Get the Look: 2 Broke Girls’ Hairstylist Reveals How-To’s used on the CBS Set

Lets face it for CBS’s hit comedy series, 2 Broke Girls, the lead characters Max (Kat Denning) and Caroline (Beth Behrs) may be broke, but there hair never looks anything short of healthy and fresh out of a salon — Max with her gorgeous frizz-free curls, and Caroline with her shiny blonde not-a-hair-out-of-place locks. Recipient of the 2012 People’s Choice Award for Favorite New TV Comedy, CBS’s 2 Broke Girls is a fan favorite starring the double duty beauty team of actresses Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs. Using White Sands Hair Care, Celebrity Hairstylist Pixie Schwartz shares how she transforms the actresses hair and how you can re-create their signature looks in 4 easy steps. I’m new to White Sands Hair Care, so I’m going to need to try this out!

Kat Dennings as “Max Black” styled by Celebrity Hairstylist Pixie Schwartz:

1. Apply a curl enhancing medium hold mousse to damp hair at roots and work through to ends – diffusing without a product can create frizz.

2. Divide hair into sections and spray on White Sands Liquid Texture Firm Hold Thermal Styling Spray focusing first

Brad Pitt for CHANEL No.5 Launches October 15th!

CHANEL is launching their first No.5 male fragrance which stars Brad Pitt as the face of the campaign! Slated for an October 15th launch — or at least that’s the date CHANEL released for their count down so I expect to at least see the packaging or know the top notes by then. I LOVE mens fragrances (even for myself) so curiosity is literally killing the cat over this launch.

All we know are the first words from the No.5 man, himself, Brad Pitt!

What’s the Mystery? (well besides what’s going on with Brad’s facial hair — is that a goatee?), just about everything about this launch. If you’re speculating over twitter, use the hashtag #CHANELN5. Otherwise stay tuned for more details on October 15th!

Helena Christensen Goes Behind the Camera for NUDE Campaign

I always forget that Helena Christensen is a photographer — maybe because she’s always imprinted in my mind as one of the most stunning models of all time. Recently, she partnered with NUDE Skincare to shoot their new “You Are More Beautiful NUDE” campaign featuring NUDE Co-founder Ali Hewson and her daughter, Jordon Hewson. The campaign celebrates the launch of the next generation of NUDE Skincare — capturing the essence of the NUDE brand. Which I interpret as they are going after a younger demographic.

I love the old school Polaroid camera!

PC Goes to Warsaw! A View of the Polish Cosmetics Industry

From the moment I stepped back into NYC last week the #1 question I’ve been asked is What we’re you doing in Poland?? Well besides instagraming and tweeting up a storm… (Thanks for noticing); HBA Global invited a handful of bloggers and buyers – I’m talking Felicia from This That Beauty, Danielle from The Style and Beauty Doctor, Heather from Beauty Unbiased, Alice of Miss Alice An, Rachel from Birchbox and me! — to attend the inaugural Polska Cosmetics conference and Beauty Forum Expo to learn more about the beauty industry in Poland.

{Team Poland: Danielle, Rachel, me and Felicia at dinner!}

I’ll be honest, prior to landing in Warsaw my knowledge of their industry was limited to – isn’t that where Inglot is from? Yes, it is! However after spending almost a week in that beautiful city, I learned so much!

For starters… how are these for some fun facts?

  • Helena Rubenstein was the first manufacturer to offer a sun-protecting cream and who popularized mascara and color face powders, was born and set up her first cosmetics company in Cracow, Poland.
  • Max Factor, also born in Poland… His real name, Maksymilian Fakorowicz.
  • The very 1st alcohol based perfume in history, “The Queen of Hungary’s Water” was created in the 14th Century thanks to it’s Polish namesake, Elizabeth, Queen of Hungary.
  • During the economic transformation post 1989, foreign companies such as Avon, Proctor & Gamble, and Colgate Palmolive invested in new factories in Poland.
  • Poland and Lithuania are the only countries in Europe where cosmetology is taught at a university level.
  • Poland is the 6th largest cosmetics producer in Europe.

Considering Poland is located in the center of Europe and is a member of the European Union coupled with their world-class research and development facilities, low employment costs, and high experience and flexibility within the industry opens them up to a world of possibilities (literally). And that hasn’t gone unnoticed.

In a 3 year effort to expose and grow the cosmetic and beauty industry, the European Union and Polish Ministry of Economy have co-financed The Promotion Programme; which will support the

NYFW: Backstage at Rolando Santana with Patrick Melville & Aveeno

Backstage at Rolando Santana Spring/Summer 2013 runway show, Patrick Melville created a very pretty, natural 70s beach chic blow-out using Aveeno products! His ultimate power tool being AVEENO’s NEW Pure Renewal™ Dry Shampoo. And best part is it’s easy to recreate at home and affordable (two adjectives not generally associated with fashion week!)

