To be the first show of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, that has a call time of 7 am no less, is quite the fete. However, Nicholas K is always up for the challenge. Nicholas K started off fashion week with a display of garments that had elements of delicate draping and utilitarian strength. This mix of sensual techniques balanced by rugged accents were said to be inspired by the Apache reservation the designers spent time at during their childhood. The entire look transported the crowd to another place, where the planes are endless and the sun beams are intense.

Let me start by saying that I’m a HUGE Tina Turnbrow fan, and yet I’ve never had the pleasure of meeting her. So when I found out she was the celebrity makeup artist leading the Fall 2013 Nicholas K show on behalf of NYX Cosmetics I was all in!
When asking Tina about the look she said, “it’s very arctic/nomadic princess, kind of cold. The eyes are strong, the lips and the skin is very pale. There’s no mascara, the look is more on the raw side. We’re contouring the face to give a little sharpness and tougher feel.” Watching Tina Turnbrow work is a pleasure, the detail she puts into blending and creating those eyes was a work of art.
