PC at Rebecca Taylor Spring 2012 RTW Collection

Rebecca Taylor was true to her reputation for S/S 2012 offering feminine, wearable dresses and separates that move with the body. Unfortunately, iPhone’s video capabilities and Fashion Week lighting are not a winning combination, but here’s a quick peak at the finale of the show:

“Inspiration is so ephemeral,” said Taylor, stating that she picked up her inspiration from a hodgepodge of places. Aiming to set a contemporary, fresh, and ethereal tone to the designs, the collection emphasizes cut and color with unexpected cut-outs in sibhouettes. This was reflected in her collection which mixed flowy materials and sparkly embellished tops, with some structured dark colored dresses. Also white, neon yellow, floral prints as well as a few dark black and blue pieces were thrown in, creating this disjointed palette. Although the collection lacks the drama and excitement of many runway shows, it is very wearable and I am sure the retails buyers were marking their favorites to display this Spring.

My two favorite looks from the collection included

Are You Ready for New York Fashion Week?

I am, I am! Ehhhhhh! The Spring 2012 shows are upon us, and I just got my official press pass to Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week! Joining all the big-wigs of the fashion industry, I’ll be covering the makeup backstage and the fashion shows. IMG has posted the official schedule for Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park for September 8th-15th, and announced some exciting first timers to the venue including J. Crew (are you as excited as I am?), Honor, Candela,

Farewell Bryant Park

New York Fashion Week is over and with it goes the Bryant Park Tents.  Come September the shows will move to Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park, a space that is expected to hold almost twice the amount of the tents.  Bryant Park has been hosting fashion week since 1993.  I had the pleasure of attending my first show in 2003, when I volunteered as an usher.  Oh how times have changed in the past 7 years, but the excitement of opening the doors into the tents never did. Bryant Park you will be missed!

Ready-To-Bare it ALL: Backstage at Vivienne Tam Spring 2010 Collection

On Saturday, September 12th, Gina Brooke, Artistic Director of Shu Uemura, was kind enough to extend an invitation to go backstage and preview the look for Vivienne Tam’s Spring 2010 runway collection.  Considering this was the last year fashion week would be held at Bryant Park (sniff, sniff), I was anxious to get to the tents.

The inspiration for the show was nature.  Gina Brooks did an exceptional job embodying the theme and creating a clean, natural face with soft pink cheeks and dramatic lashes that appeared like butterfly wings (using the Shu Uemura Farfallina False Eyelashes on both the top and bottom lash line).

“Butterflies were seen everywhere in Vivienne’s collection which was inspired by freedom, life and the 1960’s,” said Brooke. “It was only natural to have these beautiful, wing-like lashes flank the models’ eyes to resemble one of earth’s most gorgeous creatures.”

After my interview, I had a little time to kill until the show started.  Fortunately, I ran into a friend who invited me to the W Hotels VIP Backstage Lounge, sponsored by Veuve Clicquot.  I had me a drink (or two) while mingling with some of fashion’s finest.

Showtime! I filed into the crowd excited for Vivienne Tam’s collection and especially thrilled to see the premiere of her latest collaboration with HP for their digital clutch.  A beauty bloggers dream! So compact and stylish, I want it!  But like Vivienne Tam’s collection, this stunning piece of machinery is not expected to launch until Spring 2010.

A stunning show it was, but see for yourself.  Click HERE for complete image coverage of Vivienne Tam’s Spring 2010 Collection.
