Me time, yogurt and Aveeno

Having grandparents that were born in Greece, the benefits of yogurt are not lost on me. In my family though the do it all fixer wasn’t Windex, but in fact yogurt. Growing up I had really sensitive skin and was allergic to red dyes. Every now and then I would get flare ups and yogurt would always calm it down. It helped relieve the insatiable itch and dry skin. Yogurt is filled with nourishing and healing nutrients as well as lactic acid, which is a popular AHA that helps dissolve dead skin and tighten pores, and often see it in DIY face mask and skincare recipes.

Aveeno, known for their Active Naturals ingredients which harness the power and calming properties of oatmeal has blended this with the nourishing ingredients found in yogurt to launch the new Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Body Yogurt ($7.99) and Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Yogurt Body Wash ($7.49).  Available in two delicious scents, Apricot & Honey and Vanilla & Oat the Body Yogurts and Wash feature their new ACTIVBIND Complex. This makes up the body yogurt formula, which maintains all day contact with skin for long-lasting moisture and contains essential vitamins, lactose, proteins, lactic acid and lipids found in yogurt.

8 Tips I learned from Mario Dedivanovic aka @MakeupbyMario Master Class

When Mario Dedivanovic aka @makeupbymario comes to town, every beauty enthusiast wants a piece of him. If you follow him on social, you know he’s the real deal — and not just because he’s the preferred makeup artist to the Kardashians. Makeup artists around the world line up for his Master Class to learn from him and watch him work. His A-list clientele speaks volumes, as does the fact that his client following is so strong that he’s unavailable some will book him the night before and sleep on their backs so they are makeup ready the next day!

While I’ve meet Mario before — I once cornered him once at Khloe Kardashian event, the opportunity to watch him work in person came from Jergens, who sponsored his latest Master Class this past weekend in NYC. His legendary Master Class’s which often Kim Kardashian West as the model, are set in NY, London and Dubai. He started with 20 students 7 years ago and now sells out and is one of the most sought after makeup artists. During the sneak peek event, Mario did a ‘quick’ makeup look while answering questions. Here’s what I learned:

A day with Kiehl’s… making a difference and making serums!

kiehls-feeding-america-city-harvest

Yesterday, I had an epic day with Kiehl’s. The skincare brand has always held a special place in my heart since they have amazing products, do so much good, and I used to work for them! I actually helped launch their social media a million moons ago so stepping back into their corporate office yesterday brought me so much joy. And even more so because it was for an amazing cause! kiehls-faile-feed-america-creme-de-corms

Kiehl’s partnered with Feeding America for their charitable holiday collaboration designed by the artist duo FAILE with 100% of the net profits of the “Collection for a Cause” to support Feeding America, up to $100,000. And it’s all of Kiehl’s top selling products in limited edition packaging so why not stock up on your favorites while making a major difference. Just this 3-pack of their Hand Salve ($34) will provide 295 meals, and this Creme de Corps Classic Whipped Body Butter ($15) is going to provide 85 meals! View the whole collection HERE! This is Kiehl’s 3rd year partnering with the organization and has donated $300,000 to date which is 3 million meals to those in need.  Food insecurity is a major issue in America. 42 million people are food insecure in our country and  1 out of every 6 children faces hunger.  That’s 13 million children in the US who may not be able to eat dinner tonight.  With this collaboration Kiehl’s will help provide over 1 MILLION MEALS to families in need this holiday season.  I spent the morning with Kiehl’s and Feeding America helping pack meals for City Harvest. Alongside my fellow beauty editors we put together and donated 400 meals!

Do you live in a Wrinkle-Prone City? RoC has the answer!

roc-skincare-spf-30

Are you more apt to get wrinkles based on where you live? You bet. RoC Skincare partnered with independent research firm Sperling’s for the Best Places for the 2016 RoC® Wrinkle Ranking study: a city by city look at the metropolitan areas’ risk for skin damage and premature aging by the year 2040. The analysis is based on factors commonly known to affect skin health – lifestyle, occupational and environmental influences… Living in NYC, I’m well aware I’m at a deep disadvantage due to my lifestyle and pollution levels! Until now though, I had no idea how we ranked to other cities. Did your city make the Most Wrinkle-Prone city list? Find out below and click HERE for the complete ranking.

Funny enough, I grew up in the Cambridge, MA area (ranked #20) and have spent the past 15 years in NYC (ranked #8). My two cities make the top 20 list by 2040! Good thing I drink a million cups of water, wear SPF and take incredible care of my skin. In shocking news, Denver will hit the #2 rank (maybe it’s the altitude?), just under Philadelphia – who knew they would out wrinkle us all.

Tech

Besides using an SPF everyday (a minimum of 30 everyone!), one of the best things you can do to prevent and help existing wrinkles is adding a retinol into your skincare routine. I have a deep attachment for the RoC RETINOL CORREXION collection. Their Deep Wrinkle Serum first serum I ever used, even though I probably didn’t have single wrinkle at the time. In fact I’ve always called it the RoC Serum and don’t think at the time paid much attention to the Deep Wrinkle title when first using it. My stepmother was actually the one that turned me on to the RoC RETINOL CORREXION collection before my career in beauty started over ten years ago. She’s a 20 year loyalist, religiously using the RoC RETINOL CORREXION Daily Moisturizer and Night Cream (she buys the combo pack from Costco). Those have been two of her staples for the past two decades and since then has added in the Eye Cream and Max Resurfacing Cleanser to her everyday routine. She’s 53 people! Just look at how amazing she looks!

