Dry skin remedy: Bio-Oil

Post by Erika Mercado

On a recent trip to South Africa, I found my skin to be very dry so I set out to find a local product at the chemist;  I enjoy finding local remedies when I travel.  What the chemist had recommended was Bio–Oil. She let me try it on my skin and it quickly absorbed and had a good smell –I’ll take it!

I continued to use the product while in the South Africa and upon my arrival to NYC and it had done wonders- making my skin so smooth and even toned.    Thinking I could only get it in South Africa, I was surprised when to I found it at Duane Reade. Made with a no preservatives and a medley of good stuff (Vitamin A and E, Calendula, Lavender, and Chamomile oils) this summer my secret has been Bio-Oil.  I apply after it after the shower, and I’m good to go.  Great healthy skin, what else could a girl ask for?

Price: $19.99/4 fl oz., $11.99/2 fl oz.  For more information visit www.bio-oil.com

Molly Crabapple for Dirtee Hollywood

I feel like I’ve been hearing the name Molly Crabapple everywhere these days. Known for her unique burlesque style animation, Molly has illustrated for a wide array of publications including Marvel Comics, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, as well as for NYC hot spot, The Box. She has also exhibited her work internationally as well as founded the Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School. Now Crabapple is entering the fashion world thanks to her recent partnership with Dirtee Hollywood, where she has designed for their Spring, Summer, and Fall tshirt collections.

Dirtee Hollywood celebrated the collaboration at Fred Segal in LA, and Atrium in NYC, where Pretty Connected had the pleasure of meeting Molly and watching her work (she literally transformed a blank canvas into a burlesque-vixen with an octopus before our very eyes (see pictures below).

Pretty Connected (PC): How did you come to be apart of this collaboration?

Molly Crabapple (MC): Dirty Hollywood approached me about a year ago. I had never thought I would do a fashion line before but they gave me complete creative freedom. They said ‘Molly you’re known for doing saucy Victorian girls, do saucy Victorian girls for us’ and it’s just been this wonderful collaboration ever since.

PC: How did you come up with the drawings for Dirty Hollywood?

MC: I suppose I should have a more rational explanation

As for me, I’m going to pour a glass of wine and read all about Nate Ferrentino, the private security contractor assigned to infiltrate a mysterious cult that’s moved into Paradise, Arizona. Only problem is Rachel Jessop, Nate’s colleague and long time crush has also assigned to the case –as his wife. So much for keeping his distance (and keeping it

Hibba Kapil (HK): 9 years, I opened this location in February [2010]. Prior to this I rented a chair at a salon to build up my clientele.

Taking Hair With Brooke Burke

Lara Eurdolian, Brooke Burke

Pretty Connected caught up with Dancing with the Stars host, Brooke Burke to get the skinny on her gorgeous locks as she kicked off the Wella Professionals Color Discovery Tour.

Pretty Connected (PC): What’s most important to you when it comes to your hair?

Brooke Burke (BB): I think healthy hair is probably the most important. I do a lot of conditioners and deep conditioners, glosses, and get regular haircuts. I don’t stray too much from natural browns so I use the Wella Professionals hair color line in the salon, to keep my hair healthy and shiny.

PC: What hair product can you not live without?

BB: I like spray glosses since my hair is pretty curly and gets frizzy. I also use coconut oil in a jar, which you can get at most health food stores; it’s really cheap, all natural and it’s the best. I put it on my ends and it’s great!

PC: What’s your beauty secret?

BB: Less in more, especially in the summertime. For me, it’s really about sunscreens, and maybe

Lindsay Lohan Swears by her Nails (in Court)

In big news this morning, Lindsay Lohan showed up to court Tuesday afternoon wearing all black and what seemed like a regular multicolored manicure.  After closer inspection celebrity blog WWTDD noticed she had adorned the words ‘F_ CK U’ (I’ll let you fill in the blank) onto one of her nails.  So while her mouth was saying, “I don’t want you to think I don’t respect you and your terms” to the court, her middle finger was expressing something completely different.

I bet the judge feels incredibly vindicated for giving Lohan a 90-day jail sentence (three times what the prosecutors were seeking).  Talk about a beauty statement!
