NYFW: Backstage at Jason Wu Spring 2014 Show with Lancome

Backstage at Jason Wu with Lancome

When you get invited to see the behind the scenes for a mega designer such as Jason Wu, you view every detail and you view it thoroughly. The designer himself said this collection was “a dialogue between construction and ease” and you certainly felt that before even seeing the garments. The hair by lead stylist Odile Gilbert was sleekly constructed into pristine ponytails with help from Kerastase’s Boucles D’Art mousse.

Michelle Obama Wears Jason Wu AGAIN to 2013 Inauguration Ball

President Obama And first lady Attend Inaugural Balls

It would be the biggest news since Michelle Obama’s bangs — of course I’m talking about her dress of choice for the 2013 Inauguration ball. Out walks the First Lady in her gorgeous ruby colored full length gown (with v-neck back) and alongside the President, they share the first dance. (All the while we’re all holding our breathe, in anticipation of the dress announcement.) Finally it’s revealed, she’s wearing Jason Wu… again. What’s so crazy about this momentous fashion moment is no one knows who she will wear — not even the designer — until she makes her entrance. She complimented the dress with Jimmy Choo shoes.

Having a reputation for wearing young designers and bringing them in the spotlight — as she did the first time around in wearing Jason Wu, and with all the speculation over who she would be wearing. I don’t think anyone anticipated it would Wu again. She already made his career the first time around,

Tell @Bergdorfs: How do you Jason Wu + Meet the designer

I have such a strong appreciation for Jason Wu, he’s one of the few designers I’ve had the pleasure of following since attending his very first runway show in 2006. Since then Michelle Obama wore his gown for the presidential inauguration and the flood gates opened. Then came the Target line and now? Hopefully an expansion into home starting with Nest Fragrances Jason Wu Orchid Rain candle!

Isn’t it chic? In perfect Jason Wu fashion, the frame is adorned with a signature orchid-floral print inspired by his Spring 2012 runway collection. While the scent is unmistakably feminine, there’s a unisex appeal to the design that makes it fit for any shared spaces with your spouse or otherwise… The Orchid Rain candle, combines white orchid with nashi pear, pomegranate and goji berry to create an airy, fruity-floral scent that enhances any room both in fragrance and in aesthetic.

With that in mind, Bergdorf Goodman invites you to print a picture of it, cut it out and style it for your chance to win it!

The contest is open through June 13th. To enter, tweet @bergdorfs a picture of JASON WU Orchid Rain (using the DIY cut-out above) styled in your surroundings. . . the setting can be home, office, wherever you see fit – just remember to be really creative! They are looking for the five best submissions. When sharing your picture, be sure to tweet at @bergdorfs & use the hashtag #BGJasonWu. For complete details visit the Bergdorf blog or click HERE.

Meet Jason Wu & have your candle signed! Additionally, Bergdorf Goodman is hosting the designer for a meet and great on June 14 from 5pm – 6pm on the Beauty Level at 5th Avenue and 58th Street. If you would like to attend, RSVP at [email protected] OR  by calling 212 872 8764.

As for how I styled this little marvel… In the bedroom.

NOTE: This candle is too pretty to just disregard after it’s burned out. Clean it out and re-use it as a holder! It can hold anything from a collection of markers or pens, hair elastics and bobby pins, jewelry and pins, loose change… the possibilities are endless!

The Nest Fragrance Jason Wu Orchid Rain Candle ($48) is available at BergdorfGoodman.com. Approximate burn time 45 hours.

A Beautiful Weekend for the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic

Corks off to Veuve Clicquot for hosting an exceptional weekend of beautiful people, glamorous hats, exceptional champagne and of course polo.

