Pat Fields Hosts a BBQ + Announces New Store Opening in May!

While I had an amazing weekend in DC (come on, I got to cover the WHCD!), there was one little detail in NY that had me oh so missing the big apple… On Sunday, infamous style hero, Patricia Fields (who’s accolades include costume designer for Sex and The City and The Devil Wears Prada) through a “Global Warming Sun Set BBQ” to celebrate the warm weather and the opening of her new store in May!

Fortunately I was able to transfer my invite to stylist/blogger, Tiffany Piñero to cover the festivities for us!

{Tiffany parties it up with Patricia Fields!! — look at Pat’s rockstar red hair!}

Mega stylist Patricia Field and me, obviously I’m living for that moment.

On Sunday I had the spectacular opportunity {thanks to Lara at Pretty Connected} to attend The House of Field’s Global Warming Sunset BBQ to celebrate the warm season approaching and their new shop opening at the end of May! Fabulous weather was on the guest list, so the rooftop at 230 Fifth was even more extraordinary. Palm trees were grooving, avant-garde style was a plenty and Pat Field was in the house rocking out with the best of ‘em. My fab friend M fromBelles and Rebelles came with me {you can see her in my photos below, she is wearing the electric blue glasses and AH-MAZING costume jewels} and we had a ball absorbing all the fashion fever and unending fierceness.

How was that for a boat load of unique styling inspiration. House of Field’s guests were not fooling around.

The fact that I was able to meet THE WOMAN who has changed the face of styling , from Sex and the City to Devil Wears Prada and beyond… I am just, beyond. She was so cool, and so much fun, I was thrilled to join in the Global Warming festivities with such a cutting edge crowd. Looking forward to the opening of the new store, stay tuned for that!

Support Blondes vs. Brunettes: Fashion Bloggers unite!

Go BvB!! You know you want this shirt... (get it HERE)

While I’ve done several beauty and fashion partnerships, this was the first month where I was recognized in a national campaign by a beauty brand for my volunteer work — and for that I  am really honored to have had all of your support.

I do like to use my site to highlight ways for my readers to get more involved and support their community, which is why I’m excited to join my fellow fashion bloggers in support of Blondes vs. Brunettes.

Blondes vs. Brunettes, is a flag football game that pits blondes vs. brunettes to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association.  Last year alone, the New York chapter raised over $100,000, contributing to already $1,000,000 the organization has raised between nationally towards research.

Alzheimer’s is a cause close to my heart. I had a very difficult month with the passing of my grandmother. And while

A full Hollywood showing for the White House Correspondents’ Dinner

I wish Fred Armisen was my date to nerd prom! Until then I'll settle for a photo...

I find it extremely entertaining that I can completely burn out on the NYC event scene, and yet have the time of my life participating if it’s in a different city… Maybe it’s time to move or just that the weekend of The White House Correspondents Dinner (WHCD) DC is just that fun. (I’m going with the latter).

First off, the fact that the WHCD is referred to as nerd prom is kind of hilarious — which would only be outdone if it actually involved more cuberbunds, awkward glasses and the most outlandish frizzy hair possible; while in actuality it’s a very formal affair with the crowd dressed to the nines and more celebrities in one evening then all of fashion week combined.

The only people not expected to be on their best behavior is our President and host, Jimmy Kimmel who take the stage as though it’s an episode of Comedy Central’s Roast — and maybe Woody Harrelson as the representative of the stoner community.

{My lovely fellow writers with the ever-so-classy (and gracious) Diane Sawyer}

The event takes place at the Washington Hilton and right before the dinner the pre-cocktail events begin in the hotel. Amy and I hit up the CBS/National Journal/Atlantic party which was pact! We had a few glasses of wine, took pictures in the photobooth and mingled with the crowd.

{The most hilarious picture of Claire Danes and Bob Schaffer}

I saw Lindsay Lohan’s head pop through the crowd, but all eyes we’re on Claire Danes, who was standing next to Bob Schaffer! As I made my way over, he moved out of the way, so humble trying to not block the way; only to be surprised that he was the one I was gunning for! It didn’t seem appropriate to say, I’ve been watching you since I was a child, so I went with, “I’ve been watching you forever” — to which he replied, “I’ve been on forever”.  All I needed was Charles Osgood and my evening would be complete.

