Backstage at the Carven Spring/Summer 2016 show lead makeup artist Nina Haverkamp for MAC Cosmetics created a “healthy, pure and sporty, no-makeup look”. The Carven girl is a very natural girl who knows how to dress and doesn’t need anything else to be a complete show stopper.
It’s that ‘I woke up this morning beautiful and healthy’ look we all wish we actually woke up looking like. And while it plays off the ‘no makeup makeup’ that’s been such a big trend for the past season there is a uniqueness to this look in the transparency in the skin and technique.
One of the coolest products I learned about backstage is their MATTE product, which goes underneath the makeup as a base and can be used instead of a powder to set makeup. It keeps the look fresh and skin velvety since powders can look less natural and make the skin dry so this is an excellent makeup trick for anyone trying to recreate the look at home.
They then used the MAC Pro Longwear Concealer mixed with a bit of the Studio Moisture Fix SPF 15to create a natural matte finish.
For the eyes, the lashes are curled using Full Lash Curler and then at the center again using the Half Lash Curler for a feminine cute appeal. Then for the eyes they used a skinny brush and mixed two Fluidline blwo Gelcreme’s together in shades Deep Dark Brunette and Dirty Blonde and dotted it along the lashes so that it accentuates the eyes by lifting and opening them in a non-obvious way. The brows were then filled in with Extended Play Gigalack lash and Pro Longwear Waterproof Brow Set in Brown Ebony mixed together but just on the hairs instead of the skin to make it more natural.
Then for a really nice shiny cheek she used MAC’s LadyBlush Cremeblend Blush, which is a fresh coral. And finished with Modesty Lipstick pressed onto the lips with an emphasis on the middle to create a soft, muted lip.
