Backstage at Marc Jacobs SS2011 Show

NARS Cosmetics and Redken 5th Avenue joined forced to create the makeup and hair look for Marc Jacobs RTW Spripg 2011 fashion show.

LEAD MAKEUP ARTIST: François Nars, Founder & Creative Director of NARS Cosmetics
TREND: Glossy green eyes & deep matte lips

LOOK & INSPIRATION: “The look is very reminiscent of Angelica Houston in the 70s-the bleached brows and the deep eyes,” said François Nars. “I wanted them to look like iconic models from the 70s with a modern approach. Marc had images of what he wanted the makeup to look like – mimicking the colors of the clothing but not matching exactly.”

Get the look! Here are the key NARS products used for the show:

LEAD HAIR STYLIST: Guido Palau for Redken
HIGHLIGHTS: Guido created four different looks for the show, using lots of flowers and hats.  Inspired simply by “Marc’s clothes”, he used a combination of two Redken products, Thickening Lotion and Quick Dry 18 Instant Finishing Spray.

Fashion’s Night Out 2010

Tonight is the 2nd annual Fashion’s Night Out in NYC.  If there’s one thing I learned from last year is you can’t do it all. So pick an area, create a list of places you’d like to visit,  and expect lines for any of the stores with larger events since they generally are the ones to hit capacity the quickest. No matter what though if you’re in NYC don’t skip it because it’s a fashionista’s Halloween and one hell of a party.

I’ve made it through (most of) my emails and here’s some exciting happenings. For more information visit fashionsnightout.com and follow them on twitter @FNONYC

For the Love of Fashion Rag & Bone

Rag & Bone Designers Marcus Wainwright & David Neville with Director RJ Cutler

I got back to NYC from Burning man yesterday and it’s been a whirlwind ever since! Weeding through emails, trying to stay coordinated and create a calendar of events, but between Fashion’s Night Out and New York Fashion Week I’m at a loss.  I just returned from a place where phones and computers we’re foreign and time doesn’t exist, getting back into the swing of things is a little bit more overwhelming than expected.

Fortunately, I did check my mail, and found an invitation for a private screening of ‘For the Love of Fashion Rag & Bone’, a short film by RJ Cutler (the Director of The September Issue) at the Crosby Hotel. Jetlag was not keeping me from this (that and it was sponsored by Starbucks Frappuccino, so I knew staying caffeinated would not be an issue).  The film takes you on the journey with head designers of Rag & Bone Marcus Wainwright and David Neville in their final days prior to showing their Fall 2010 collection at NY Fashion Week. Not to spoil the ending but the collection is a huge success – to quote Anna Wintour “It’s very strong”.

Check it out for yourself, I found the video online for all of you to watch. Click HERE, enjoy!

Molly Crabapple for Dirtee Hollywood

I feel like I’ve been hearing the name Molly Crabapple everywhere these days. Known for her unique burlesque style animation, Molly has illustrated for a wide array of publications including Marvel Comics, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, as well as for NYC hot spot, The Box. She has also exhibited her work internationally as well as founded the Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School. Now Crabapple is entering the fashion world thanks to her recent partnership with Dirtee Hollywood, where she has designed for their Spring, Summer, and Fall tshirt collections.

Dirtee Hollywood celebrated the collaboration at Fred Segal in LA, and Atrium in NYC, where Pretty Connected had the pleasure of meeting Molly and watching her work (she literally transformed a blank canvas into a burlesque-vixen with an octopus before our very eyes (see pictures below).

Pretty Connected (PC): How did you come to be apart of this collaboration?

Molly Crabapple (MC): Dirty Hollywood approached me about a year ago. I had never thought I would do a fashion line before but they gave me complete creative freedom. They said ‘Molly you’re known for doing saucy Victorian girls, do saucy Victorian girls for us’ and it’s just been this wonderful collaboration ever since.

PC: How did you come up with the drawings for Dirty Hollywood?

MC: I suppose I should have a more rational explanation
