The Sartorialist Partner’s with Kiehl’s for Father’s Day

Scott Schuman "The Sartorialist", Lara Eurdolian

The Sartorialist is one of my favorite fashion blogs. I mean how could it not be? Scott Schuman (aka ‘The Sartorialist’) is not only an amazing photographer, but basically pioneered the broadcasting of street fashion and turned photoblogging into art form.

For Father’s Day, he’s partnered with  skincare brand, Kiehl’s Since 1851 to shoot their Father’s Day campaign showcasing a series of images honoring the relationship between dad’s and their children. Scott also collaborated with the brand to create The Sartorialist for Kiehl’s Limited Edition Dopp Kit for Men ($55.50). The set features Scott’s must-haves from Kiehl’s and travel essentials and includes their Facial Fuel Energizing Face Wash (2.5oz), Facial Fuel Energizing Moisture Treatment (2.5oz), Facial Fuel No-Shine Lip Balm (0.17oz), Ultimate Brushless Shave Cream White Eagle (2.5oz) and “Ultimate Man” Scrub Soap (3.2 oz ), packaged in a chic, functional travel case  (created by Italian fashion House Luca Roda!).

The Sartorialist for Kiehl’s Dopp Kit for Men

Recently, having the opportunity to meet with Scott, I had a few questions…

Tell me about the The Sartorialist for Kiehl’s Limited Edition Dopp Kit for Men and how you picked the products.

I felt very comfortable with Kiehl’s because it was a product I already used, so I knew what I wanted. It’s all based on how you travel. I designed the kit and I was asking Garance [Dore] to draw it out for me so of course she had her own design input. I hate when you just throw everything in a bag and you can’t find anything –like a women’s purse, so I put a lot of pockets in it so you could put things away. I like to put my cuflinks in them.

What was the part about working with Kiehl’s?

They kept sending me free products! That, and being able to celebrate dad’s and shoot that story. I was a stay-at-home dad for two years and I met a lot of dad’s that have a really great relationship with their kids and I really wanted to celebrate that.

What was the creative process for this campaign?

We did a casting and picked a certain amount dad’s, and then went to the park [Bleeker Street Park] that I go to with my kids all the time and I said ‘okay guys, just play. Don’t worry about me, don’t worry about the photographs. I’ll make you look good, you just have fun with your kids’.

What makes you smile?

My girlfriend Garance Dore and my little kids.

Now who’s taking pictures of who Scott?

Kiehl’s Celebrates their 160th Anniversary in True NYC Fashion

New York-based skin care brand, Kiehl’s Since 1851 celebrated their 160th Anniversary last week across the street from their iconic flagship location on 13th and 3rd Avenue. While the rain was pouring outside, the stars we’re shining bright inside. Guests included Pharrell Williams, Susan Sarandon, Kevin Jonas, Alan Cummings, Richie Rich, Ana Matronic and Babydaddy of the Scissor Sisters and Leigh Lezark and Geordon Nicol of The Misshapes.

My lovely date Erika (who’s wedding I just got back from in Acapulco!) and I got there on the later side and the party was bumping! We had ourselves a little dance party, but didn’t hold a candle to Richie Rich. He decided to get up on stage and do an impromptu performance to Prince’s Raspberry Beret for us (this could be the best video ever–only thing missing, glitter!).

Kevin Jonas took a second from his phone conversation to blew us a kiss…

Then we concluded our night on one of Kiehl’s iconic motorcycles, where I thought we were taking pictures in a photo booth –even better, a flip book photo booth! Erika and I look insane. I love it!

If you’re in NYC check out the Kiehl’s Flagship Store at 109 Third Avenue. As part of their heritage project, they’ve included a brand-new installation of an interactive 160th Anniversary Retrospective at the store.  Cheers to you Kiehl’s for 160 years of great skin care products!

Pretty Connected Featured on The Look on TPN

Behind the scenes with Maggie Rulli

A few weeks ago, The Look, a new show on The Pulse Network, asked to interview me for a fashion and beauty segment. Hosted by the fabulous Maggie Rulli, The Look, is all about helping women be their most fabulous self by going behind the scenes and interviewing experts in health, beauty/skincare and the fashion industry.

The first of my two segments just aired! So here’s me talking spring fashion trends!

So what’s spring all about? 70’s, 70’s, 70’s. From the maxi dresses to high wasted pants the 70’s are what’s hot for right now. Platform shoes, cork and wood wedges. Well what am I still writing about, watch the segment! It’s all in there.

White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner

In the words of Seth Meyer’s (mere hours before the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner host would deliver these words in his speech), “its so amazing to be in DC, in all of this history, all these amazing buildings and yet here we are at the Hilton. The red carpet outside was amazing! ‘Who are you wearing’, ‘what does it matter, I’m going into a Hilton'”.

My sentiments almost exactly as I started getting ready for the WHCD pre-dinner reception. As I strapped on my long, black, Nicole Miller gown I needed about ten rounds of confirmation that I wasn’t overdressed. Both the dinner and all of the official pre-receptions were hosted at the Washington Hilton–I missed that on the invite. As you entered the hotel, the entry way is overhauled by photographers and press as you walk through the red carpet. Once you’ve passed the lobby, there are two floors of pre-dinner receptions hosted by various publications.

Amy and I headed to the 2nd floor for the CBS News/The Atlantic/NationalJournal pre-dinner reception. It was hosted in a tent on the terrace and it kind of felt like a wedding reception, except for the part where there are random celebrities walking around. That, and I’m not used to wearing a dress that falls below my knees.

