Girls night out with Smirnoff
Tuesday night I joined The Glam Network and Smirnoff for a much needed girls night out. Hosted at the NYC nail salon, tenoverten we we’re treated to makeovers, mani + pedi’s, massages, tarot card readings, a sushi dinner and an assortment of cocktails using Smirnoff’s new Sorbet Light vodka. Available in three flavors, Mango Passion Fruit, Lemon and Raspberry Pomegranate, Smirnoff had a list of specialty cocktails using their new infused vodka line. I opted to try all three and while I was impressed by the light refreshing taste of them all, hands down their Smirnoff Sorbet Light Mango Passion Fizz cocktail was my favorite (Note the recipe: Mango Passion Fruit Smirnoff Sorbet Light, Fresh Lemon Juice, Simple Syrup or Agave Nectar, Club Soda or Basil Leaves). It may just be my new summer drink!
No girls (or shall I say ladies…) night out would be complete without a gal pal to enjoy it with. I was fortunate to bring one of my favorite makeup artists and good friend, (we used to work at NARS together) Jenny Smith! Sitting in a-joining mani/pedi stations, catching up on life, while getting our nails done reminded me of High School — only this time it came with alcohol. New rule,
Chris Benz EPIC Unveiling…
It was an epic day at The Crosby Hotel. Last week IFB hosted a Q&A chat for the collaboration between our favorite pink hair designer, Chris Benz and Michael Knapp, Art Director of the new animated 3D feature film EPIC (in theaters May 24th). From the creators of Ice Aga, EPIC is an adventure comedy that tells the story of a teenage girl who finds herself magically transported into this secret universe, and teams up with an elite band of warriors and a crew of comical, larger-than-life figures, to save the world. The film stars the voices of Beyonce Knowles, Colin Farrell, Josh Hutcherson, Christoph Waltz and Amanda Seyfried.
After a short preview of the film Micheal Knapp went in detail showing some of the drawings and process behind the intricate designs for the character’s wardrobe in the movie. I was blown away by the amount of detail and process
Sneek Peek of The Makeup Show with James Vincent: Top Beauty Products to have on Your Radar
The Makeup Show officially kicked off this morning (and runs through tomorrow) and spans 2 floors with over 85 beauty brands (including top brands like NARS, Make Up For Ever, OCC Makeup, Inglot, Stila, Smahbox…), 10 keynote speakers, and more then 20 seminars. An event truly dedicated to makeup artists with discounts on products (you otherwise never see), top educational speakers, and the opportunity to meet the creatives and founder behind the brands we love. This is where the leaders of the beauty industry will be and probably one of the most important networking events for anyone trying to break into beauty or has any questions on how to advance or develop their skills and career.
Last night, I joined the incredible the Director of Artistry for The Makeup Show, The Powder Group and On Makeup Magazine and celebrity makeup artist, James Vincent as he gave us bloggers a sneak preview of some of the products debuting at the show. And as you can tell from the goody bag above, there’s a lot to be excited about! I wish I had time to test everything out to tell you which booths are a must visit but here are a few of the products that instantly caught my eye…
OCC Makeup Lip Tar Staind Gloss – this is the only product I’ve had a chance to try and I’m IN LOVE. 5 years ago at The Makeup Show, David, OCC’s founder launched lip tar which is still one of the most pigmented HD lip products on the market and was one of the first innovators in that category. This season at The Makeup Show he’s launching Lip Tar Stained Gloss and it’s beautiful. The payoff and color that comes out of that small tube is incredible. And it’s so light (which is not something I would say about the original Lip Tar). It has great shine and is considerably softer shade then you see in the tube. I have shade Rhythm Box, which I thought would be a dark wine color but instead is more of a soft, bright raspberry shade. It’s so pretty!
The others that stood out were ALCONE MAKE-OFF professional make-up remover for eyes, face and lips. James went on about these remover pads and how it not only gets off everything (waterproof products and all) but doesn’t leave a film on your face. This makes it a lot easier for makeup artists that want to use it for touch ups possible since they have the ability to apply product over it without hassle.
Kevin Aucoin has a new eye palette, The Essential Eye Shadow Set that has a mix of black, olive and maroon (which are now acceptable for spring) mixed with a dusted blue and white.
The Magic Touch I’m extremely excited to try. It’s a new kind of makeup sponge that sqweegees your makeup on for a flawless application. It makes less product go further and last longer. The part about it hiding your pores and giving you perfect skin really spoke to me. If this can enhance everything from my foundation to bronzer application, I’m all in.
Brooklyn based Armour has a new nude pink lip gloss, Divine that’s so pretty. They have great glosses with beautiful finishes that don’t get messy or stuck in your hair.
MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Rouge — which is an existing dual sided stain and gloss that has been a staple in my makeup case since launching. At the show they are debuting their newest shade #16, which is a pretty bright fuchsia.
Stila is always launching fun, inexpensive mini lip glaze sets which are the perfect fit for any makeup case. Plus at $12 for 3 shades ($41 value), it’s a great brand for encouraging customers to try new shades and experiment with different colors. The newest trio, Harvest Set has vanilla, orchard and spice shades that range the gamete of bronze, pink and gold with a little sparkle.
So what are you waiting for, head to The Makeup Sho!
