Coming from the New York cold to the LA sun, I wanted one thing: a tan (okay, more than one thing), but with my SPF regimen, that’s not happening anytime soon. Truth be told the only way you’ll see this body with color is if it’s a spray tan or body bronzer. With Coachella, pools and the excessive amount of white clothing I brought I don’t have the energy for body bronzer or the patience with it sweating all over my clothes. For any of you new to spray tanning I wanted to share a few tips to optimize your tan (no matter where you go) and be streak-free!
- Before you enter the tanning salon, shower, shave and exfoliate your skin.
- Avoid using moisturizers and lotions that are not specially formulated for sunless tanning before your sunless session.
- Avoid wearing perfumes or make-up that provides a barrier for absorption.
- Wear loose-fitting clothing to your session.
Your sunless tan will last anywhere from 3-7 days, and you can protect your tan by making sure you:
- Wait at least 4 hours before bathing, swimming or coming in contact with water.
- Avoid engaging in activities that cause you to sweat heavily until your tan has fully developed (at least 4 hours).
- Moisturize daily with a post-sunless product