“I chose this subtle, 70’s inspired style that gently swept tresses around the face to give a wispy, natural look,” commented Patrick.  “The dry shampoo literally transforms the hair texture for more a more dramatic look.”

Using Aveeno products, here are 3 easy steps to create a beach-texture hair blow-out:

1.  Prior to blow-drying, apply a volumizing spray at root and smooth a styling glaze through the length and ends of damp hair.

2.  Blow-dry hair straight with

NYFW: Backstage at Venexiana Spring/Summer 2013 Show

Backstage at Venexiana was impressive! The hair, created by Philip Pelusi, Founder of Tela Design Studio and Tela Beauty Organics products was everything a runway look should be, exotic, unique and just complete artistry. With Symmetric rolls of hair, spun into a twist and around the sides of the models head, and then braided and pinned in the back out poured this stunning up do. To create the look, the team used Tela Beauty Organics by Philip Pelusi DRI SHAMPOO (Organic Dri Cleanser for the Hair and Scalp), COMPOSER (Organic Styling Product for All Hair Types) and HAIR GLOSS (Organic Elixer for Shine and Style).

There are elements of this style that would be achievable at home, however it took a lot of synthetic hair waived into the models real hair to create the volume and dimension.

{Backstage with Philip Pelusi}

Inspired by the Venexiana woman (who is not afraid to make a bold fashion statement), Mehron’s key artist Dani Fonseca created a dramatic yet versatile makeup look packing high-impact eyelashes to compliment the new collection’s vast range of colors.

“It was really exciting to work with a designer who loves color and makeup,” said Fonseca. “Mehron’s new iNtense Pro Pressed Pigments were essential for creating a look that mirrored the ferocity and elegance of the clothes on the runway.”

Salon Ruggeri’s Relocates to Murray Hill

Salon Ruggeri recently moved from their NYC Chelsea location to Murray Hill, bringing with them that great sense of style (you’ll wish you lived there). Much like their other location the salon still offers the intimate feeling of  walking into someone’s (immaculate) home and the privacy to just enjoy your hair treatment without the distractions of the outside world. Art and mirrors line the walls and the ceiling is adorned with a beautiful chandelier.

With the design of the salon, Gregorio Ruggeri (owner) and Craig Longhurst’s (interior designer) hope was that the warm aesthetic would give customers a feeling of intimacy – to make sure every person who comes into the salon gets more than just a hair cut, but an overall relaxing and comfortable experience.  To achieve this, only one client is booked for a service at a time.

As if a new location wasn’t exciting enough, the salon was featured in Instyle’s 2012 Beauty Black Book as the “Best Haircut” pick for new NYC salon. While I’ll have to back for a snip, I can attest that one of my best bombshell blow-outs was done by Cassie at the salon.

PC Celebrates Lucky Magazine’s NEW Ultimate Style Guide

Friday night, I joined Beauty and Fashion News Director of Lucky Magazine (who’s actually my favorite beauty editor), Jean Godfrey-June for the kickoff of Lucky’s NEW Ultimate Style Guide.

I know what you’re thinking, isn’t that what they produce every month in your subscription? Yes, and no — unlike the magazine (which focuses on what’s new, trends and where to buy/shop), there’s no selling in The Ultimate Style Guide (I’m talking no outfit credits, prices or where to purchase info). Instead, it’s is all about showing you how to style and accessorize similar pieces you already own (or will want to own after reading). It also covers their favorite beauty products, tips and secrets. Laid out like a magazine but organized like a book, the guide is separated into 13 chapters (each article: dresses, jackets, bags… to beauty; hair, skin, makeup have their own section) to give you “Every Fashion & Beauty

NYFW: PC Backstage + Front for the The Blonds s/s 2013 Runway Show with Amanda Lepore, Paris Hilton and Adam Lambert

Makeup by MAC, Hair by MorrocanOil, Nails by CND

There really is NO fashion show like The Blonds. It’s the show I look forward to the most every season — the energy, the outfits, the trannys… it’s so much fun! And this season the queen of this scene, Amanda Lepore was there!!!

There are 3 parts to the show — the backstage, the audience, and the runway show. Yes, all shows have all three but what sets this show apart is each of these elements could be an event in and of themselves.

The theme fore this years collection: “Psycho Beach Party”. Can you hear the JAWS theme song in your head? (You will soon.)

BACKSTAGE:

So, starting with backstage, Phillipe (The Blonds ultra sexy designer and creator) is prancing around getting beautified for he/her big moment — she’s also a model or rather the star of the show.

CND’s Kristina Estabrooks created the nails which consisted of an elaborate array of detailed designs including Shark Bites, skinny dip blue, and red caviar over CND Colour in Blackjack!

Seriously though, how ridic are the 3-D black shark nails???

MAC Cosmetics did the makeup focusing on the on the eyes . Working an exaggerated black liner below the lower lashes coupled with mega fake lashes on top for some extra drama.
