Foundations have got to be one of the toughest products to get right. If the formula is great, the shade is off, if the shade is right it then dries a different color within minutes of application (I could go on with my grievances forever). It’s rare to find a product that combines 24-hours of color-true makeup that recognizes the skin’s oil levels to control excess sebum without clogging pores. It’s hard to believe Coachella has come and gone! James and I had so much fun this season and having Patricia Field as our date is every bit as awesome as you would imagine and more! The three of us hit some miles in our Chevy Trax (which was the perfect travel car!) in our 4 days in Palm Springs (plus two in LA!).
We kicked off Coachella the night before the music festival at the “Not a Pool Party” kick off at Hard Rock Hotel Palm Springs. Headlining the event was Elliphant, who unfortunately we left before she went on (had to rest up for the 1st day of Coachella)! We did however catch, PPL MVR, which was by far one of the strangest performances I have ever seen (and that says a lot).
One of our favorite parties during Coachella for both myself and Patricia Field was the poolside bash hosted by MAC Cosmetics for the launch of their festival inspired collection with DJ superstar, Mia Moretti. Filled with a beautiful range of peach-tones, pinks to reds, the seven piece collection (plus makeup bag and tote!), consists of two lipsticks, a six shade lipstick palette, and four color creme’s which can be used on cheeks, lids and lips. While catching up with the Moretti, she chatted about how much she wanted to create a very wearable collection using colors she would actually wear and could also envision women wanting to carry around in their makeup case.
On Friday, Real Simple magazine hosted their annual Beauty & Balance event at the Andaz hotel in NYC. It was the perfect de-stress day after a long red-eye home from LA (and my gearing up to be on another plane tomorrow). I took my first Pure Barre class — I know I’m late to the party on this trend — but I totally get the hype! I engaged muscles in my abs that have probably been asleep for the past decade and it’s an incredible class for anyone looking to tone and build strength (and flexibility) throughout their whole body. When I’m back from my whirlwind travels, I’m going back.

What an epic weekend! It’s not everyday you get to go to Coachella with a fashion icon who just so happens to be someone you’ve admired since you were a teenager. As the costume designer behind the looks for the cast of Sex and the City, Devil Wears Prada, The Other Woman and now the new show, Younger, starring Hilary Duff, who better to check out the fashion scene with than with Patricia Field? And as DSW’s official festival corespondent I was taking notes all weekend and here’s the style recap.

Coachella, Coachella, Coachella! After months of planning we’re mere days away! This week it’s been all about the packing experience, which believe me has not been easy! I envy everyone that lives in LA and can drive their wardrobes to Palm Springs. It’s borderline embarrassing to roll up in an over-sized suitcase, plus carry-on luggage (especially since normally I’m a light packer and never check bags), but what can be done, it’s on this season!

There’s nothing quite like planning a weekend with your friends and renting a house. In my case six of us airbnb-ed a pool house in Palm Springs for Coachella. And while alcohol is always the popular choice to bring here are a few other house share items that will score high in your house.
