Sandy Relief Efforts: How to donate supplies!

My AMAZING friend Jennifer Walsh has organized a  work center and has created an easy list of supplies needed. If you’re looking to donate supplies (whether you’re in our out of New York), email: [email protected] to get involved. All the information is below and here’s the link to the original post on her Tumblr page: behindthebrandmedia.tumblr.com.

YOU’VE ASKED HOW YOU CAN HELP AND WE HAVE HEARD YOU!

We have set up a work center and will organize everything and now have found the vehicles to take things to places in need: top of the list are Breezy Point,  Staten Island, and Rockaways, in the coming days.

If you are from out of town and would like to send a box of something for the cause, we could really use it. It is very hard to get supplies in NYC right now. Resources are depleted and suppliers are having a hard time keeping items on shelves. It is also difficult to transport locally because gas is impossible to get. Busses, cabs and cars are waiting for hours to buy fuel and there is barely enough then.

Please, if you can go to your local dollar store and fill a box with one or two items from the list below, that is helpful enough. If you know manufacturers or brands personally who can donate in bulk (LL Bean for Boots or Hanes for socks and underwear or J&J for first aid kits or OTC meds) that would be helpful too!

Here is what is needed the most:

WORK SUPPLIES: Work gloves, plastic cleaning gloves (latex and non), eye goggles and masks – the cleanup is toxic and this is essential for safety

LIGHT AND POWER: Batteries (A, AA, C, D) , Flashlights, Candles (BIG), dinner candles, Power strips for those with power to run to other places

CLEANING PRODUCTS: Bleach, sponges, steel wool/brillo pads, scrub brushes, mops, brooms, laundry detergent, dish soap, degreasers, Huge black garbage bags (the strongest ones you can find in bulk)

CLOTHES: unless its winter stuff we don’t need it (it is cold here, going to be below 30 degrees at night this week). Thick socks, underwear, hats, gloves, scarves, kids jackets and clothes, coats, sweatshirts and sweatpants, long underwear, old blue jeans and long pants. Anything practical and warm that can get dirty and cleaned easily.

SHOES: men, women, and children’s work boots and tennis shoes. Old or new, doesn’t matter.

BEDDING: Blankets, sleeping bags, camping supplies.

FOOD: Meal replacements (bars and drinks) – We need things with high protein, high calories, high nutrients (Ensure, Boost, Cliff Bars, Power Bars or Luna Bars). Nuts and raisins are also helpful.

Toiletries in bulk: Toilet paper, paper towels, wipes, feminine products.
Baby items: Diapers, baby food, formula, bottles, powder, ointment.

MEDICINE: Advil, Tylenol, Cold medicine, cough drops, first aid kits (especially important)

We need your help and will go the distance with you to organize and distribute as needed! Please let us know what you’d like to do! Anything will help!!!

Email me here: [email protected] and I will give you the address to drop off or where to mail the items to. Again, Thank You SO much for helping in the relief efforts!!! They are appreciated more than you will ever know!
