Great Advice for Men: He Should Read THIS!

I’m not convinced this wasn’t written by one of my ex-boyfriends considering one of them forwarded this to me with the caption of “I get it!”. I think this speaks to most of us women, I know I’m most impressed with #3 and the word “Wow”… I could not have articulated their definitions better myself.

You should probably drop everything and forward this link to your significant other…

Most Romantic Wedding Proposal…Ever (You’re Probably Going to Cry)

If you’ve ever wondered ‘is romance dead?’ You can now rest assured it’s not (although possibly hard to find). Exactly one week ago, Isaac proposed to his girlfriend with an incredibly well produced, live lip-dub extravaganza choreographed by 60 of their friends and family. The result… easily the most romantic and special proposal I’ve ever seen (and last weekend I saw someone get proposed to in Central Park with the airplane writing it in the sky and everything). You may want to get a tissue… you’ll need something to stop those tears of joy.

“On Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012, I told my girlfriend to meet me at my parent’s house for dinner. When she arrived I had stationed my brother to sit her in the back of an open Honda CRV and give her some headphones. He ‘wanted to play her a song’…

What she got instead was the world’s first Live Lip-Dub Proposal.”

Last Minute Tax Tips from my Accountant

If you’re anything like me, right about now you’re feeling the tax burn. With the filing deadline a month away, I spent the last week itemizing my receipts, organizing my 1099’s and getting everything in top shape for my accountant. I used to think accounts we’re for fancy people or folks like my dad that owns their own business; until I realized that by doing my own taxes I was losing out on some of the benefits I deserved and that loss far outweighed the cost of hiring a professional.

The trick is finding someone a friend or coworker recommends, preferably with top level firm experience or skills, who now works for him or herself at an affordable rate. Or so that has been my experience, thanks to my friend Melissa who referred me to my accountant Minas Amazilatis.

As I watched Minas go through my very intricate filing system of earnings and expenses to save me my bank account from governmental demise, I asked him for a few tips and recommendations for all of you!

Here are a few last minute reminders and pointers from Minas!

1.     For this year due to the fact that April 15th is a Sunday and the 16th is a holiday in the District of Columbia taxes are due the 17th of April.

2.     In order to save in your taxes check with your tax professional if you are eligible for a last minute IRA contribution

3.     If you are planning on filing an extension make sure that you calculate as close as possible your tax liability and pay with your extension to file in order to avoid paying late fees and if possible make the IRA contribution… Remember that the extension is to file and not pay your taxes.

If you’re not sure if you need an accountant, the best way to check is to bring your taxes from the previous year and have a consultation (that should be free of charge). Your possible soon-to-be accountant should be able to look at what you filed and let you know if you missed any major deductions or if you we’re spot on. If you’re in the NYC area and looking for a good accountant, Minas’ information is below. Happy filing!

DVF Partners with Gap for Kids Collection + Live Worldly to Launch Brazilets

Diane von Furstenberg has been busy! Well, I assume she’s always busy, so maybe I should say busier… She recently launched two partnerships; the first with Live Worldly to create Brazilets, a limited collection of wish bracelets and the other with Gap to launch a spring collection for Gapkids and babyGap.

The Live Worldly and DVF Brazilets come in a plethora of colors and are available with two different sayings, ‘Love is Life’, and ‘Be the Woman You Want to Be’. The packaging includes 3 lines for you to write three wishes. Tapping a 200 year-old tradition from mystical Bahia, Brazil to bring good luck, you wrap Brazilets around your wrist and tie three knots, making a wish with each knot. When your bracelet naturally falls off, it is believed that your three wishes will come true. The bracelets ($5) can be found at DVF locations and www.liveworldly.com. 20% of all proceeds go towards ‘Plant a Billion Trees’ Plantabillion.com which is dedicated to planting one billion trees in the Atlantic Forest – the most endangered forest in Brazil.

Diane von Furstenberg is also partnering with GapKids and babyGap this month to launch a children’s collection, dressing girls from newborn to age 14. This collaboration is the first between DVF and Gap and I wish it extended to adults considering I’d love me some DVF designs at Gap prices…

“I am thrilled to collaborate with Gap on this playful collection for girls. It is timeless…colorful…effortless. That is very DVF!”, says Diane von Furstenberg. The collection features iconic DVF prints, signature silhouettes and a bold color palette. Filled with summer wardrobe essentials, the line includes easy t-shirt dresses, jersey tanks, graphic t-shirts, blazers, capri leggings and swimwear. The iconic DVF wrap is re-invented with a child-like higher waist detail, in structured cotton or as a jersey romper shape for babies and toddlers. Accessories include printed knot sandals, sunglasses, beach bags and sunhats. Prices range from $20.00 to $120.00.