Olay Launches Eye Collection for Every Concern

olay-eyes-collection

I attended an Olay breakfast over a month ago for an advanced preview of their Olay Eye Collection which launches this month. I’m a huge Olay fan, especially of their Regenerist line and it’s with good reason they are the #1 trusted facial skincare brand — they pour so much research and testing into their products. This event made me hyper aware of something I’ve subconsciously known for a while — not everyone speaks beauty. I find this especially so when I’m trying to pick out products for my sister.  We say things like look for products with antioxidants and peptides, and your average person just wants to know how to get rid of their dark circles. And thus Olay has identified five eye aging patterns that affect 95% of women and created a line of eye products to address each. The five piece collection is easy to navigate, digest and has something for dark circles, puffiness, wrinkles, sagging and all of the above.  I’ve actually been using the entire collection ($24.99 each) and really impressed by them all.  They can be layered or used alone and deliver an instant result. Here are the product details:

Credo Beauty Opens in NYC

credo-be-your-own-kind-of-beautiful-nyc-opening

I’m way overdue for a trip to San Francisco and one of the beauty stores on my radar to visit while there was Credo. So when an invite came for the opening to their store in NYC, I was so excited! With just months after Space.NK moved to Nolita, the new Credo store is located on the same street, just a few blocks over at 9 Prince Street.credo-store-nyc

For anyone not familiar with Credo, it has that same smartly curated beauty boutique feel you’d get from a Space.Nk or Blue Mercury but their schtick is all natural and organic beauty brands. So you’ll see minimal to no cross over from these stores or Sephora. Spanning 900 sq feet, the Credo store offers products from 100+ brands from all over the world spanning face, hair, body and makeup. We’re talking brands like Tata Harpour, W3LL People, Ilia, Indie Lee, Juice Beauty,RMS, African Botanics, Cocovit, Evolvh, Dr. Jackson’s, Fig + Yarrow, Graydon, Herbivore, Innersense, Intelligent Nutrients, Kahina Giving Beauty, Kjaer Weis, Lurk, Marie Veronique, MV Organic Skincare, Nu Evolution, Rituel de Fille, Sans (ceuticals), Skin Owl, Strange Invisible, SW Basics, and Vapour.

Melanoma Monday PSA: Friends don’t let friends get sunburns

sunburn2

Friends don’t let friend’s get sunburned was a funny caption I put on a photo during Coachella, when two of my blogger babes got burned while camping in the desert. While I can make light of it in a post, truth be told this is something I take very seriously. It’s easy to miss an application but at least they know better. Especially with the SPF police breathing down their neck — I had my Aveeno sunblock in my bag (another in the car), I preach but out of love! The fear is real. Next year, I’m asking for samples and going to start throwing them at people. For them it was a mistake, they do know better and it’s not a habit. You just can’t get away with forgetting in the dessert the way you can on your way to work. For so many it’s not a habit, it’s not even something they packed! By the third day of Coachella I was shocked by the amount of sunburns I saw.
sunburn-coachella

Like this insane ones this girl has, who I totally creeped up on to take a back shot. Apparently some people were missing my daily public service announcement on snapchat to wear SPF! It’s Melanoma Monday and with music festival season fully in bloom and summer around the corner, now more than ever (although everyday) you really do need to consider SPF in your routine. Here’s why:

  1. Skin aging is often due to sun damage. It slows down the development of wrinkles and premature aging. Literally every beauty expert will tell you their #1 anti-aging tip is to wear sunscreen.
  2. The sun is strong even when it’s not sunny out. UV light penetrates windows, clouds… so over cast will not protect you. Neither will your office window or car window if the sun is shinning.
  3. Damage happens within the first two minutes of being outside. The ozone layer is depleting and our bodies need shielding from harmful rays.
  4. Because the risks of skin cancer are real people and sunscreen has been proven to decrease the development. One of my friends who I was with at Coachella had Melanoma, and now stays out of the sun or bathes in sunblock if she is going to be exposed. Fortunately, she’s has been cured but it is important to have your moles looked at. Early detection is almost always curable. But so many don’t get checked and the reality is Melanoma kills an estimated 10,130 people in the US annually. Scary stuff!

aveeno-spf

I obviously care about my skin and love skincare but at a very basic level everyone should wear SPF. Three of my must-have products for Coachella and what I recommend for anyone hitting the music festivals this season is of course Aveeno’s Protect+Hydrate Broad Spectrum SPF 50 for Face (which I often used on my body if I’m only packing one sunblock for the day, I also had the body version). It’s affordable and effective, I burned through two bottles in a week with all the applying and sharing it with James and friends (sharing is caring people when it comes to SPF). Also the Aveeno Ultra Calming Makeup Removing Wipes, which are gentle and refreshing. I would use throughout the day to cool my body down and at the end of the day to wipe all of the sand, dirt and makeup off my face before cleansing. I like that it has a plastic closer on the packaging to keep the towelettes from drying out. Sometimes when it’s just a seal I find the adhesive weakens and air gets in.

Lastly my latest Aveeno discovery, the Positively Radiant Daily Cleansing Pads. These gently exfoliate everything off (I used them on my face and feet — sandals are not your best friend at Coachella), and the skin revealed is so soft and glowing! And the pad size is generous! Whatever was missed by the makeup wipe is coming off with this and then some. It is important to get the dead skin cells off, it will make every product you use after that much more effective since that layer of skin is no longer an obstacle of the product penetrating.

LANO now available at NET-A-PORTER!

lano

Do you have any idea how long I’ve been trying to get my hands on Lano 101 Ointment Superbalm? It was the one product line I forgot to pick up while in Australia — I don’t know how it slipped my mind! Fortunately, the cult favorite and award winning lip balm (like literally winner every beauty award ever), alongside favorites from the collection have landed in the US and are exclusive to Net-A-Porter.com.
