Blood Donors Needed! Help Make a Difference

Back in January, I tried to do my part in the Haiti earthquake relief efforts, by writing a post listing five easy ways individuals could get involved and help and pledged to do them all.  One of the ways listed was to donate blood.  Earlier I received a phone call from the Red Cross saying “I’d like to talk to you about your blood donation in January”.  Naturally, I stopped dead in my tracks and panicked; I thought the only reason the Red Cross calls was if there was something wrong with your blood.  I was wrong.  She continued with, “Are you aware that there’s currently a shortage of all blood types in NYC but especially 0+, and with just one donation you can help as many as three people? Can we count on you to make a donation?”

My answer was most definitely yes! Although I recommended they open with “We need your help” when making these types of

DVF Ups the Ante on FREE SHIPPING!

In my post from this morning (where I drooled all over the new DVF iPhone cover), I expressed some confusion over the promo code ‘DVFSHIPFREE’ that Diane von Furstenburg posted about on their Facebook page as well as some difficulties I was experiencing while trying to order it off their website.

Go figure, I check my email and within an hour of the post going live the lovely people at Diane von Furstenberg sent me an email! They clarified the promo code ‘DVFSHIPFREE’ (to sum it up you could buy as many $400+ dresses you’d like but if there wasn’t an item in your shopping cart for under $100 –like the $20 iPhone cover, you don’t qualify for free shipping). But lets forget about that nonsense considering they shared an even better promo code with me!  Use APRILSHIP at checkout during the month of April and receive free ground shipping on

DVF’s iPhone Cover

I’m obsessed!!! How hot is the new Diane von Furstenberg iPhone Cover?  She designed it in honor of the new iPhone application DVF launched earlier this week.

I saw on Facebook they are running a free shipping promo. ‘Use DVFSHIPFREE for free ground shipping on any order with an item under $100’.  Is it me or is that awkwardly worded?  The iPone cover is $20, which is under $100 so I think that means I’m getting free shipping?  And on that note, ONLY $20!!!! I’m so impressed (and surprised) they didn’t price it higher.

I need it and am ordering it now! Or at least trying to, the website seems to be having a meltdown at the moment when it comes to ordering them.  Maybe they weren’t expecting the entire female population to be ordering it all at once.

It also fits iPod Touches, for more information visit dvf.com

The Wellness Cafe at Norma Kamali

I received an invitation from Norma Kamali to visit her new Wellness Café.  Located at the Norma Kamali flagship store on 56th Street, I was no stranger to the café considering I used to work around the corner.  Tucked in the back of her store, it was an olive oil haven.  Filled with all types of pastries and snacks (all olive oil based); I was a sucker for the lavender shortbread.

I had heard during New York Fashion Week Norma made some adjustments to her life and was adding more raw and vegan elements into her diet. The café is an extension of Kamaili had thus evolved with her.  I was excited to see the changes to the café, and even though I knew the olive oil base would always prevail, I had a feeling this would be the demise of my beloved shortbread.

As some of you know I’ve been on an oil kick for sometime now, olive oil, macadamia nut oil, argon oil, coconut oil, essential oils . . . you get the point.  What began as something I only used on my body has now fully been integrated onto my face and hair as part of my regiment.  I’ve also been on a recent health kick (or at least trying to be), the downfall of months of traveling and abiding by the ‘there’s no calories on vacation’ rule.  And to that all I can say is it’s all fun and games until bathing suit season.  So perfect timing for this invitation, I would be in good company, and I can use all the inspiration I can get!

So through the entrance, past the mannequins to the back of the store I go.  Aesthetically it’s still very much the original café, however

Another one bites the dust: So Long Shu Uemura

Get your Shu Uemura favorites (in store) while you can, L’Oreal has decided to close down the U.S. operations for the brand.  While I will miss seeing their products at Barneys and Sephora, at least they will continue to be available on the Shu Uemura website.  Phew! Considering every eyelash enthusiast swears by their curlers.  Plus, I would hate to have to travel oversees just to buy their cleansing oil.  Or would I?

So long Shu Uemura, your retail presence will be missed!

Maria Bonita Salon & Spa ‘Luck of the Irish’ Treatment

On St. Patrick’s Day, I had the pleasure of joining the Maria Bonita Salon & Spa for the launch of their ‘Luck of the Irish’ package which consists of a deep conditioning hair treatment using the spa’s new premium line, Envix Super Premium 20-in1 Multip-Action Deep Conditioning Hair Masque, a blow-out and manicure.

Considering my hair has not been cooperating lately, having a stylist handle it and help get me ready for the big evening ahead was just what I needed. Located in the heart of Nolita, this charming spa has resided at 12 Prince Street for the past 7 years.  From the moment I walked into the Maria Bonita Salon & Spa, I instantly felt relaxed and part of the family.

Rogerio, my hair dresser was fantastic, he washed my hair and applied the Envix Hair Treatment Masque; I then sat under the hair dryer for fifteen minutes before having it rinsed it out.  He then proceeded to give me one of the best blow-outs I have ever received.  The point of difference being

A Modern Dose to Spruce up Your Apartment! Plus 10% off with the Promo Code “SPRING10”

Well it’s that time of year again in my household –spring cleaning! And my apartment could use a bit of an upgrade.  As a busy New Yorker I never took much stock into seriously decorating since I was never home, but now that I work out of my apt that’s all changed. And as a bit of a website junky, I’m always looking for inspiration, since I’m a merchandiser, not a designer.  What I mean by that is coming up with concepts I’m somewhat deficient in; I never know what I want.  But put me in a room full of fun furnishings and I can easily maneuver my way around to achieve the look I never knew I always wanted (I’m that way with clothing as well).

Robert Verdi, Style Icon and TV personality and Estela Lugo, Founder of Modern Dose

Fortunately, the website Moderndose.com recently entered my life when I met it’s Founder, Estela Lugo, at a Fashion Week event hosted by Robert Verdi (where he called her website, ‘the future of interior design’).  I was intrigued to say the least. That’s quite an endorsement from

The Long and Windy Road to Running the NYC Half Marathon

I’m going to cut to the chase since this turned out to be a rather long post.  So for all of you who would like to be spared the page long story . . . in a nutshell, I ran the New York City Half Marathon (13.1 miles) this morning in 2 hours, and 11 minutes.  My first race ever as well as the longest distance I have ever run (by far) without stopping!  Despite not being able to feel my legs, this was quite possibly one of the most amazing experiences of my life.  How did I get myself into this mess?

My story begins last November at Morandi.  I attended an intimate birthday dinner where one very charming and persuasive ABC weather girl, Heidi Jones managed to convince the entire table of 6 that running the New York City Half Marathon was a great idea.  That is until the next morning when the wine wore off and suddenly the thought of doing 13.1 miles to a bunch of otherwise non-runners seemed doubtful.  Some emails circulated, much grunting was done, but with

Kiehl’s Partners with Julianne Moore, Pharrell Williams, Jeff Koons & Malia Jones for Earth Day

Kiehl’s Since 1851 is at it again! Last year in honor of Earth Day the skincare brand teamed up with Adrian Grenier, Kelly Slater, Erykah Badu and Parsons The New School for Design to help raise $100,000 for Waterkeeper.

This year Kiehl’s is partnering with actress Julianne Moore, musician Pharrell Williams, artist Jeff Koons and pro-surfer Malia Jones.  Each collaborator designed a Limited Edition label for their Acai Damage-Protecting Toning Mist and for every one sold, Kiehl’s is donating a 100% of the net proceeds (amounting to $200,000) to the Rainforest Alliance.

Jeff Koons is my favorite! Which is yours?