{Me and Bob Schaffer!}

Rosario Dawson, Mary J. Blige and Gayle King formed a nice corner and mingled amongst themselves and fans. Rosario Dawson, who is STUNNING (how is she not a spokeswoman for a beauty brand? Her skin is amazing!) and I bonded over Burning Man.

{Mary J. Blige could not have been sweeter}

{I’ll see you on the playa!}

{Rosario Dawson chatting with Gayle King}

{Mary J. Blige and Norah O’Donnell}

The cocktail party concluded and the dinner guests filed downstairs, while the rest of us formed a viewing party and had dinner upstairs in the hotel. It’s funny to eat dinner and watch Obama speak knowing he’s directly one floor below. Then once the dinner concludes we all regroup in the lobby, which is an even larger red carpet scene then the actual parties!

{Diane Keaton!}

{Barbara Walters!}

{Mother and daughter duo Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson}

{Bruce and Kris Jenner with Kim Kardashian}

{Calling Malin Akerman!}

{Viola Davis}

{I wonder what Ivanka Trump thought of the hits on her dad}

{I never thought Newt Gingrich would make my blog…}

{My lovely date Amy is wearing BCBG, and I’m in a one-of-a-kind hand made Daniel Feld (head designer for Kymerah), and Betsey Johnson jacket (pictured above)}

Eventually, I’ll update the Pretty Connected Facebook page with the whole album, so check back for more photos from the evening…

Kicking off WHCD Weekend with The National Journal/Funny or Die First Amendment Party

What better time to skip town and head to DC then during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner weekend? Last night I kicked off the festivities at The National Journal/Funny or Die First Amendment Party!

Rosario Dawson gave a speech, Charlese Theron held down the VIP section, while Rishanda Jones and Jon Favreau casually walked the room.

{Charlese Theron may just be the prettiest of them all}

{Rosario Dawson greeting fans}

The event was such fancier set-up then last year. Hosted in a former Borders bookstore, it was quite swanky and not without a sense of humor — Amy and I fully enjoyed the photobooth and ridiculous array of props.

{Amy and I hit up the photo booth!}

The White House Correspondents’ Dinner happens tonight hosted by Jimmy Kimmel at the Washington Hilton! I’ll be at the CBS/Atlantic pre-reception tweeting from the event. You can follow me @prettyconnected.

A Night with Fashion Star’s Nichole Richie and John Varvatos at H&M

H&M celebrated NBC’s ‘Fashion Star’ last night with a very fun bash at their Fifth Avenue location! Hosted by Nicole Richie (sigh, I love her) and John Varvatos (double sigh, I love his suits on men); they screened a sneak peek of the latest new episode while the drinks were-a-pouring and the waiters were serving up just about every type of dessert you could ask for.

PC Interviews ‘Mad Men’ Jessica Pare! Talking ‘Zou Bisou Bisou’, Don Draper & Her New Beauty Must-Have

After Sundays much anticipated 2-hour premiere of AMC’s Mad Men, which drew in a jaw-dropping 3.5 million views, we saw Jessica Pare really step into the limelight with her on-air performance of 60s hit ‘Zou Bisou Bisou’. On Monday, I posted that Lionsgate was releasing Pare’s rendition to iTunes (now available for purchase) and since then I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing the actress!

While she was careful not to give too much away about what’s yet to come for her character, Megan Draper (she’d hate to spoil the surprise) we did get some time to talk beauty, costumes, her new ‘Zou Bisou Bisou’ single and of course Don Draper!

How does it feel to be in the spotlight and to have performed the ‘Zou Bisou Bisou’ scene?

Jessica Pare (JP): I’m thrilled, it’s so exciting. I never thought I would make an actual single. [At the time] it was a gutsy  move and a lot of fun to do. And certainly a lot of the awkwardness and embarrassment was felt. I think

Lionsgate Releases Mad Men Star Jessica Pare’s Recording of ‘Zou Bisou Bisou’

Last night, like many of you, I tuned in for the highly anticipated 2-hour premiere of AMC’s “Mad Men”. Now in it’s 5th season, I think we can all agree the most unexpected moment (or for all you men out there, highlight) of the episode was Jessica Pare’s sultry performance of ’60s french pop hit ‘Zou Bisou Bisou’.