The Makeup Show starts Sunday, May 5th 9 – 6pm through Monday May 6th 9am – 5pm a the Metropolitan Pavilion, 125 West 18th Street, NYC. For a complete list of participating brands, tickets, speakers and events, visit the makeupshow.com
WHCD Weekend Recap: Parties, Places and Faces #WHCD #NERDPROM
What a weekend! As you saw from my earlier posts I have made the rounds this weekend in DC in honor of the White House Correspondent’s Dinner (WHCD). Here’s the full run down on my weekend starting friday night through Saturday’s festivities. I was fortunate enough to have Amy Harder of the National Journal as my hostess, tour guide, and friend extrodinare throughout the weekend to get ready with and introduce me around to the DC crowd.
Modafinil can buy purchased from this Modafinil Online 247 website where you can buy Modafinil Online or offline.
Friday we kicked the weekend off at The New Republic Office Opening Party. Highlights included a tour of the new office location for The New Republic, as well as in between glasses of Veuve Clicquot (The New Republic doesn’t skimp…), I had an amazing whisky tasting thanks to my new friends at the Distilled Spirits Council who may or may not have introduced me to my new favorite whiskey, Jameson 18 year old reserve. Nancy Pelosi was also in attendance.
After a quick outfit change, we headed over to the National Journal/The Atlantic/OURTIME.org Making News Party. Hosted at The Powerhouse in Georgetown, a super cool 2-floor event space, I got a little nostalgic for New York when I saw my friends, The Bumby’s! For all of you that don’t know The Bumby’s (which just so happened to be every person in that room but me), they are disguised duo team Gill and Jill and they offer creative and unbiased appraisal of your outfit by way of a report card of which they type up on a digital type-writer in front of you as they rate your style. I was graded a 9.5 so I must have done something right that evening.
Unfortunately the disfunction of this photo has nothing to do with our intoxication level and everything to do with how uncoordinated we were in our grabbing props and posing in time. (Although I think it adds character.)
And then for the best moment of the night… meeting Gerard Butler at the final stop of the evening at the Funny or Die After-Party. Hosted at Hogo, this was apparently the party to be at, attracting the likes of Kate Walsh, Michelle Dockery, Kate Walsh, Jason Sudeikis, Olivia Wilde, the cast of House of Cards and as I mentioned our highlight of the night, Gerard Butler. Because Guess what? If you didn’t already have a crush on him (which I actually didn’t), meeting him will most certainly seal the deal — he’s just that funny, charming, handsome, personable… sigh!
And that concludes our Friday night! Most of Saturday I covered in my earlier posts, starting with The National Journal/CBS News/The Atlantic pre-dinner reception (click HERE for the post), where the highlights were meeting Jeremy Renner and Hugh Dancy! Then came the red carpet coverage (click HERE for the post), which I’m particularly proud of the shots I took of WHCD host, Conan O’Brien and Sophia Vergara (although that’s just the tip of the iceberg for your celebrity watchers). Amy and I then ended the night at the Capitol File Magazine 8th Annual After Party.
It was the perfect way to complete the evening. Hosted at The Carnegie Library (the space is absolutely stunning!); guests were treated to RSVP catering, touch-ups by Saks 5th Avenue, photo booth, and a full on dance party at one of the wings of the library. The party went strong all night, as did we, until our feet couldn’t take it anymore and then we walked home.
Until next year!
National Journal x CBS News x The Atlantic Pre-WHCD Reception Jeremy Renner, Claire Danes, Hugh Dancy, Julie Chen…
Saturday night my lovely date Amy Harder of the National Journal and I got all glamed up and headed to the Washington Hilton for the pre-White House Correspondent’s Dinner reception hosted by the National Journal, CBS News and The Atlantic. This one of the few events noted in my calendar where I can justify adding a full-length gown to my wardrobe. The private cocktail party is a great way to kick off the evening and have some time to mix and mingle before the notables in the crowd head
WHCD: PC on the Red Carpet with Conan O’Brien, Sophia Vergara, Michelle Dockery, Gayle King and more #nerdprom
Every year, I look forward to visiting DC for the annual White House Correspondent’s Dinner (WHCD). Nicknamed ‘nerd prom’ it’s that special time of year, when celebrities take over Washington and the President gets to debut his stand up comedy routine poking fun at everything from the press, his Republican opponents, the popularity of Michelle’s bangs to, of course, himself. Hosted by Conan O’Brien at the Washington Hilton, it’s arguably DC’s social event of the year. Or for some, an excuse to wear a gown and mingle with your favorite celebrities. Spotted on the red carpet…
Vogue’s Andre Leon Talley Talks Little Black Dress
What do leather, latex, and neoprene have in common? Each of these disparate materials has inspired a visionary designer, and was transformed in turn—cut, draped, and sewn into fashion’s ultimate expression of beautiful simplicity: the little black dress.
A moment with Oscar de la Renta…
{Rebecca Taylor top, Urban Outfitters skirt, KO Knock Out Nail Polish in Powder}
I stopped by Bloomingdale’s for the launch of the latest Oscar de la Renta fragrance, Something Blue, and got to meet the man himself! A moment was all it was, but a moment with Oscar de la Renta is enough to last a lifetime.
