NYFW: Catherine Malandrino Spring/Summer 2013 Fashion Presentation

Catherine Malandrino presented her Spring/Summer 2013 Black Label collection, MAJESTIC this past Sunday. First off, every time I see Catherine, I’m struck by how stunning she is. Bringing her Parisian style to the world of sportswear the collection played with different shapes and textures ranging from leather and suede to crochet pieces mixed and matched in this wearable collection. The color palette went from pure white to pastels in the soft blue/green to purple range.

{The white dresses with their leather and mesh combination in geometric shapes we’re fabulous!}

{Love the balance of the styling: From high-wasted shorts and a button down to skinny pants with an airy top}

{Her signature crochet pieces in new shapes. The belted yellow onesie is s chic}

{Love the dreamy collage of pastels and fabric blocking in this collection}

NYFW: DL1961 Spring/Summer 2013 Runway Show

-PC Fashion Corespondent, Tiffany Piñero of Tiffany Piñero Style

Making their New York Fashion Week debut, denim line DL1961 held their first runways show this season at Pier 57 on Manhattan’s westside. The space was filled with the aroma of cotton candy and piles of the young, fabulous types. A few noteable names on hand were DJ Mia Moretti and electric violinist Caitlin Moe who entertained the crowd post show, along with singer, songwriter Neon Hitch and Kristin Chenoweth.

The show started out with a show in itself as the first model made her way down I thought, that is some kind of runway walk? Only to realize, she was one of a dozen professional ballerinas sashaying in white denim to the raging pipes of Florence and the Machine. Following the mini performance came the Spring 2013 collection which had styling contributions from Nylon’s Editor-at-large Dani Stahl. There was a distinct edge in the looks countered with ease by messy side braids and sunkissed faces. A pair of red leather pants with interesting topstiching and slim denim with rose gold hardware were the must-have highlights for the ladies. As for the gentlemen it was all about fit and signature washes, keeping looks clean with v neck tops and breezy cardigans.

W Hotels announces partnership with the CFDA {FASHION INCUBATOR} program

It’s hard to believe I started this week in Colorado and now have been so embedded in New York Fashion Week, I’ve hardly had a second to post about the amazingness that has been this week. On Wednesday morning I flew in on a red-eye (what a terrible) and bolted to the W Hotel in Times Square, for the unveiling of their big announcement with CFDA.

Nestled in a deconstructed EWOW Suite, Carlos BecilVP North American Brand Management, W Hotels, and Steven KolbCEO, CFDA, announced a new, fashion forward partnership between W Hotels and CFDA {FASHION INCUBATOR}. As some of you may know the incubator program provides support and major resources and contracts to promising fashion talent to help them grow and sustain their business.

Steven Kolb, CEO, CFDA

W will bring {FASHION INCUBATOR} designers out of New York City and into markets that are important to growing their businesses. The partnership will travel {FASHION INCUBATOR} designers to W Hotels around the country for fashion showcases and special events, providing exposure to new retailers, media and consumers to drive sales. Additionally, {FASHION INCUBATOR} designers will benefit from W’s deep-reaching digital and brand marketing channels.

FIT reunion! Hanging out with Daniel Vosovic

And it gets better! Double surprise for me when I walk in and Daniel Vosovic is there and one of the very talented designers partaking in the {FASHION INCUBATOR} program.

Fun fabulously dorky LARA/DAN fact: Before Daniel was on Project Runway, wrote his book and produced his namesake collection, we we’re RA’s together at Fashion Institute of Technology.

My congratulations go out to all of the other designers/labels in the program as well: Ari Dein, Burkman Bros, Emanuala Duca, Isaora, NUMBER: Lab, Reece Hudson, Timo Weiland and Whit. Rock it!

{Mood boards!}

Thank you W Hotels/CFDA for having me!

DEIVIE Spring/Summer 2013 Uh-Oh! Preview

Fashion week is in full swing!  And the lovely Michelle, blogger behind Amuse Bouche was nice enough to guest post for me and  cover the DEIVIE Spring/Summer 2013 collection on behalf of Pretty Connected!

###

Quite frankly you can never plan ahead when it comes to your wardrobe, am I right?! So getting a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the upcoming Spring/Summer 2013 collections to see what’s ahead gets me one step closer. DEIVIE Spring/Summer 2013 Uh-Oh! preview has me excited for a playful mix pastels coupled with metallic accents!

The collection is inspired by the 60’s, specifically the movie Alfie — the remake with real life play boy Jude Law.  This upcoming collection includes custom embroidery details on Peter Pan collared shirts, ornate bugle bead belts cinching the waists of skirts and dresses, mini dresses with whimsical wave hemlines and embroidery to enhance the female silhouette.

Sugar and spice and everything nice when it comes to this collection.  Just like the candy they were serving out and snacking on. I mean, how can you resist a candy necklace?

Looks like metallics are here to stay! This season it’s the hottest trend for manicures and next Spring and Summer it’s the same game plan just mixed with soft hues and pastels.

Are you a fan of the modern take of the 60’s look? I am.

LAGOS celebrates 35 years of fabulous jewelry with Pamela Pekerman

Celebrating 35 years of design and the launch of their Fall Winter 21012 collection, LAGOS Jewelry held an intimate soiree hosted by our good friend Pamela Pekerman. With the walls lined with illustrations and iconic pieces from the brands history, the jewelry line displayed their latest collections for guests to enjoy.

{Host Pamela Pekerman (wearing LAGOS “Muse” anniversary collection), with Yummie Tummie founder and Real Housewives of New York, Heather Thomson}

And enjoy I did. Put me in a room with fabulous jewelry, and I can’t help but play! Just look at the clasp on these earrings (pictured below). The lovely Jene Luciani and I got all Lag0s-ed up and snapped a few shots.

My image doesn’t do this collection justice (so I had to include a shot of the original design and close up as well).  The completely glamorous MUSE collection offers big, bold pieces in blue sapphire

Celebrating National Relaxation Day with Tommy Bahama (and upcoming NYC store launch)

Last night was an epically amazing evening filled with laughter, drinks and baseball – yup, I’m talking about National Relaxation Day with Tommy Bahama

Known for their relaxed, ‘island life’ style, the fashion brand brought their persona to life by treating us editors to an evening at Yankee Stadium. They had us so relaxed  at the upstairs bar suite, sipping our Bronx bomer beverages (featuring Tommy Bahama Rum), that I hardly noticed the rain delay was nearly 2 hours.

Then it was game on Yankees vs. Rangers and onto our box we went. In all my times at Yankee stadium, this was my first box experience, and it was awesome! I guess it’s Madison Sq. Garden that has me tainted since up until now I associate boxes with big plexi glass and being so far back you feel removed from the game – so not the case at Yankee Stadium. We had great views, no glass barriers, a stocked bar, and full on catering.

{Game on!}

While I’m not a Yankees fan (or Rangers fan for that matter) I did get a little glossy eyed when I ended up in the elevator with Brian Cashman — who was beaming over the Yankees win — and may or may not ended that ride by initiating some high-fives. (I’m the worst red sox fan on the planet.)

National Relaxation Day was just the beginning!  Launching in November, Tommy Bahama will premiere their first New York City Flagship store with what they call “Manhattan Island”. We’re talking in addition to a retail store carrying their apparel, footwear, accessories and homegoods collection; they will be opening a restaurant and bar. (It’s going to be massive!) The flagship will celebrate their “Life is One Long Weekend” philosophy which I fully support.
