IT Cosmetic’s CEO Seriously Inspires Us

Jamie Kern It CosmeticsI’ve talked about how much of a girl boss the CEO of It Cosmetics is before, but wow does she ever continue to impress. Jamie Kern Lima, co-founder, and CEO of the brand accepted the CEW Achiever Award, which recognizes the accomplishments of women leaders within the beauty industry. Jamie took her acceptance speech as an opportunity to call for change within the beauty industry, challenging the current images of beauty that are being put out in the world today.

“How will these images impact your mothers and your sisters, and how will they impact your daughters?” In closing her speech she asks, “What will you do with the power that is you?” Anyone else have a minor case of chills?!

Palm trees and Panama Hats

There really isn’t anything quite like a 3 day weekend to hit the recharge button, especially when you have an exciting 4 day week to look forward to. The beauty and booze lover in me are both being appeased between the FounderMade Beauty Summit on Friday and then Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic on Saturday, which ahem Alicia Keys is performing at! They are really going all out for their 10th Anniversary, I CAN NOT WAIT. I’m also looking forward to being with Nylon on Friday for the celebration of their music issue, which is awesome since it saves me the trip to Barnes & Nobles to buy every issue. Also Charlie XCX is performing and hopefully Tove Lo who is hosting the event.

BITE Launches The Lip Pencil

Bite Beauty has done it again with their latest launch of The Lip Pencil. I’m addicted to lip liners so this launch I’m especially excited for, although I am one to use their Matte Cream Lip Crayon to line my lips for a thicket edge. These of course offer more precision but much like their other lippies is super pigmented and the perfect addition to the line. Featuring 28 new shades, The Lip Pencil collection offers precise coverage with their super sharpened tip (just make sure to own a good sharpener!) and are easy to blend for a no-mess application.

Hot Lips + beauty picks of the week!

I’ve been playing with some new and not so new beauty products and am overdue for a round up. But before we even talk makeup, you know how much I love a strong ring game and this week I got this fun lip ring (as in actual lips on a ring — not ring in my lips!) from Solange Azagury – Partrdige’s new Hoptlips Core Collection. Cara Delevingne has one so these are like our bff rings… jk, but it does feel like a ring every beauty blogger would want. They are available in so many fun lip shades, mine is in Black Cherry. And speaking of beauty I’m overdue to express how much I love the products in this picture.

Most of them are from events or random mailers that showed up at my apartment months and months ago — it takes me a while to try products. And these have been in my makeup case almost nonstop!

Ilia Launches New Shades for Fall

As many of you know I’ve been on my naturals kick lately and one brand I’ve been seeing forever and dying to try is ILIA. Their signature lipsticks feature 72% certified organic ingredients that off a creamy, soft finish. For fall they have added three new shades: Madam Mina (nude mauve) and The Brides (warm nude) are limited edition and Lucy’s Party (blood red), will be part of their permanent collection. Just look at that sheen!

All shades are true to shade with buildable color. They go on beautifully and feel amazing and lightweight on. The names of the three new lipsticks are inspired by the leading characters of Francis Ford Coppola’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula from the 90s.

Movie Night with Lily Collins and Miles Teller

lily-collins-rules-dont-apply-lara-eurdolian

This week, I hit two advance screenings of movies, that are biopics based on real life legends coming out later this month. The first being “Rules Don’t Apply” based on Howard Hughes with Lily Collins (I know, I love her!). And yes I asked about her brows — she uses Maybelline Clear Gel to groom them but basically otherwise keeps them full and doesn’t do anything. She even upkeep’s them herself. I will get back to the movie review but can we take a second to appreciate that she doesn’t even need to fill them in and she goes “drugstore” (her choice word) on them.  Best brows in Hollywood!

The other movie I caught was ‘Bleed for This‘ based on the incredible story of boxer, Vinny “The Pazmanian Devil” Pazienza played by Miles Teller, who did a Q&A after the screening. I’ve always thought of him as more of a bro-type actor/person but he blew me away with his performance, range and personality both on and off the screen. I think he and Lily Collins for that matter are two of the most talented actors of their generation. Movie reviews/trailers below!

American Express Partners with Amazon for the Holidays

american-express-rewards-card-amex

Whether you’re planning your holiday wish list, shopping for others or for everyday household items, Amazon has it all – and at unbeatable prices. For the holidays, American Express’ Blue Cash Everyday card is partnering with Amazon.com between now and January 11, 2017 to offer new Card Members 10% back on Amazon purchases within the first six months of membership, up to $200 when using the Card. New Card Members will also earn $100 cash back in the form of statement credit after spending $1,000 on the card within the first three months of Card Membership. That’s cause for major celebration in my household since Amazon is by far the site I order from the most, and I take full advantage of being an Amazon Prime member.

best-lighting-for-blogger-vloggerI started a photo studio wish list on Amazon awhile ago as I’ve been wanting to start a YouTube channel for some time and update my photo studio to take both my photographs and video to the next level. Also, with winter coming I’ll be doing a lot more of my photo shoots indoors. So, I decided to finally turn wish list into a reality as a birthday present for myself. Here was my lighting wish list (as seen in the above photo):

Lighting – LimeStudio 700W Photography Softbox Light Lighting Kit Photo Equipment Soft Studio Light Softbox ($74.99)

Ring light – LimoStudio 12” Ring Light Dimmable Fluorescent Continuous Lighting Kit ($129.99)

Tripod – AmazonBasics 50-Inch Lightweight Tripod with Bag ($16.99)

