One of my favorite nights from fashion week was when Caravan Stylist Studio asked me to host an event for Save the Garment Center with members of the cast of Orange is the New Black and Boardwalk Empire, plus some designers that are MADE IN NY!
NYFW: Backstage Beauty at Jeremy Scott Spring/Summer 2015 Fashion Show
Now I know I already posted about Miley Cyrus’ art — which if you have no idea what I’m talking about click HERE. But basically, Miley debuted her art backstage at the Jeremy Scott Spring/Summer Fashion Show and her jewelry collection on the models that went down the runway. And somehow this totally overshadowed what I should have been posting about… the awesome beauty!
NYFW: Christian Siriano Spring/Summer 2015 Show
White Hot and Cool Blues permeated Christian Siriano’s Spring Summer 2015 collection. Inspired by the artist Serfio Redegali’s glass sculptures, Christian was thinking about the “effects of transparency”. Each garment had a defined silouette with a specific attention paid to texture. All white designs were the first to parade down the runway. These designs transitioned into a series of cool sea foam green evening wear dresses.
NYFW: Sheer Brilliance at Reem Acra Spring/Summer 2015 Show
Two things were apparent at Reem Acra’s Spring 2015 show, a fondness for flesh and no shortage of shine. While the stunning collection, said to be inspired by mid century couturiers, had those of us in the crowd fantasizing about a rendezvous on the red carpet, it was the beauty look that we felt could apply to our real life.
Enhancing the hair’s natural texture was the look created by Didier Malige with René Furterer products. Taking a cue from Reem’s designs the locks were draped in the front in an asymmetrical manner, while the supporting strands had modern feel to them. We love the way this gave the dressy silhouettes an edge and could easily be re-imagned to work in your weekend routine when you want to freshen up your “going out” look.
The same could be said about the makeup look, created by legendary makeup artist, Pat McGrath. Smokey eyes with a bronze overlay, toning down the intensity of the lids but playing up the glamour for a perfect balance.
This entire look is very “copyable” all the way down to the fingertips. Miss Pop used OPI’s “Bubble Bath” shade, which is a soft, milky pink. The cult favorite echoed the romance of the collection effortlessly and can be seen below on Miss Pop herself who jazzed the look up on her fingers with a dash of a rebellious black.
NYFW: A Parisian Dream at Alice + Olivia SS2015 Presentation
Alice + Olivia is one of those shows I look forward to attending every season — and it never disappoints! Stacey Bendet’s attention to detail and captivating creating a world around her collection is just further testament to her designer eye. For this year the inspiration was the beauty of Versailles represented by royally waking up from a dream in Paris. And we see this parisian princess come to life in a modern way with a chic braided silk chignon created by Michael Duenas for Schwarzkopf Professional (see how to tutorial HERE) and makeup created by Sara Lucero, Stila’s Global Director of Creative Artistry.
For this dream Lucero wanted etherial glowy skin, doll-like cheeks, dreamy eyes and kiss-stained lips (see product references above).
Nails, created by Rita Remart for Essie included one of the shades: a custom lilac, soft peach and a vibrant coral depending on the models outfit.
Flowy skirts, vintage prints, stunning bead work and incredible accessories reigned on at the beautifully crafted presentation. Take a look:
NYFW: Style-Envy California Girls in the Desert at Mara Hoffman
Backstage at Mara Hoffman, the hair stole the show! With an inspiration of the California girl at Joshua Tree, outdoors absolved in the chic by dryness elements of the desert, Nick Irwin, CATWALK by TIGI Global Creative Director created a unique messy, deconstructed braid that had even me wanting to get extensions to pull this look off. The key to creating that texture came from using CATWALK by TIGI Transforming Dry Shampoo on dry hair and blasting it with the blow dryer to create that matte texture.
NYFW: Moonlight & Roses at Erin Fetherston Spring/Summer 2015 Fashion Show
It was the calm before the storm backstage at the Erin Fetherston show. Noteworthy were the simple gold striped on a white wash nails painted by Gina Edwards for Kiss.
Channeling a young Kate Moss, Red Door Spa experts led by Woody Michleb gently pulled hair back into a knotted bun to accompany Erin Fetherston’s polished, but youthful collection.
The models looked fresh and rested, thanks to one of my favorite products, Skyn Iceland’s Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels. The skincare brand was backstage at the show and unveiled there limited edition Erin Fetherston packaging.
Further complementing Fetherston’s feminine designs, lead artist Lottie Stannard for Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics created a pretty bronzed look using a combinations of OCC’s PENNYROYAL, TARRED and FEATHERED Colour Pencils on the eyes as well as DUNE Stained Gloss. After preping the skin with OCC’s Tinted Moisturizer and Conceal the team used NEWT Creme Colour Concentrate on the cheeks and highlighted with PRIS Lip Tar. Followed by their LAMENT Tip Tar on the lips and Primer.
Erin’s Fetherston Spring 2015 collection titled “Moonlight and Roses” embodied feminine flair. A garden of floral and butterfly prints and delicate lace permeated her collection. Incorporating the trends we saw this past for spring, she debuted a series of crop tops and high waisted shorts separates. Fetherston added some New York edge to her collection with some black shear organza pieces, including a gorgeous gown with black bodice. As always her whimsical style was crisp and original. Her most memorable look a glistening yellow gown swinging down the runway like a burst of sunshine.
NYFW: A Walk Through the Flower Market at Trina Turk SS2015 Presentation
A walk through the LA Flower market was Trina Turk’s inspiration for her Spring 2015 collection. Exploding blooms of poppies influenced her spring line. Brilliant color sprang up in every inch of the show.
Hair accessories, makeup and even the menswear all encompassed intense hues. Viewing her collection gave you the feeling that the sun is shining somewhere. A range of rompers, separates and long breezy dresses graced the presentation. The models seemed to have just stopped in on their way to the beach.
We started Backstage with Beauty.com who worked with Esther Langham on hair using PHYTO products and T3 tools to create perfectly straight hair, and with Jason Araujo who prepped the models skin with Boots NO7 before passing the models to one of our favorite makeup artists, Sarah Lucero for Stila Cosmetics.
The inspiration behind each look was a Californian girl going to the flower market- healthy and fresh. The hair was blow dried straight with volume at the roots using PHYTO Professional Intense Volume Mousse and PHYTO Phytovolume Actif Volumizing and finished off with PHYTO Porfessional Glossing Cream and PHYTO Phytolisse Ultra-Glossing Finishing Serum for that smooth frizz-free hair. They then parted hair in the middle and topped off the look with a headband.
Unlike a lot of California inspired makeup looks we saw at Fashion week Stila incorporated a pop of color in the eyes and the lips. For the eyes they used Stay All Day Waterproof Smudge Stick in Turquoise and Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Carina. Other products that were used to create this look are shown above.
Bursting through the collection was a bright coral chiffon dress with shorts and a magenta jump suit. Vibrant board shorts and blazers were the theme of the menswear. Her collection was resort wear with a touch of sophistication.
NYFW: Caught in a Daydream at Charlotte Ronson SS2015 Show
Backstage at Charlotte Ronson Spring/Summer 2015 collection, the nails stole the show! Lead nail artist Miss Pop for OPI showed us a fun way to do nail art by showing off some of your natural nail by creating a nail look showcasing negative space, with alternating cutout half moon shapes.
To complement the collection’s feminine color palette, Miss Pop used OPI pastel mint shade That’s Hula-rious! (Launching February 2015) on the hands and for the feet she used shade Bubble Bath with the addition of a fun daisy on the big toe. (Both manicure and pedicure looks were prepped with OPI Base Coat and finished with OPI Top Coat.)
