Australia Hotel Review: Gold Coast Sheraton Mirage Resort

The Sheraton Mirage Gold Coast

Well we made it to Australia! Our first stop Brisbane, although we drove right through, heading less then an hour south to the Gold Coast. The reputation of Gold Coast is it’s the Miami of Australia, although I would have to broaden that stereotype to the Florida of Australia (or specifically somewhere between Ft. Lauderdale and Miami) with all the theme parks such as Sea World and high rises everywhere. Originally we planned on spending a day here before heading further south which is known for it’s secluded beaches. However, we were so taken by hotel stay at the Sheraton Mirage Resort we reconsidered. The Sheraton is the best of both worlds. It’s located less than a mile from Surfer’s Paradise where the main shopping area and hotels are but is it’s own secluded paradise. Located right on a clean and private beach, it has a breathtaking sunset and the hotel property is a dream in and of itself. Surrounded in pools and palm trees, it’s clean, and so open and spacious.

Confessions of a Cystic Acne Survivor

{This post is by one of my long time writers, and friend, Teresa Luong on her struggle with cystic acne and road to clear skin}

Best beauty products for cystic acne

Everyone wants that flawless, luminous, glowing skin, but for me it’s more than a desire; it’s an obsession.  Since nature’s cruel joke of puberty, I was cursed with the onset of hereditary cystic acne.  I had what looked like puss-filled boils all over my face, neck and body – and I mean all over.  These painful lumps were the cause of ridicule and childish torture for three years of my life. I would beg my parents to home-school me as to avoid having to face another day of my adolescent peers. Even though they made me go to school everyday, my loving parents spent hundreds of dollars on any product that claimed to help acne, but to no avail.  I found out I was allergic to benzoyl peroxide, the active ingredient in most strong acne medications, including ProActive, and that salicylic acid wasn’t strong enough for my breed of acne.  Finally, one of my many dermatologists came up with a solution, a new drug on the market called Acutane.  Not yet approved by the FDA, this drug claimed to prevent breakouts for up to 10 years.  Acutane is now known for some of its severe side effects, such as:

The thing about having spinal surgery, is once you get through it, you have a new lease on life. As some of you know I was in the hospital less then 2 weeks ago to get a herniated disc removed. And I can’t even begin to tell you how amazing I feel now that it’s done. It was an easy recovery and within three days of doing it I felt so much better then I did the 2 months prior when it was in my body.  And after going through it I am more committed then ever to working out, eating right and taking the best care of my body. Prior the the surgery I went to two sporting events, one with Eddie Bauer, and the other with Brooks Running and this weekend I was ready to put them on and start the recovery process. For starters it was the NYC marathon and watching those amazing warriors run through my neighborhood always gets me amped to move.

And speaking of the marathon, Brooks Running released the first limited edition marathon shoe for this years event. It’s a version of their classic Adrenaline GTS style and has lady liberty graphics on it. You can expect more marathon themed kicks coming soon for big races like Boston and other cities.

Another accessory, I’m super excited about is Eddie Bauer Zen Tote, it has all of these awesome pockets and straps for your yoga matte. While I’m still not allowed to do a lot of yoga poses and get back in the classroom, one of my favorite things is to take my matte to the waterfront and stretch. Their Movement leggings are also AWESOME! They suck everything in and don’t stretch out. I have two pairs and have pretty much lived in them through my recovery. Both of these items are on sale on eddiebauer.com! And for all you fitness buffs, get a sneak peek at their Motion collection for next spring: eddiebauerpr.com/motionguide