My highlights included meeting Chelsea Handler who is hilarious, and getting silly with Vampire Diaries actors Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev who we’re so fun and seemed to be enjoying the photo-booth feature. And yes, they are very attractive.

Nina Dobrev, Lara Eurdolian (me!)

After the receptions, guests lucky enough to be invited to the official dinner filed downstairs while the rest of us watched from the lounge. It’s kind of amazing listening to Seth Meyers and Obama’s speeches knowing they are only mere floors below. Strangely enough several celebrities kept leaving the dinner to hit up the Bloomberg party –or some party that went through the lounge. The buzz of course being Sean Penn and Scarlett Johansson who power walked by twice, the first time holding hands, and the second with their arms around each other. I’ll it admit I was a little surprised to see the duo, but more so the amount of chatter in the room over it.

After the dinner, the lobby filled up with guests mingling and getting ready for the after parties. I took the opportunity to change and do a little mingling of my own…

Outfit change, then on to the Washington Life after-party. I mean seriously… this face has after-party written all over it (I lasted less than an hour).

White House Correspondents’ Association Weekend

While the world’s been obsessing over Kate’s dress, I’ve been doing a bit of that myself over what to wear to the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) parties. That’s right, I’ll be live from DC! I’ve been in LA all week and I’m flying direct to DC today, so I had some advance planning to do when leaving NY.

I think the winning dress is this lovely Nicole Miller number…

What do you think of my Nicole Miller dress?

Yours Truly Featured on the Today Show: Women in the Workplace

This morning I was on a segment for the Today Show (I was literally asked to do it last night), that circled around the challenges of working for women vs. men and my choice to get out of a full-time role and become a consultant (and start prettyconnected.com). The segment was derived from a recent study that women are not nurturing towards other women in the workforce and “men exceeded women in receiving job-related support from female supervisors”. Also that more than twice as many people would rather work for a man over a women.

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Fostering a career in the beauty/fashion industry has made me no stranger to female bosses. And it is disappointing to see segments of this nature and hear stories of nightmare women bosses and toxic working environments; what’s worse is the reality of the situation. Early in my career,

Pretty Connected Featured in Revlon’s “What’s Your Power Color” Video

Back in February, Lucky Magazine hosted their inaugural Fashion and Beauty Blog (FABB) Conference, powered by Revlon. Over the course of the day Revlon filmed a segment asking each of us two makeup questions: “What is your power color?” and “What is your power makeup pick?”

There were 150 bloggers in attendance at FABB and only a handful were featured. I am so honored to have made the cut–much less be be highlighted for both questions!

The video can also be viewed on Revlon’s Facebook page and new YouTube channel and Lucky Magazine’s Facebook page, so check them out and be sure to let them know what your power color is.

Speaking of video segments…I’m excited to announce that I’ll be collaborating with The Look on The Pulse Network. More details to come (and of course I’ll post it once I’m done with the shoot).

Susan Sarandon and Mary-Louise Parker Host a Benefit for Hope North

Susan Sarandon and Mary-Louise Parker Host a Benefit for Hope North

While generally my Sunday nights consists of sweats, my laptop and takeout (it’s a joyous ritual), I had a more exciting night planned for the evening. Susan Sarandon and Mary-Louise Parker we’re hosting a benefit for Hope North, a boarding school in Uganda for escaped child soldiers, orphans, and other victims of the country’s civil war. I posted the invite so hopefully some of you made it and bought tickets in advance since the event sold out! That’s quite a feat considering it was hosted at 13,000sq ft table tennis social club, SPiN New York.

Martha Wainwright, Rufus Wainwright
Jay Mohr, Nikki Cox

And apparently the line (even for ticket holders) was out the door and around the corner—I somewhat anticipated this type of reaction considering besides our lovely celebrity hosts, Rufus Wainwright, Josh Ritter, Jesse Malin, Joseph Arther and Martha Wainwright were all playing. I devised a not-so-solid plan for my date and I to crash the VIP cocktail party to avoid any unnecessary crowd shenanigans –I am the club’s #1 member. My club card should come with some perks… although even then I needed text message verification from one of the owners and contemplated an attempt to sneak in through the back (always a solid fall back plan). But for the record, I did buy my tickets and donate to the raffle.

I look like a deer caught in headlights w/ Judah Friedlander

I had a great time and played a lot of ping pong (Charlie Mars walked by my match and heckled me with a Steffi Graf comment).  I appreciated it. And seriously what better way to hit then with great live performances in the background. The last time I saw Rufus Wainwright live was 2005 at Sundance and I LOVE HIM. I was hoping he’d sing Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk, but it wasn’t in the line up.

The Benefit also had an awesome silent auction –I wanted the autographed Soup Nazi picture, but a friend, Roxy won it so I compromised with getting a picture of the picture of the Soup Nazi.

No Soup for You! But a picture for Roxy!

RecycleBank & AVEENO Brand Ambassador

My new badge!

You may have noticed some recent updates on my site, one of which is my fancy new AVEENO/Recyclebank partnership badge.  Well I have some exciting news, I’ve been asked to be a RecycleBank and AVEENO Ambassador!!! I’m one of 25 hand picked bloggers to receive this honor and as a result I’ll have access to products, events, and the inside scoop on both these great companies to share with you.

Part of my Ambassador perks (I love saying that!) was an all-expense paid trip to LA to cover this year’s Independent Spirit Awards. Unfortunately, I had a wedding that day (I REALLY love the bride), so I had to turn it down. Fortunately, I was still accepted into the program and as of this week had my first orientation.

If you’re not familiar with RecycleBank, you should check them out. They are all about motivating people to take actions that have a positive environmental influence by offering rewards for individuals making greener choices.
