If you’re a Jackie Collins fan, then you’re a fan of the Santangelos. The two are mutually exclusive in my book (pun intended). If you have no idea what I’m talking about, I’ll clue you in. Icon and novelist, Jackie Collins has written 31 books over the course of her career, all of which have appeared on The New York Times bestsellers list. And it’s because they suck you in, murder, betrayal, love, lust all run through the eccentric characters. Inspired by the rich and famous and world of celebrities Collins is privy too, she bases her stories and characters on real life occurrences (well, hopefully not the murder parts), and takes you on a world of adventure with every page.

Well Jackie Collins fans, we have a lot to be excited about! For starters, she has a new book out, CONFESSIONS OF A WILD CHILD, which launched earlier this month, and it’s about our favorite character, Lucky Santengelo! And get this… the book has a movie deal! I’ve known Jackie for years and in every interview I always ask when her books are hitting the big screen — well dozens of novels later, we have our answer!
As far as I’m concerned there are two types of women, Jackie Collins fans and those who don’t know they are Jackie Collins fans yet (the rest of you are just pretending). I used to be the latter until meeting the author a few years back and by the end of our interview I was completely enamored.
Her kindness, coupled with her no nonsense, tell-it-like it is attitude is so refreshing as is her genuine love of women and commitment to building strong female characters in her books. Collins is a dreamer, a natural story teller, with a huge imagination and she inspires me every time I’m around her. So consider my reaction when I was asked to host the launch of her latest book, The Power Trip. Let me be clear, my Vespa’s name Lucky (after my favorite JC character), her autographed picture which she signed “Stay Lucky” hangs in my office and at least once a week I have a ‘what would Jackie Collins do?’ moment — you get it, this offer made my life.
So alongside the talented Jamey Giddens of Daytime and Pop Confidential, we co-hosted the press event at NYC’s Yotel all Family Feud style. Literally. We divided 40 or so press and bloggers into two teams for some Pop Culture Trivia. The winning team got to face off against Collins herself for the ultimate showdown. First off, if I knew being a game-show host was this much fun, I would have switched careers. Bloggers in competitive mode is one of the most
My dear friends,
It’s with great sadness today that I announce the departure of my beloved Vespa, “Lucky”. Named after an infamous character in Jackie Collins novels, Lucky was a strong and beautiful LX150 who helped me explore the boroughs of NYC and brought me endless joy throughout our 4 years together. Unfortunately, the salt water of Hurricane Sandy was too much for her and she was unable to recover from the internal water damage. Words can’t describe how much fun we had together and she will be deeply missed.
She was wonderful and I’m grateful for all the time we had together.
Earlier this month, Jackie Collins debut her 28th novel, Goddess of Vengeance ($26.99), bringing back our favorite leading lady, Lucky Santangelo. Which for any Collins fan is the ultimate. Lucky is the girl we all want to be –and ones who don’t are likely pretending. We’ve watched her character grow from young bride, rouge adolescent to powerhouse jet-set mother of three; with a movie star husband and thriving career with the popularity of her casino and hotel business. While fans may have thought her wild days we’re over, with a title like Goddess of Vengeance, I look forward to seeing her unleash her wrath; after all, you know that families famous motto — Never fuck with a Santangelo.
And if you follow me on twitter (@prettyconnected) you’re well aware that Jackie Collins novels are my not-so-secret guilty pleasure. In fact after a particularly exhausting fashion week, amidst starting my own company and keeping up with my blog; I decided my reward for getting through the 4-hour sleepless nights and never ending to-do list would be to curl up in bed, shut out the world and read her latest book.
I’m not entirely sure what I was thinking having a Jackie Collins book in my possession for almost 2-weeks and resisting dropping everything to read it. I just knew that once I opened it, I would not be able to stop until it was finished. And last night, with the unappealing weather and gray NYC skies it was the perfect excuse to pour a glass of wine and enter the world of Lucky and her famous family and friends, while Armoand, a misogynist prince (who I’m hoping is the subject of Lucky’s vengeance and takes down) tries to take over her hotel. Although the character I’m most excited about watching
The wildly entertaining and ever so charming Jackie Collins is at it again with her latest novel, ‘Poor Little Bitch Girl’. No one does scandal like Jackie Collins. Having a front row seat to the Hollywood scene, she knows how to write a page-turner, which is evident if you’ve ever read any of her 26 other books. And while Jackie is privy to all the gossip, she can keep a secret; these stories make for great characters and scenarios in her books.
In ‘Poor Little Bitch Girl’, take for instance Annabelle Maestro, the daughter of two movie stars, who later grows up and takes on the alias Belle Svetlana, Madam to the most exclusive call girl business in NYC. Annabelle changed professions once she was too old to become an accessory to her celebrity parents, and could no longer afford supporting her boyfriend’s coke habit based on her parent’s allowance. Then there is Denver Jones, the hotshot attorney and Annabelle’s close friend in high school until Denver couldn’t keep up with Annabelle’s popularity and began hanging out Carolyn Henderson, the ‘brainy kid’. Carolyn grows up to become the personal assistant and mistress to a very powerful (and married) Senator in Washington. Well these ladies are no longer in high school, and mix in a murder to the already
