If you ever have the means (and I recognize how unnecessary this is), and are feeling a little bit ridiculous, a helicopter ride in NYC is an exceptional way to invest 10 minutes of your life. Especially if you happen to be flying to JFK and need a quick route back to the city. This is one sure way to avoid traffic!
Talk about a view…
My dates…
Perfect landing!
Although if you’re going to do it and are paying for the whole aircraft, grab some friends –preferably really handsome ones and have them come all the way to the airport only to ride back, they will not regret it! It will make you feel like a complete baller when you land at the V.I.P. .Heliport trailer in Chelsea.
On January 19th at the American Museum of Natural History, Susan Sarandon, Jonathan Bricklin, Will Shortz, Rob DeSalle, and Wendy A. Suzuki lead a panel discussion appropriately called ‘Your Brain on Ping Pong’, on what’s so great about the sport and the effects
Fresh off the Spring/Summer 2011 fashion shows in New York, Milan, and Paris, hair stylist, Guido Palau, took the time to present his runway looks and introduced us toRedken’s new hairsprays, Pure Force 16 ($15.50/6.7oz), Fashion Work 12 ($16.50/11oz.), and the new and improved Forceful 23 ($16.50/11oz), all launching January 2011.
One of the world’s most influential hair stylists, Guido also serves as a Creative Consultant for Redken. Many of us have already lusted over his looks this season, a few of which I’ve covered on Pretty Connected. The impressive roster of shows includes Alexander Wang, Calvin Klien, Jill Stuart, Marc Jacobs, Prada, Roberto Cavalli, Versace, Alexander McQueen, Jean Paul Gaultier, Lanvin, Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu, Valantino, Yves Saint Laurent –and the list goes on from there. A true visionary, with endless creativity he comments, “Without the use of the products I use, I couldn’t create the styles I create.”
While this may seem like an obvious statement, it’s one we often overlook. “Many women I meet are very interested in fashion, they read all the blogs, go to all the websites, and it’s just about encouraging them to take it one step further and try it out themselves” says Guido. As I listened to him speak, his words struck a cord –I am one of those women; your classic New Yorker, always on the go, owns an unreasonable amount of products, drools over every new innovative runway or celebrity hair look, and yet has two styles I do well and never takes the time to experiment with others.
So what’s our problem? Likely for most of us, it’s the intimidation factor; for myself, I’ll also include risk/time management. On any given week, I’ll have a plethora of events to attend and the last thing I want
Taylor Diageo kicked off the holiday season last month with their holiday party, hosted at the Empire State Building. Naturally their drink assortment was superb and I’m excited to share their recipes with you. Perfect for any party you’re hosting this season, don’t forget the garnishes, they add such a nice somethin’ somethin’. My favorites were the King Cider and ROKK Purple Viking! More recipes available at TheBar.com
When I first considered starting this site, I almost named it ‘VanityandCharity.com’. Mainly because that sums up two of my passions, writing about beautiful products that excite me and make us look good, but also charitable efforts and causes. I have always valued the importance of giving back and very often the two worlds collide to bring an explosion of good.
DavidBartonGym seems to share my fervor. They have spent the past decade committed to making a difference in the lives of children. This Friday, DavidBartonGym is hosting their 10th annual Toy Drive with the hopes of collecting their 200,000th toy for children in need this holiday season and you’re invited!
If you’re familiar with DavidBaronGym, you know they have a very cutting edge approach
Yesterday, Sylvie Chantecaille, Founder & President of Chantecaille alongside her family and colleagues celebrated the opening of her new flagship at Blommingdale’s (59th Street, NYC), with a private ribbon cutting ceremony. Howard Kreitzman, Bloomingdale’s VP, DMM Cosmetics, Sylvie Chantecaille and Michael Gould, Bloomingdale’s Chairman, & CEO stood before the audience to say a few words.
“We’ve been doing so many wonderful installations around the world, we’ve built all of these beautiful boutiques in Tokyo, Seoul, Taiwan, Hong Kong… but never in New York. We wanted to show New York who we are and I couldn’t think of anyone better to do it with so we really thank you for the opportunity”, said Chantecaille in thanks to her associates at Bloomingdales.
I, of course could not have been more honored to be amongst this class of distinguished patrons in the beauty industry to witness this Chantecaille milestone.
“It’s so nice to work with people who are just such a pleasure to work with, so thank you so much, we are looking forward to great things, we’re off to a great start, and this is only the beginning” said Howard Kreitzman, Bloomingdale’s VP, DMM Cosmetics.
The over-sized scissors were then unmasked and held by Sylvie Chantecaille. The moment was before us, the scissors we’re in place but the ribbon did not cut. After several attempts and assistance from her fellow speakers, they resorted to a small pair of over-the-counter mini scissors for their big moment. While that
I had a tough time getting out of bed earlier. However, inspired by Twyla Tharp’s speech about wellness and how important it is for our bodies to move, I turned to YouTube for some motivation.
My morning workout spoof video is brought to you by a bunch of camp counselors, just having a good time (and yes ladies, get in line, they are all straight).
All laughing aside, I’m legitimately impressed by how in shape these guys are– I mean a two person jump rope, circular jumping jacks, horizontal sit ups, pull up with a person on your chest, synchronized push-ups with their legs intertwined… it’s ridiculous! And don’t even get me started on the solo acts– whatever the dance move the two boys in black spandex and the one in the green neon shirt have going on, I need to practice.
“Now every single day I just want to hear you say, I’m so lucky, lucky, I’m so lovely, lovely…”.
I’m taking a break this week for a quick trip to Nevada for Burning Man. I’m a little nervous considering it’s my first time and I’ll be phone-less, computer-less, shower-less… but life’s an adventure, so here we go. I’ll be back in NY in time for Fashion’s Night Out and Fashion Week. Bring on the fun!
I’m a totally tooth obsessed, so when I received these tips from Dr. Ramin Tabib of NYC Smile Design, on how to keep our smiles at their best during the summer months, I wanted to share them with you. Enjoy!
1) Ocean vs. Pool
Chlorine, which is often used in swimming pools, can erode and weaken teeth; whereas, the ocean’s salt water decreases bacteria in the mouth providing a healthy oral environment, making ocean activities your optimal choice. If you are more often exposed to pool water, you should get a fluoride treatment or bonding treatment with a chemical coating to protect and strengthen the enamel.
2) Moderate Sun Bathing
There are many reasons why people shouldn’t lay out in the sun, but when
