Earth Day with Kiehl’s

For the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, I decided to spend the evening at the Kiehl’s Flagship store to partake in the celebration of their ‘Give Kiehls, Give Back’ campaign.

Photographed by David LaChapelle, the campaign features actress Julianne Moore, musician Pharrell Williams, pro-surfer Malia Jone and artist Jeff Koons; all of whom designed a limit edition label for Kiehl’s Acai Damage-Protecting Toning Mist.  For every one sold, Kiehl’s will donate 100% of the proceeds (up to $200,000) to the RainForest Alliance.

With actress Taryn Manning on the turn table, we celebrated Earth Day and Kiehl’s philanthropic efforts in style; great music, fun drinks and snacks (all acai berry based), with an influential crowd of actors, artists, TV personalities, photographers and press.  Guests included Malia Jones, Tinsly Mortimer, Robert Verdi, Parker Posey, Adrienne Bailon, Shiri Appleby, Richie Rich, Heather Matarazzo, Kelly Benisom, Ally Sheedy, Norman Reedus and KAWS.

The collection is available at Kiehls.com

Origins Hooks You Up for Earth Day

Earth Day is almost here and I’ve enjoyed watching so many beauty brands get involved to help raise awareness.

Recognizing that ‘product packaging accounts for 1/3 of all landfill waste,’ Origins is encouraging consumers to recycle.  They are even willing to do it for you.  Bring in your empty cosmetic and toiletry products to any origins store or counter nationwide (any brand) and they will recycle it.  Origins will even treat you to a free sample for your environmental efforts.

As if that’s not nice enough, as part of their Origins Rocks Earth Month initiative they offering some additional really amazing incentives to recycle:

On Earth Day, April 22nd bring in an empty bottle (any brand) to your local Origins store and they will give you a new full-size Origins Cleanser (A Perfect World or Checks and Balances).  Get there early, it’s only while supplies last!

Live (or frequent) NYC? Origins is offering 2 FREE tickets to see Grammy-Award Winner Macy Gray at Webster Hall in NYC on

Blood Donors Needed! Help Make a Difference

Back in January, I tried to do my part in the Haiti earthquake relief efforts, by writing a post listing five easy ways individuals could get involved and help and pledged to do them all.  One of the ways listed was to donate blood.  Earlier I received a phone call from the Red Cross saying “I’d like to talk to you about your blood donation in January”.  Naturally, I stopped dead in my tracks and panicked; I thought the only reason the Red Cross calls was if there was something wrong with your blood.  I was wrong.  She continued with, “Are you aware that there’s currently a shortage of all blood types in NYC but especially 0+, and with just one donation you can help as many as three people? Can we count on you to make a donation?”

My answer was most definitely yes! Although I recommended they open with “We need your help” when making these types of

Kiehl’s Partners with Julianne Moore, Pharrell Williams, Jeff Koons & Malia Jones for Earth Day

Kiehl’s Since 1851 is at it again! Last year in honor of Earth Day the skincare brand teamed up with Adrian Grenier, Kelly Slater, Erykah Badu and Parsons The New School for Design to help raise $100,000 for Waterkeeper.

This year Kiehl’s is partnering with actress Julianne Moore, musician Pharrell Williams, artist Jeff Koons and pro-surfer Malia Jones.  Each collaborator designed a Limited Edition label for their Acai Damage-Protecting Toning Mist and for every one sold, Kiehl’s is donating a 100% of the net proceeds (amounting to $200,000) to the Rainforest Alliance.

Jeff Koons is my favorite! Which is yours?

Lauren Conrad and mark. Take Action Against Domestic Violence

Domestic violence comes in many forms –physical, verbal, emotional, and financial.  According to mark., ‘studies show that 1 in 4 woman will be abused by a partner in their lifetime’ and ‘currently 1 in 5 teens in a serious relationship reports being physically abused by a partner’.

mark., the beauty and fashion brand, that is all about empowering young women in both their careers and social lives, decided to take action.  In September of 2008, mark. launched their m.powerment campaign to help raise awareness and break the cycle of dating abuse and relationship violence.  The m.powerment collection, which donates all the net proceeds to the cause, consisted of the Have a Heart Necklace ($22), and Glow Baby Glow Hook Up Lip Glosses in m.powerment shades ($6) has since raised over $400,000.

Last night, Claudia Poccia, Global President, mark. and Lauren Conrad, mark. Spokesperson and Honorary Co-Chair of m.powerment by mark. launched their latest m.powerment campaign; the Have a Heart Bracelet ($12), and a Public Service Announcement, featuring Lauren Conrad.

The two, alongside Peer Educator, Kristen DeFur from the Healthy Relationship Training Academy of New York City sat on a panel for a Q&A Session to answer questions and stress that help is available.  Since domestic violence comes in multiple forms it’s important to trust your instincts and seek help immediately if you feel you’re a victim of abuse.  The most important thing is to get out of the relationship safely, and although that may seem impossible for many, counselors are

Rachel Roy’s Birthday Wish Comes True!

This year, designer Rachel Roy decided to skip her birthday on January 15th and start a birthday campaign through Charity Water instead.  Having witnessed first hand the effects and hardships created by lack of unsafe drinking water, Rachel’s goal was to raise $15,000 by March 15th.  If successful, she would help 750 people, 150 families and 3 communities receive clean water.

It’s pretty amazing Rachel was able to give up a birthday in exchange for helping so many.  What’s even better is today is January 30th, and she’s already exceeded her goal!  She’s currently at $15,839, and there is still well over a month of donating to be done.   No donation is too small (or big), the more money she raises the higher the count of people helped.  Currently, she’s served 791 people!

We donated. Thank you Rachel for letting us be apart of your birthday! Even if it is technically skipped.