Friday night, VC president, Jean-Marc Lacave and VC US president, Vanessa Kay hosted a kick-off party to celebrate the 5th Annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic on top of The Standard Hotel at Le Bain. I celebrated with a few friends, toasting the night away; getting lost in the live band and playing with the exceptional array of Veuve Clicquot merchandise floating around the room (I somehow ended up with a VC hat, cigars, a fan and sunglasses!). The event all-star, polo extraordinaire, Nacho Figueras was casually walking the room, taking pictures and looking as virile in person as he does in his Ralph Lauren ads.

{My date and taking in the view — I’m wearing an Alice + Olivia dress, Ralph Lauren Necklace, and BCBG black pumps}

{Oh Nacho… Photo Credit: Billy Farrell Agency}

{VC embellished the Le Bain hot tub — we didn’t go in, but bathing suits were available}

{Cheers to fabulous friends, and especially Christine for making all of this possible!}

Then Saturday came, THE BIG DAY — the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic. My group packed a picnic and headed downtown to catch the ferry to Liberty State Park where the festivities were taking place. What a dapper audience getting on board the boat, sporting an exceptional array of hats. I could written a blog post alone on the variety of exceptionally unique chapeau’s I spotted.

{I am a sucker for photobooths!}

{My date and I channeling our inner Gatsby! How cute is this?  I’m wearing my mom’s now-vintage Nicole Miller dress from when she was my age}

{Only thing better then a wonderful day in the park… wonderful friends to enjoy it with}

{Cheers to the ladies and are unsmoked VC cigars}

{VC hired a steller ragtime band to add to the experience}

{For anyone watching the match… all eyes we’re on Nacho}

{How could I resist not part taking in the ceremonial filling of the divots?! STOMP, STOMP, STOMP!}

{VIP Section… I spy Padma Lakshmi}

After lounging on the grass we headed to the VIP section where the champagne was pouring and strawberries we’re being passed out, while a decadent buffet was on display for guests to enjoy. After 4 hours of sun and champagne, the Nespresso bar was literally saving my life and keeping me awake. All that was missing was a charging station — my phone died! Which was fine since it was great to just be present for such a wonderful event, without fighting the urge to instagram and tweet everything in site (as I did the 3 hours prior). Notable guests in the room included Clive Owen, Rachel Zoe, Leslie Bibb, Padma Lakshmi, Zoe Saldana, Jason Wu, Tiffani Thiessen, Dree Hemingway, Poppy Minka Kelly, Hilary Rhoda, Alek Wek, Coco Rocha, Jessica Stam, Olivia Palermo, Poppy Delevigne, DJ Mia Moretti and Caitlin Moe. I had to cut the day a little short as I had a flight to catch to LA, otherwise, I wanted the day to never end!

Thank you Veuve Clicquot for a lovely weekend!

10/22: Teen Vogue Fashion University

On October 22nd (tomorrow!), join Teen Vogue online for their annual TEEN VOGUE Fashion University, which serves as an educational program where the business of fashion is taught by its leaders.  Hosted live from New York City, this exclusive event provides 500 young women who aspire to a career in the fashion industry the opportunity to learn from top designers, editors and fashion entrepreneurs, including Michael KorsAlexander Wang, Jason Wu, Peter Som,  Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler, and TEEN VOGUE’s EIC Amy Astley, among others.

This year, anyone not local can experience Fashion U. online!  Viewers will have the opportunity to watch the top six seminars from the October 22nd curriculum as they happen live from the Hudson Theater, and they can be viewed on demand whenever, wherever after the live event. Registration is open now at fashionu.fora.tv for $34.95.

As someone who went to ‘Fashion College‘ — I went to the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), this type of exposure is huge! At best we’d get one honorary speaker during the semester, with Teen Vogue it’s a back to back line-up of industry favorites. Personally, I can’t wait for Jack and Lazaro from Proenza Schouler –I’m obsessed with them. It wasn’t until last year during fashion week when I got to meet and hear the duo speak of which I’m still inspired by.

Below is a peek at this year’s “curriculum,” and more information and a full list of seminars, and resources for aspiring fashionista’s looking to break into the industry visit teenvoguefashionuniversity.com
