learn more about this new initiative and what it means for

Vivienne Tam at her Fashion Yoga Collection

While designers debuted their spring 2012 ready-to-wear collections during New York Fashion Week, Vivienne Tam decided to take the opportunity to present her new Fashion Yoga Collection. Utilizing the outdoor space of Barclay’s Capital Grove within Lincoln Center she strayed from the usual models standing around, while the press takes their picture and went with a more interactive route. Lead by yoga experts, Rodney Yee, they created a living and breathing fashion yoga installation. During the presentation, 20 female yogis, dressed head to toe in Tam’s new line performed a choreographed yoga session, lead by Lee.