The collection will launch in the US on March 15th and internationally on March 28th.

The Blonds Fall 2012 Runway Show

There really is no better way to wrap up fashion week

Kara Ross Fall/Winter 2012

Kara Ross, enchanted by her travels to the Sahara, introduced a Moroccan inspired collection for Fall 2012. Using vibrant colors such as deep purple, emerald green, indigo and sand she invokes the feel of foreign lands.  The collection is true to Kara’s style, statement pieces using beautiful stones and exotic skins. These over-sized jewels are not for a wallflower!  A bold theme throughout the collection was the carved stone scarab, an ancient beetle indigenous to the Sahara.

Her classic handbag collection is offered in vibrant colored skins, which are custom died for the collection. Debuting a new style with the working professional in mind the “Trinity” bag offers plenty of space for necessities as well as a designated spot for an iPad.

What I appreciate most about Kara Ross is that she has unique investment pieces. You wear a Kara Ross, chances are that’s going to be the accessory you’re getting a compliment on for the evening. Look a these beauties:

Makeovers with Illamasqua

Since making a splash state side with an exclusive partnership with Sephora; the UK beauty line Illamasqua, known for it’s dramatic looks and subversive inspiration, offers a wide variety of unique shades, professional finishes, and versatile application options.  After posting about the nail varnish, and loving it last month– I was excited to play with the rest of the color line.  Lucky for me the team was invited to meet with product development head David Horne and learn about the line, complete with make-up application.

Makeup artist, Kim Anderson took the lead and gave me a natural,  daytime shimmery look, focusing on my eyes for extra emphasis.

After using Satin Primer on my face and applying Rich Liquid Foundation, Kim went to work on my eyes using a mix of Powder Eye Shadow in Fatal and Cream Pigment Eye Shadow in Mould to create a look that was intense in color but muted in tone and finish. After succeeding in making my eyes intensely green by using a shadow with purple in it, she highlighted my cheeks with Cream Blusher in Rude (the brands top seller).

Sharing a few tricks of the trade (that I will be using from now on) she rubbed the heel of her hand in the cream blush and applied it to my cheeks, she then blended it with the opposite side of her hand creating a perfectly symmetrical look. I really like the Rude blush shade as it’s so versatile and works on so many different skin

NAHM Presents Pretty Vintage Inspired F/W 2012 Collection

The room was buzzing as the grand piano played at the presentation for NAHM, the line of Alexandra Hilfiger (daughter of you know who) and Nary Manivong.  In it’s second season the duo presented a collection of boxy dresses with drop waist skirts, delicate blouses with ruffle trim, skirts with varying hemlines, in modern, youthful cuts.

Looking to the past, the duo took their inspiration from the 20’s and ancient Egypt. It was a strong showing and I loved the hieroglyphic print dresses, featuring tiny ancient Egyptians engaging in very modern activities: trimming hedges with giant shears, toting shopping bags, cruising on skateboards. The shoes, contrast platforms in coordinating prints, and black suede, were a great addition to the look.

Vintage-centic NAHM featured a “Sugared Neutral” nail with pink undertones. This color was custom blended by CND‘s Angi Wingle, but can be recreated at home by layering CND Colour in Desert Suede with one coat of CND Colour in Marshmallow Rose, topped with CND Super Matte Top Coat. Strong nude nails looked flawless with minty green wingtipped eyes by MAC and glamorous ’20s ‘dos by Aveda amidst punchy plum and eclectic green patterned fabrics.

EMU Spring/Summer 2012 Collection

EMU? More like, OMG! Up until now I thought of EMU Australia as an UGG-like brand that made ultra warm sheepskin boots, now after seeing their Spring/Summer 2012 I realize they are so much more! For starters, they have a full line of shoes (men’s + women’s) that stretches beyond their classic Stinger sheepskin boots, as well as a clothing line, accessories and the most draw-dropping adorable kids collection of boots.

I mean seriously, can you handle it?

Besides taking a few cuteness moments over the kids collection (I mean look at those Little Grubs Koala bootie!!!), I was really impressed by the variety of styles and color assortment.

New for spring is a their collection of sandals (pictured below). However, I’m all about the boots! They recently introduced the strawberry shade to their Stinger Mini sheepskin boot and I NEED IT (pictured below right)! How fun is that color!?!?

Earth-tone boots are always high on my list!

Although my absolute favorite new style for Spring is their Leeton Mush Boot (pictured above and below). That and the Stinger Mini boot in Strawberry need to make their way into my closet.

Did you know EMU sheepskin is water resistant? They actually let me put a pair of their boots in water and within seconds they were dry! That’s more then I can say for a lot of their competitors…

Some of the styles featured in this post are currently available on EMUAustralia.com. The rest you’ll just have to wait until spring!