Shape Beauty Awards 2016

shape-beauty-awards-2016-lara-eurdolinaI made it guys! Last night I was running around, my phone died, my hair was array but somehow I still made it to the 2016 Shape Beauty Awards and was able to celebrate so many of my favorite brands! This year marks the publications 14th Annual Beauty Awards, and their editors teamed up with legendary makeup artist Matin, dermatologist David E. Bank, hairstylist Paul Labrecque, and fragrance developer Ruth Sutcliffe to test hundreds of new products and assemble a lineup of the year’s ultimate beauty buys in every category.

shape-2016-beauty-awardsI’m barely scratching the surface of the 87 top picks selected from hair, skin, makeup and more in my above photo. But I would say between the gift bag and my mega beauty stash I’ve tried more than half the winners. In fact everything to the left are products that have been on my radar that I haven’t had a chance to try including the Peter Thomas Roth 24K Gold Cream, Biore Baking Soda Cleansing Scrub, and L’Oreal La Palette Lip that I’ve been DYING to! And everything to the right I have tried and are complete winners in my book! Mega thumbs up and congratulations on choosing the Clarisonic Mia Fit, Laura Geller Filter Finish Setting Powder, Clarins Booster Detox, Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water, Olay Eyes Ultimate Eye Cream and new Shiseido Rouge Rouse lipsticks which are beautiful (the whole range is filled with a 16 piece red lipstick collection that are creamy and full of pigment). Most all of these you’ve seen me post about but it always makes me excited when products I love win.

shape-award

The winning brands got to pick up the physical award at last nights ceremony. How cute is it? My photo doesn’t do it justice. The awards are split up into 5 different categories: The Best Fragrances For Every Personality, Drugstore Products Every Girl Should Own, The Best Hair Products On The Market, The Best Skin-Care Products, The Best Makeup Of The Year and The Best Workout-Friendly Beauty Products For Your Body. You can check out the complete list at shape.com/topics/beauty-awards or pick up the October 2016 issue now on stands featuring all the winners.

Also speaking of beauty awards, Glamour Magazine is also debuting their Beauty Awards this month in their October issue now on stands. I actually helped judge the Best New Beauty Products of 2016 category (If you click “read more” you see my name!). Even though there were other categories I’ll go ahead and share the winners in mine since I’m so proud: The Best Creative Face Mask (GlamGlow GravityMud Firming Treatment), The Best Micellar Water (Neogen Real Flower Cleansing Water in Rose),  The Best Color Corrector (It Cosmetics Bye Bye Redness Correcting Cream), The Best Contouring Product (Nudestix Sculpting Pencil), The Best Strobing Product (Glossier Haloscope), The Best Co-Wash (R+Co Analog Cleansing Foam Conditioner), and The Best Breakthrough Lipstick (The Estee Edit Lip Flip Shade Transformer). Be Kind Today

be-kind-today-tee-shirtLabor Day weekend is always one of my favorites long weekends. The weather is generally beautiful and I’ve learned over the years that it is the calm before the storm — which in my case is fashion week. I really prioritize making it relaxing since I know I’m gearing up for a few weeks of little sleep, being on my feet non-stop — all while trying to look good for the biggest never-ending fashion event of the year.

James and I haven’t been home much the past month so we decided instead of making elaborate plans with friends we’d stick close to home and drive up the Hudson and explore. We stopped in Tarrytown for lunch and then headed to Rockefeller State Park for hike. Set on a beautiful lake that’s a little over mile to walk around and covered in lily pads, we could not have asked for a more gorgeous day. It was so great to pack a backpack (you know I’m all about my insanely lightweight LeSportsac packs) and be out in nature. It’s also the first day I dressed for fall, and the hike gave James and I both an excuse to wear our new Teva’s from their fall collection. While I love my summer brights, I have missed the blacks, grays and more autumn shades in my wardrobe. My tee is actually a new gift from Doc Shorty. They make super soft tees (all made in the US) with kind message and donate 10% of the profits to multiple sclerosis research. It’s amazing how many more smiles you get passing by people when they read “Be Kind Today” on your shirt.

It’s amazing how a walk in the woods, surrounded in silence can offer such a recharge! I hope you all had an awesome weekend! xoLara @prettyconnected

I’m so excited! One of my favorite websites to buy fitness clothes now has a store in NYC! SIX:02 mixes fashion and fitness and is one of those sites (now stores) that carries popular brands like Adidas, Puma and Nike — but is so well curated as if they’ve gone and picked just the styles I would want to wear and then mixed them in with more indie brands like Lime and Vine, Koral, and Spiritual Gangster. They also carry the Fenty x Puma By Rihanna collection and McQueen for Puma… just saying.

Earlier this week, they opened their first NYC Location at 120 West 34th Street in Herald Square. We signed the welcome wall, got to be one of the first people to shop the store and had a blast. Especially when DJ Khaled showed up. I think I enjoyed the crowds reaction more so then seeing him — people went nuts! Meanwhile, I went nuts for everything in the store, I’m so excited they have landed in NY! I grabbed a few workout staples for fall — the black leggings are actually ribbed (it’s hard to tell from the picture) and suck everything in! Which I need after being on vacation for 3 weeks — and also need to start working out again now that I’m back in NY! Thank you to SIX:02 for the added motivation and gear to help motivate me!

Check out the store if you’re in NY and if not online. They have an awesome 20% off $100 Labor Day sale happening on the website right now at six02.com.
