Kara Ross Fall/Winter 2012

Kara Ross, enchanted by her travels to the Sahara, introduced a Moroccan inspired collection for Fall 2012. Using vibrant colors such as deep purple, emerald green, indigo and sand she invokes the feel of foreign lands.  The collection is true to Kara’s style, statement pieces using beautiful stones and exotic skins. These over-sized jewels are not for a wallflower!  A bold theme throughout the collection was the carved stone scarab, an ancient beetle indigenous to the Sahara.

Her classic handbag collection is offered in vibrant colored skins, which are custom died for the collection. Debuting a new style with the working professional in mind the “Trinity” bag offers plenty of space for necessities as well as a designated spot for an iPad.

What I appreciate most about Kara Ross is that she has unique investment pieces. You wear a Kara Ross, chances are that’s going to be the accessory you’re getting a compliment on for the evening. Look a these beauties:

PC at Rebecca Taylor Spring 2012 RTW Collection

Rebecca Taylor was true to her reputation for S/S 2012 offering feminine, wearable dresses and separates that move with the body. Unfortunately, iPhone’s video capabilities and Fashion Week lighting are not a winning combination, but here’s a quick peak at the finale of the show:

“Inspiration is so ephemeral,” said Taylor, stating that she picked up her inspiration from a hodgepodge of places. Aiming to set a contemporary, fresh, and ethereal tone to the designs, the collection emphasizes cut and color with unexpected cut-outs in sibhouettes. This was reflected in her collection which mixed flowy materials and sparkly embellished tops, with some structured dark colored dresses. Also white, neon yellow, floral prints as well as a few dark black and blue pieces were thrown in, creating this disjointed palette. Although the collection lacks the drama and excitement of many runway shows, it is very wearable and I am sure the retails buyers were marking their favorites to display this Spring.

My two favorite looks from the collection included

Fashion Week Makeover

Stephanie Winston Wolkoff

Starting Spring 2010, NY Fashion Week is moving from Bryant Park to Damrosch Park at Lincoln Center.  This week Stephanie Winston Wolkoff was named Director of Fashion Week reporting to the President of Lincoln Center, Reynold Levy.

“We see Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week coming to Lincoln Center as an opportunity to welcome the design community. For Lincoln Center, this partnership is a natural one that we want to fully embrace, and because our campus of 16 acres has so many different places in addition to the tents for fashion shows, we want to make sure those spaces…are as welcoming and as inviting as we possibly can for the design community,” said Levy.

Considering how hard the news of Fashion Week moving out of Bryant Park was for many of us, Lincoln Center has some pretty high heels to fill. Fortunately for Levy, having the former director of special events for Vogue [Winston Wolkoff] on your team is a step in the right direction.

I look forward to what they have to unveil.
