Unconventional Beauty Tips

Sometimes you’re not at home to fix some of life’s little inconveniences.  So here are a few quick tips:

toothpastebandaid

  • You’re out on the town and you’ve broken a nail.  No nail file? Use either a brick off a building to file or even better a matchbook! This should help tie you over until you’re home and can properly file.
  • On a trip and you break out? Try eye drops on your blemish to diminish redness.   Also, toothpaste can be used to spot treat and help dry out that pimple so that it’s cleared up by morning.
  • A little nippy out? Turn your high beams off with Bandaid ActivFlex! They hide amazingly well under clothes.  I find this one hilarious!

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Nail Color

People seek different things when it comes to selecting and applying their nail polish.  Some enjoy the salon manicure experience, and some like to get creative with patterns and kits.  Others spend time applying a bottom coat, multiple layers of their chosen color, followed by a top coat (or something in between), all the while being ever so patient with the drying process to create the perfect at home manicure.

And then there’s the girl on the run.  And for that girl, there is Sally Hansen Insta-Dry Nail Color.  The wand is like nothing I’ve ever seen. Compared to the average size, it’s huge and it only takes one coat for full coverage.  The brush is amazingly precise and makes the polish so easy to apply.  (Make sure when dipping the wand, you wipe the excess polish on the edges of the jar, otherwise you may find

President Obama Wins the Nobel Peace Prize

I could come up with some clever verbiage on how the announcement of President Obama’s win of the Nobel Peace Prize today ties into beauty, but really it’s just huge news that I felt was worth announcing.  Click HERE for the NY Times article.

Legendary Fashion Photographer Irving Penn Dies at 92

Celebrated photographer Irving Penn died Wednesday at his home in Manhattan at the age of 92.   Considered one of the most influential fashion photographers of the 20th century, Penn’s global notoriety began in 1943 when he started working at Vogue.

“In my career, I have met no one else who worked with the level of imaginative intensity and economy of Irving Penn,” said Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. “His photographs were as exquisite and electrifying in the last year of his life as they were in 1943, when he started contributing to Vogue. To have been a colleague and friend of one of the greatest artists of the 20th century is a privilege greater than I could have ever imagined.”

Growing up, both Richard Avedon and Irving Penn captured everything I loved about fashion and brought such beauty and elegance to every shot they released.   When I read the headlines of Penn’s passing this morning, I could not help but feel very sentimental.  His photographs have deeply moved me and I appreciate them so much.  Rest in peace Irving Penn.

Yesterday, Claudia Schiffer told Italian magazine, Donna Moderna “I am finished with the catwalk and I won’t miss it.” While the 39-year-old German icon will retire from the runway, this is not her exit from modeling; she is after all the face of Alberta Ferretti’s new signature fragrance. “I continue to model and it’s a lot of fun – but no more fashion shows.”

Last week, the blonde bombshell reunited with fellow 90s supermodels Naomi Campbell and Eva Herzigova to celebrate the launch of Dolce and Gabbana’s D&G Anthology Perfumes.  The ladies appear in the print ads for this five piece collection of

This is a big week for fragrance with Jimmy Choo and Elie Saab both signing fragrance deals!

Jimmy Choo signed a 12-year fragrance licensing agreement with Inter Parfums effective January 1st.  Founder and president, Tamara Mellon, comments, “It has always been my vision to fully accessorize the woman, and fragrance is an integral part of the modern wardrobe.”   Feel free to dress me head to toe any day of the week!

Meanwhile, Elie Saab signed a 10-year fragrance (and cosmetic!) license agreement with Beauty Prestige International (BPI). “Creating a fragrance has become an essential step of the development of our couture house,” says Saab. “We have chosen BPI as a partner who is able to actualize our ambitions. We will create together a signature fragrance and an image that embody the DNA of our brand.”

I’m obsessed with Elie Saab, he makes some of the most beautiful clothing I have ever seen.  If this fragrance embodies any part of that man’s talent or ability to make a woman feel anything short of perfection, then sign me up!

Taking The Road Less Traveled -CEW Interview’s Liz Smith

One of the joys of subscribing to the Women’s Wear Daily (WWD) newsletter is every morning I receive an email with all a list of their top stories.  The September 18th headline read, ‘Avon President Smith Resigns’.  I immediately click onto the article, which basically said effective October 30th, Liz Smith resigns from Avon to become a chief executive officer – but where, what company?

Kiehl’s lets you Express Your POW!

I’m so glad Mercury is out of retrograde today because it was really messing with me this past week.

First, I had all my above 3 oz. beauty products taken from me at the airport.
