My New Beauty Tips: How to Avoid Hair Breakage and Revive Damaged Hair

I’m so honored to be in my favorite beauty magazine, New Beauty for The Beauty Report Issue sharing my tips on how to protect your hair from breakage! I always had beautiful, shiny hair until 2 years ago when I started getting addicted to color and last year when a stylist damaged my hair to the brink of daily tears. On the upside I learned and tried everything about how to fake it until your hair grows out and fix/prevent further damage.

Since I give a quick Q&A for the magazine, I wanted to dive into the subject more and what products you should look for since a lot of you have this issue. Lack of moisture can be a big cause of breakage and damaged hair. while there isn’t a shortage of hair strengtheners, split end menders, oils (bows down to Leonor Greyl), hair masks (Shea Moisture, and Kerastase are gold), and supplements (Nutroful is my ride or die) on the market, when addressing hair health and growth, I wanted to share additional tips that often get overlooked.

1. Trade in your towel for a microfiber towel or soft tee shirt. Your hair is most vulnerable when it’s wet which is why you should never dry your hair aggressively with a towel. Microfiber towels are more absorbent and gentler on strands. I’ve been using Aquis for over a decade so I’m partial to them (they come in a bunch of colors), but any brand should be fine. Alternatively you can also use a soft tee shirt, just be very gentle if you’re using a towel.

2. Stay away from hair elastics and opt for hair clips or ties that are gentler and use words like tug-free on the packaging. We make fun of scrunchies, although they are supposed to be making a come back, I personally sleep in a silk scrunchy (we don’t go out in public) and it’s best for preserving a blow-out. Grace Eleyae is a super cool brand, they have silk scrunchy and also silk inside baseball and beanie hats and silk turbans to protect your hair. Genius! Silke also makes a line of BEAUTIFUL silk hair wraps.

3. Sleep on a silk (satin works too) pillowcase! This is also better for your skin as well. It doesn’t absorb product the same way cotton can and is more gentle on your hair. Slip is really chic and comes in a bunch of colors and is so soft and luxe. Alternatively there’s The Hollywood Silk Solution or Starlet Satin, which are are great as well and boost hair and skincare benefits.

Chatting Skincare with New Beauty Magazine

There’s really nothing I enjoy more than learning about different skincare formulas and then breaking down the information, which is why I was so excited to partner with New Beauty magazine and break down one of the best anti-aging masks on the market right now. New Beauty Tastemaker

Earlier this month, I was really honored to join New Beauty Magazine for their Tastemaker event, as one of their tastemakers! Hosted at the New Beauty offices in Rockefeller Center, it was basically speed dating, with beauty brands — my kind of dating! Each tastemaker had their own table and then brands would rotate visiting me (on a timer) and tell me about their companies and new product launches. There were so many cool indie beauty brand, many of which I worked with in the past so it was exciting to catch up with the founders and hear about the progress their brands had made. While there wasn’t time to meet with every brand in attendance, here were some of my favorites and brands you should have on your radar:new-beauty-tastemaker-event

Grande Cosmetics

Grande Cosmetics also has a special place in my heart. I discovered them when I was judging the ICMAD awards a few years ago and they blew it out of the water! Their liquid liner won my vote for the category because it was by far the best product choice in the category. EVERYTHING I’ve used from the brand since has blown me away, I love their GrandBROW-FIll! Their latest addition is a Grande Lips, a collection of lip plumpers available in clear and six additional colors, including my dream pink! Dermarche Labs

Dermarche Labs has a variety of products including Roloxin Lift, which funny enough I was at the launch of this event in 2014! It also won the Allure best of beauty award that year. It’s the perfect mask for when you need to rebook skin since it instantly lifts, hydrates and reduces the appearance of wrinkles and pores. How it works is you activate the formula by massaging the sachet in your hands for 20 seconds, then cleanse and lightly dampen your skin and apply the formula to your face for 7-10 minute or until it dries. Then rinse it off and apply your moisturizer or continue with your regular beauty routine — your skin will feel instantly more even, and your skin will be so soft and glowing! I also learned about two new products Fullfill, which is a big dose of Hyaluronic Acid which is a plumper and wrinkle filler. As well as Biorewind which is two part serum — an AM Full-Spectrum Antioxidant Serum and PM Pro-Grade Retinoid Repairing serum.

NewBeauty Celebrates 10th anniversary

Congratulations to my loves at NewBeauty Magazine! Last night we celebrated the publications 10 year anniversary with NewBeauty Editor in Chief Yolanda Yoh, NewBeauty Vice President, Group Publisher Steffanie Attenberg and SANDOW CEO Adam Sandow for what was a beauty-full event, featuring two floors of beauty brand activations, makeovers, and photo booths. Guests also we’re able to experience their TestTube program, which if you’re not familiar with think Birchbox, but they actually launched their sampling program first!
