I’m going to be honest, I thought there were a lot of pretty dresses, no overwhelming fails but I didn’t have that take-my-breath-away moment over a gown. The closest I got was Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace. She looked absolutely stunning in the white gown. And it’s impressive when you can wear white and look like you’re walking down the red carpet instead of walking down the aisle. And with a white tux and red bow-tie, yes, I’m talking about Jared Leto… The high school dreamboat (Jordan Catalano forever!) who won Best Supporting Actor for “Dallas Buyers Club”, won my best dressed category as well.
Rocking a perfect ombre, Leto originally was set to sport a wet side-parted low bun, but then at the last minute, they decided to embrace his wavy locks. Styled by Chase Kusero using Vidal Sassoon Pro Series, Jared’s hair look was a two-day process. Chase used the Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Waves Collection the night before and then freshened up Jared’s hairstyle the next day with the ColorFinity Dry Shampoo.
Kate worked with Chris McMillan, Living Proof celebrity hair stylist for her classic 1940s hair look. “The key to this hairstyle was Living Proof Prime Style Extender. Because of the rain we needed to use a product that would seal the hair and protect it from all the moisture… I started by applying the Prime to wet hair before blowing it dry with a round brush. I added a strong side part to the hair for a touch of glamour and applied Living Proof Satin to the ends. I then used a 1-inch curling iron to curl the ends and brushed them through with a Mason Pearson Boar Brush. I finished the look by spraying Living Proof Flex to give it a light hold.”
Also both of their mom’s won my best parents dressed award!
Other notables of course included Queen Lupita Nyong’o (I mean come on, she was Oscars royalty last night). She glowed and looked very feminine and pretty (don’t get me wrong) but the Prada dress opposite the Fred Leighton jewelry was a bit more youthful then I would have gone for the 31 year old actress.
I do not know what E!News was thinking putting Glenn Close on the worst dress list. I loved it! I thought her black Zac Posen gown was age appropriate and very Oscar worthy.
Karen O was another red carpet favorite with a low plunge black Camilla Staerk dress and Forevermark jewelry (she also looked stunning during her Oscars performance). Her makeup by Mike Potter was flawless! I also thought Pink looked great and she carried that red dress perfectly while she performed!
Also high on my list was Cate Blanchette in Armani Prive and Chopard jewelry, Jessica Biel in Chanel Haute Couture and Tiffany & Co. jewels (makeup by Kayleen McAdams, using Kiehl’s skincare and ck one makeup with Tarte Lip Surgence in Lucky on lips), Kerry Washington in Jason Wu and Jennifer Meyer jewelry and of course Charlize Theron in Dior Haute Couture and Harry Winston jewels. Jennifer Lawrence looked great with her hair slicked back and I thought her Dior Haute Couture dress matched with Neil Lane jewelry and Salvatore Ferragamo bag was elegant combo.
Everyone made a big deal about Penelope Cruz’ pink Giambattista Valli Haute Couture dress but if I had to pick a pink favorite it was Camila’s Alves who admittedly the gown had too much fabric but the color opposite her Votre Vu makeup and vbeaute skincare (created by celebrity makeup artist Patrick de Fontbrune) looked so natural and beautiful.
I would say the biggest red carpet trend I saw was plunging v-neck neck lines. Which a few of my top ladies listed above rocked.
