Last weekend I was fortunate enough to spend the morning with Tim Gunn and Marsha Chilko, Procter & Gamble Beauty Ambassador at Walgreens in Union Square. As some of you know, P&G owns an extensive portfolio of beauty brands across categories, or hair, color, skincare, personal care and fragrances including COVERGIRL, Pantene, Olay, Secret Deodorant, Crest, Head&Shoulders, Herbal Essences, Fekkai, SK-II and more! What you may not know is they are the largest fragrance house in the world AND employ more PhD’s then every Ivy league school combined.
As we toured the second floor of Walgreens (their beauty floor), Marsha took us through some of the P&G brands starting with Head&Shoulders — which up until now I always associated with dandruff! Yes, it is a leader in dandruff prevention, but their products are more geared towards a healthy scalp and catered to those even without dandruff. I currently have their Full & Strong Shampoo and Conditioner in my shower and very much enjoying it.
I can’t remember the last time I used Olay (and for no good reason), which is shameful considering how blown away I was by the products and the knowledge Marsha bestowed on us. She put the Olay Deep Wrinkly Treatment on the lines of all of our hands and instantly they became more plump! Even Tim Gunn chimed in that the Olay Prox Anti-Aging Starter Protocol is his favorite skincare set!
We then hit up CoverGirl (one of my favorite P&G brands!) and I got color matched — PS. most CoverGirl stations have the shade match book at the station so if you don’t know your shade, make sure to use it. I also sampled the TruMagic The Skin Perfector, which turns shine to matte and can be used over or under makeup.
Every Saturday, Walgreens has it’s Saturdate, where they offer exclusive coupons available they only give out that day (that are valid throughout the month) so keep an eye out!
I’ve been a huge Tim Gunn fan since Season 1 of Project Runway since my friend Daniel Vosovic was on the show. I’ve always admired his kindness, and how composed and calm he is. And after spending the morning with him, I can attest he’s every bit as knowledgeable and lovely in person. And considering I had so much quality time with the authority on fashion, I couldn’t help but ask a few questions:
PC: What do you think the biggest fashion mistake women make?
TG: Wearing clothes at are too big or too small. It’s all about fit
PC: What do you think some of the bigger trends are going to be for spring?
TG: You know, I’m so disappointed in spring. I was shopping with a blogger a week ago and everything was black and white. What is that? I’m disappointed with it. I always say don’t chase trends if it speaks to you if it resonates for you, great but otherwise leave it alone. I’m just not a trend guy.
PC: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever given?
TG: Be who you are. Be yourself. It’s so simple but its so true.
Thank you Tim Gunn,d Marsha Chilko, and P&G Beauty for such a lovely morning!
