So many of you know I was in LA last month shooting with Carefree and Glam.com some segments. Our first video campaign just launched and features my travel tips on “How to Pack Like A Pro” — and how to pack smart for a weekend trip.
All of the clothes and electronics in the suitcase are out of my closet and it was so fun to have full control over the tips and wardrobe.
Do don’t let your weekender weigh you down, here are my tips on how to pack like a pro… carefree!
Tip #1: Bring an Extra Bag
– I tend to condense everything into a carry-on so there isn’t mush wiggle room for shopping. Which is why I like to pack an extra bag that I can lay flat in my suitcase. Featured in the video is LeSportsac Voyager Backpack in the Tuileries print. It’s completely waterproof, fits my laptop with ease and great for the beach, rainy days and everything in between. It’s a great travel bag to pack! If you’re going for something more classic and preppy, Longchamp Le Pliage Totes are also a great pick!
{The “fun go-out bags” featured in the video are Miss Selfridges Going Out Out clutch, and a Rebecca Minkoff bag from a few seasons ago. The suitcase featured in this video is the Henri Bendel West 57th Small Wheelie}
Tip #2: Plan Your Outfits
When I pack, I like to do what I call the edit. I take everything out of my wardrobe I want to pack and ask myself which I’m more likely to wear. And then take out items accordingly. I like to plan 4 different outfits for a weekend vacation, and 3 different pairs of shoes. The key is to pick items that are easy to mix and match and pack great basics, along with some statement pieces.
Outfit credits left to right from the video:
#1: Forever 21 hat, Fotini scarf, Express black track jacket, Dorothy Perkins Going Out Out bag, American Apparel black leggings, Rag & Bone wedges.
#2: Vince white tank, Forever 21 denim shorts, Modern Vice Chloe Ankle Boots
#3: Express custom dyed Boyfriend Denim jacket (see similar), Rebecca Minkoff bag, H&M Crackled Metallic Skirt, Rag & Bone wedges
#4: H&M white knit sweater, MinkPink Native Nights pants (also seen on Cara Delevigne), Converse Chuck Taylors
Tip #3: Gadgets Galore
I like to travel with a number of electronics, including my Frends Taylor Oil Slick Headphones (I like to travel in style, and they are by far the coolest headphones I own), a myCharge Hub6000 backup phone battery (it has 27 hours of talk time and includes an outlet in the charger so it can be recharged when you’re on the go) and my Sol Republic Bluetooth DECK Wireless Speaker (which has a range of 300 feet, 360 degree of full sound).
Not featured in the video, but I’ve also recently become obsessed with the Lenovo Yoga 10 HD+ Tablet and Olloclip 4-in-1 Photo Lens (see my reviews HERE).
Tip #4: Beauty on the Go
Make sure to pack your beauty products in a waterproof bag (if something leaks, you want to be protected). It’s also a great time to use samples — especially since everything has to be under 3oz. I have a draw where I put ones I get from Birchbox or Sephora or anywhere else I seem to accumulate them from. I have so many sample fragrances that I usually always have one in my makeup case and one in my travel bag. If you have a signature fragrance, a refillable atomizer (they are usually around $10) is a great investment since it turns any fragrance into a travel size spray — plus they are refillable! And most importantly, don’t forget your SPF!
Also for any feminine products, like Carefree, my #1 tip is to put them in a sachet bag. Not only does it look chic in your luggage or purse, you never know who’s going through your bags at the airport!
That’s it! I hope you enjoyed my tips. If you have any feedback or additional tips, leave a comment or tweet me @prettyconnected