Loved her rendition? Well good, because it’s available for download. Lionsgate Television Music, the music arm of the studio’s TV division, is releasing Pare’s recording of ‘Zou Bisou Bisou’ (which loosely translates to “Oh you, Kiss, Kiss”).  The single was released digitally at midnight on iTunes, with special limited edition vinyl to be sold through the AMC store.

“Zou Bisou Bisou” was originally recorded in 1961 by British actress and pop star Gillian Hills. This new single of “Zou Bisou Bisou” is produced by Mad Men creator-executive producer Matthew Weiner, Lionsgate TV Music Head Russell Ziecker, Mad Men composer David Carbonara and recording engineer James T. Hill.

Oscar Beauty Trends: From Bold Lips to Beautiful Buns

Besides watching the Academy Awards every year to take note of every movie I need to add to my queue, I get equally excited (if not more so) for the red carpet coverage.  Then of course the next morning it’s fun to read all of the buzz and reactions to show’s fashion and beauty looks. Earlier, I posted some of my favorite looks, now hear from celebrity hairstylist and makeup artist Gocha Hawkins,  and owner of Gocha Salon on some of the big beauty and hair trends we saw from last night and how you can get the look.

Good Side

Stars like Busy Philipps, Maya Rudolph, and Stacy Keibler rocked the side-swept look. Gocha explains, how you can too: “The side-swept style was a big winner on the red carpet last night. With celebrities like Maya Rudolph stepping out with big, voluminous curls, many women will be coveting this look for prom and wedding season. This style works best for women with side parts, which provides a natural separation for hair. Create big, impactful waves with large hot rollers, and pull back the side with less thickness. Spritz with hairspray for hold. If you want to go with a more whimsical version of the look, you can secure with a hair pin that provides a little bit of a bling factor, and gives more of a guarantee that hair will stay in place.”

Head Bangers

There was no shortage of bold bangs on last night’s red carpet,as we saw from such celebrities as Rooney Mara, Rose Byrne, and Anna Faris. However, for some women, bangs are not as wearable, says Gocha. “The bob with straight bangs is really making a comeback as a look for the spring. Rose Byrne and Anna Faris really nail the look with sleek, smooth hair turned inward to define the bob cut. For women with long, oval faces, or heart shaped faces, blunt, straight bangs are a very flattering look. For others, different variations of a bang are more flattering, such as side-swept or soft, featured looks. It’s important to know the shape of your face when getting this cut, and consult your hairstylist before making the request. The biggest thing to remember with this look is that you’ll need to schedule regular trims. Every four to six weeks is the general rule of thumb to keep bangs looking their absolute best.”

Beautiful Buns

Tina Fey, Jennifer Lopez,and Sandra Bullock led the pack in stunning, upswept styles. Gocha explains, “I really love the look of the top knot that Jennifer Lopez wore on the red carpet. Overall, her look for me was a winner. The hair style really allowed the dress to shine, which is what you want when you are going with such a high impact frock. To get the look at home, start by pulling your hair into a high, slicked back ponytail, using a product such as a hair wax or pomade to create a smooth finish. If your hair is super fine, you may need to do some teasing at the base of the ponytail for a little volume, which I always appreciate with a top knot. Next, section hair into two parts and loop and twist around the base, wrapping everything with a small, sleek hair elastic.” To create a messier look similar to Tina Fey’s, tease hair at the crown for volume and pull into a lower bun that starts at the top of the back of your head.

Bold Lip

angelina-jolie-oscars-2012.jpg

There was certainly a winner in the makeup department last night, and that was the bold red lip. Stars embraced this look with confidence, and proved that the bold lip trend isn’t going anywhere. From Angelina Jolie, to Michelle Williams both worked the bold lip with very different gowns. “Angelina Jolie went the simple yet stunning direction with her dress, and she adopted the same mentality when it came to her makeup and hair. Paired with an uncomplicated, messy hairstyle, Angelina’s soft makeup with a bold lip highlighted one of her best assets. Keeping the other makeup minimal really lets the red lip shine and become the focus of the face. Michelle Williams used a
