Daniel Vosovic Fall/Winter 2013 Fashion Presentation

Daniel Vosovic AW13 Presentation

That Daniel Vosovic… I tell you, I’ve had the divine pleasure of knowing him and that million dollar smile of his pre-Project Runway (we went to college together) and watching that brilliant mind of his evolve is such a joy. Especially since this may be favorite collection of his yet! Inspired by the modern day female aristocrat (who has a hint of a rebellion in her).  This bold woman cravesa colorful,

Prints that make a statement: Duro Olowu for JCPenney!

DOO

Passionate about prints?  Head to JCPenney!  (Yes, you heard correctly I said JCPenny)  This season JCPenney is making moves with its new collaboration with London fashion designer Duro Olowu.   His name made headlines when outfitting Michelle Obama during the campaign trial.  This Nigerian-born designer naturally mixes graphic prints and astounding color great for confident women who love to make a statement.  The 70-plus-piece collection is fashion and accessories focused but some of my favorite peices were the home decor!

NYFW Karen Walker Fall ’13 Kicks Up The Cool

We have always looked to Karen Walker’s collections for that unexplainable hint of cool, with a splash of quirk. Well this season, the mix of textures was the perfect storm of feminine florals, drool worthy draping and a color palette that wouldn’t quit. Described as “An alternative view to prettiness” this menagerie of textured fabrics and super styling (no one rocks socks like the Karen Walker girl) proved that beauty has many layers, and some stellar accessories.

Suit Up for Spring Break #TargetStyle {Sponsored}

I never fully appreciated the amazingness that is Target for swim suit shopping until I found myself stranded in Connecticut at hotel with a hot tub that looked too good to pass up. I walked in thinking I would just buy whatever was on sale or inexpensive since functionality over flattery was all I cared about. I learned two valuable lessons that day, 1. Target has an incredible assortment of swimwear (including for us bustier ladies), 2. Bikini’s can be an impulse purchase — I walked out with 3 pairs (and didn’t even break $100 total).

With spring break around the corner, I recommend opting for one attention grabbing, fun-in-the-sun look as well as a more understated, classic suit.

Look #1: Show off your wild and crazy (it is after all spring break)

Target has also really brought it this season with a mix of great silhouettes and diverse patterns.

R29/DKNY Los Angeles bagThe authority on everything hip, Refinery29 kicked off their Mix Masters Series, a monthly event, where the website co-hosts an evening with one of our brand partner giving friends and readers a chance to mingle with their favorite R29 editors, while throwing back a few specialty cocktails and dancing the night away.

Last week Refinery29 partnered with DKNY in celebration of their new handbag collaboration (Check them out HERE, they launched 5 super cute styles, each named for a different city). The festivities took place at Above Allen in the Thompson Hotel. Guests were greeted by R29 editors and the DKNY team (their guest bartenders for the evening) while listening to tunes spun by G*Lee.

3/5 NYC Event: The Man Makes the Clothes: Pierre Cardin in Film

image001You can’t go wrong with the classics…. Especially when it comes to the costumes.  And if your anything like me and love fashion and everything french then your in luck!  Starting tomorrow, Tuesday March 5th the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF), presents the CinémaTuesdays film series The Man Makes the Clothes: Pierre Cardin in Film, a tribute to the pioneering Italian-born French designer that examines his contribution to some of the greatest French films of the post-war era.

Over the course of his seven-decade-long career, Pierre Cardin revolutionized women’s fashion, introducing an avant-garde, space-age design aesthetic that would become emblematic of an era. He brought Western fashions to Japan and China, and became the first designer to incorporate his logo into garments and license his brand. Cardin also applied his talent

Dip Dye is the New Ombre #TargetStyle {Sponsored}

target dip dyeWhether you call it an ombre, gradation or the more technical term when referring to clothing: dip dye, this is one trend that’s hot for spring. Basically, it’s the new color blocking. And from my hair (I’m still in the ombre phase) to my clothes and accessories, this is one fun accent to update your wardrobe with.

I recently stopped by Target (last call for the Prabal Gurung collaboration!), and saw a variety of dip dye items ranging from tops/sweaters (even workout tops!), shorts, bags, and scarves to beach hats.

Instantly gravitating to the Mossimo Dip-Dye Scarf ($14.99) — this is the perfect transition item from winter to spring (and can easily be carried out through fall). It gradates from white to a grayish/green tone to black (which basically describes my color scheme as of late). So until I break out the summer brights, the styling possibilities are endless. Plus the beauty of a dip dye scarf is the look changes based on how you wrap it.

NYFW: Backstage Beauty at Costello Tagliapietra Fall 2013 Fashion Show

I’m always in constant amazement of these two suspender wearing, burly gentleman Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra of Costello Tagliapietra and the beautiful, feminine collections they create every season. I just about told them as much when I finally met the duo last year at a party hosted by Cyndi Lauper (brain still exploding meeting that many people I admire in one night).

Costello Tagliapietra

This New York Fashion Week season marks the first time I went backstage for one of their shows. And I haven’t been able to get this red/pink lip created by Maki Ryoke for MAC Cosmetics out of my head ever since. Literally that punch of color (the combination of MAC Lady Danger lipstick with MAC Pro Process Magenta Pigment on top) took my breath away. If there’s one lip look I’d like to take away from this season, this is it!

Henri Bendel’s Summer Preview

There’s no place like Henri Bendel, there’s no place like Henri Bendel — it’s like the moment I step into that place, I just want to tap my heels and miraculously wake up and live there (accessories and bag assortment included). Recently, I get to peek their summer collection launching between April and June. Take a look at what’s yet to come:
