Our Favorite Honey Skincare Products in Honor of Christopher Robin

I grew up on Winnie the Pooh, so in honor of Disney’s Christopher Robin coming to Blu-ray, DVD and Digital on November 6th and our Hundred Acre Wood friends, I’m sharing my favorite honey infused beauty products and benefits. I even dressed Charlie as Pooh for our screening and have been saying “Silly Old Bear”, to him ever since.

This movie made me me so happy and nostalgic for my childhood. It was the perfect blend of fantasy and reality and watching my much loved childhood friends, Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, Rabbit, Roo, Kanga, Owl, and Eeyore come to life was so special. You’ll probably enjoy it more than your kids… and relate to Christopher Robin; who as an over worked adult misplaces his priorities until he gets some help from some childhood friends. And what’s better than honey, Pooh? Not much when you think about the benefits of both eating it and putting it on our skin. So much more than a delicious treat, it’s used in many beauty products because of it’s anti-bacterial, antioxidant and moisture boosting properties.

Honey also plays well with other ingredients and is a great formula enhancer! Origins took their best-selling Clear Improvement Charcoal mask earlier this year and added Golden Wildflower & Fermented Honey to create Clear Improvement Charcoal Honey Mask. Historically, charcoal masks can be very drying and for more oily skin, however with the addition of honey it’s enabled more normal to dry skin to draw out impurities that charcoal is famous for without the tight, drying feel.

Manuka honey gets a lot of hype and for good reason, it’s derived from bees that feed on the manuka plant and offers more potent anti-bacterial effects coupled with its antioxidant benefits for quicker results when it comes to wound healing and skin infections. It’s also found in a plethora of skincare products including Dr. Brandt’s new Biotic skincare range. The Hydro Biotic Recovery Sleeping Mask and Bright Biotic Dark Spot Minimizing Serum work wondrously together and solo and while the manuka honey isn’t the star ingredient of these products it shows how just a splash adds a boost of hydration and benefits to both.

Lastly, it’s hard to talk about honey and not bring up Farmacy, who’s products include their proprietary potent plant, Echinacea GreenEnvy (think super-hero Echinacea boosting 300% more natural antioxidants), with honey made from the bees that pollinate the Echinacea GreenEnvy flower, infusing the honey with powerful antioxidants. We’re big fans of all their products, their Green Clean Cleansing Balm (makeup remover) won the Allure Best of Beauty award (it’s also included in the Sephora Favorites Skin Wonderland gift set this season!), their Honey Potion is an amazing hydrating mask that heats up and makes skin glow! I’m also obsessed with their Green Screen SPF30. This is an especially great line for dry skin!

Bees don’t just make Honey, but Royal Jelly, Beeswax, Propolis and Bee Venom too, which may be ingredients to keep an eye out when checking the labels of products. Here’s what they do:

Royal Jelly is a nutrient-rich food made my honey bees to nourish their queen. It’s believed to be by why she grows larger and lives longer than worker bees. It’s also known to have several skin and health benefits for humans because of its packed with amino acid, vitamin, enzyme, and uses all of the above to help skin glow.

Beeswax is a natural wax produced by honey bees and is known for it’s anti-inflammatory, antibacterial benefits making it a wondrous ingredient to calm irritated skin.

Propolis – Bees collect tree sap to make propolis aka bee glue, that calms down irritated skin with its anti-inflammatory properties that also serves as a disinfectant against bacteria making it a great ingredient for acneic skin.

Bee venom is a defensive toxin produced by bees aka it’s the poison that makes bee stings painful and has been used for thousands of years in traditional medicine, reducing inflammation and to promote regeneration. Made famous by Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Middleton as their facial of choice a few years back, it’s ability to increase blood circulation and gently plump skin and the make skin instantly appear more lifted and firm while stimulating the production of collagen and elastin makes it a win.

So put on a honey mask, dress your dog as Pooh and watch Disney’s Christopher Robin,  available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital on November 6th at Disney.com

Thank you to Disney for partnering with me on this post and letting me share my love of honey skincare products!
