Father’s Day is quickly approaching so there’s no time like this Sunday to give Dad some extra attention. Looking for the perfect gift can always be a challenge. Experiences (from a coffee tasting to wine tasting, taking in a baseball game or spending hours at the driving range) go a long way. There’s nothing quite like spending quality time with Dad (or planning a date) to ring in the holiday.
Sometimes, the best gifts are those that hardly cost anything, a handmade card or making Dad a playlist (if he’s like my dad though, opt for music from his generation–Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, rather then your modern day favorites). The other piece of advice I took from my dad in the gift giving department is opt for presents that go in or fit on their dresser. We did our best! Here’s 9 gifts to help inspire you to find the perfect gift for Dad.
1. Watches! With the variety of fun watches out there, this staple father’s day gift always makes our list! And a great site to get learn about different styles or help you pick a look for Dad is watchco.com. Here are some of our current favorite styles (displayed left to right as seen above):
Nixon Mens The Corporal SS Stainless Watch ($200) – With an inspired military look to it’s face, this all-black watch has a good weight and is solid on the wrist. It’s not flashy but definitely goes noticed (that’s a good thing).
Citizen Mens Eco-Drive Perpetual Calendar Chrono Titanium Watch ($240) – For a more sporty dad, this ultra-cool watch features a titanium case, brown leather strap, and a blue dial.
Skagen Denmark Aktiv Grey Titanium Link Men’s Watch ($195) – Lightweight and ultra thin (it will blow your mind), this sleek and classic design is one of our favorites. Style-wise it’s timeless and versatile–you can wear it in the boardroom tor out camping.
Modify Watches ($40+) – Quirky and fun, we love that you can interchange the watch face and strap to mix and match endless watch combinations and outfits.
2. Shaving kits! When it comes to the beauty world, men generally opt for shaving products, and colognes. Otherwise it’s a big of a tougher sell. One of our favorites is the Sophisticated L’Occitan Set (Special price $65), which features their best-selling mens fragrance filled with notes of lavender, pepper and the scent of burnt wood all in one very rugged, manly fragrance. The set includes a shower gel, shaving gel, after-shave balm and Eau de Toilette.
3. Playing off of a similar concept as #2, toiletries make a great gift for Dad but marry that with a comic book tie in and he’ll be through the roof. As part of the launch for Kiehl’s new Facial Fuel “Heavy Lifting” Firming, Lifting, Anti-Wrinkle Moisturizer ($40) for men, Kiehl’s has partnered with Marvel to created a comic book featuring Captain America that’s set in Kiehl’s historic NYC Flagship store. The limited Edition Captain America Comic Book will be available complimentary with any Kiehl’s purchase, while supplies last. And if you need a hint on which Kiehl’s products to get dad, their mens Facial Fuel line is top notch and their shaving creams are a fan favorite.
4. Fragrances – You probably saw this one coming. These colognes rank high in my household: Acqua Di Parma Colonia Essenza ($98), Tiffany for Men Cologone atomiseur ($95), Lacoste Pour Homme ($70), Chanel Allure Homme (from $60).
5. From Fitbits to Fuelbands, to Up Jawbone, an exercise/sleep tracker is a great motivator to get Dad moving and shaking. Plus with the Up (pictured above) you can get one for yourself and track his progress.
6. Portable or wireless speakers. There’s a variety of models on the market, one we like is the Jambox (pictured above) which is available in two sizes (the Big is on sale for $249.99, and small, on sale for $129.99). Portable Bluetooth speaker, no wires, great sound and perfect for around the house, on the deck or to bring along on an adventure.
7. Headphones! The Senhisser Momentum Headphones ($349.95) are amazing! Premium materials, exceptional sound and they have an extremely comfortable fit (even with glasses on). In a sea of logos, and cheap plastic headphones it’s refreshing to see a timeless, non-flashy pair made of metal and leather instead!
8. Ties! It’s a cliche, up their with underwear and cufflinks but we had to put it in… The MoMa Design Store is a great place to peruse gifts for Dad. We came across these Linen and Silk Neckties from Brenna and Daniel Lewis ($105, or $84 for members) while on the site and couldn’t resist.
9. Belts! Something every Dad can use, especially if you keep it classic, simple and reversible! This Reversible Calf Leather Belt ($40) from Nautica is black on one side and brown on the other. It’s great for the Dad that travels a lot.
